Searching for KSP 0.17

My son would love to install KSP v 0.17. I Googled for it and was led astray by download sites that insisted I subscribe for a fee.

[snip]

Alternatively, if you know of legit download sites, I'd appreciate the link.

Thank you!

Led astray, indeed-- those are illegal pirate websites.

As @Gargamel points out, the early "free" versions of KSP are available for download; see the post he links to for details.

Later KSP versions, however, aren't free, so it's not legally possible for people to share them, or for websites to host them.

I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news.  :(  We know you mean well and are just trying to help your son.

IF you bought (or plan to buy, it works for every published version once you have the license) KSP from Steam, you can download the V0.17 using steam://nav/console (once you install Steam, of course). It's a somewhat convoluted process (search the steamdb for the desired appid/depotid/manifestid; type the long command line; wait for the download to end; copy and paste the path the console prints on the screen when done).

The "hardest" part is to match the manifest date with the one from the wiki so you can infer the version.

Again, you must have a valid license for KSP from Steam, you will not be able to download anything you are not authorized to.

— POST - EDIT —

As stated below by @4x4cheesecake, the oldest KSP version available on Steam is 0.22. I'm sorry for the mistake, I need to properly file and maintain my KSP collection. :/

Hi Lisias, I'm trying to follow you instructions to download 0.17. I successfully opened the consul. My search for KSP in the steamdb returns one version, the lastest. the Wiki doesn't list file names. Any other suggestions/directions? Thank you.

Are you sure this is possible for 0.17? The oldest steamdb entry I can find is from November 13, 2013 which should be equal to KSP 0.22 but I cannot test it right now

I'm terrible sorry, my information above was inaccurate.

If you live in the USA, there're some loopholes on the Copyright Act that would allow you to, legally, own a 0.17 release of KSP - as long you have a legit license. However, Forum rules don't allow talking about such information - it is (the information) shady, to say the least.
