Has anyone watched "The First" on hulu?

Subject says it all, I guess.

I'm not subbed to hulu, and I'd require some good reviews of this to consider it.

This being near-future SF, anything technically wrong will make me want to throw the remote control at the TV, so it would have to be extremely good for me to pay to watch it.

Imho, 8 episodes of typical suburban melodrama, several short flashes of pool training, and several minutes in the very first episode where an SLS-looking rocket is lifting an absolutely empty spaceship with five crewmembers lying on the floor,

Spoiler warning

Spoiler

, then it bursts. (how unexpectedly)

Spoiler warning 2

Spoiler

and that's the only spectacular sci-fi which I have found rewinding the series.

P.S.
Have no idea why a booster flies like a solid one after the explosion (like in Challenger accident), then explodes like a liquid one.

P.P.S.
Also why their LES has failed.

P.P.P.S.
The ship interface totally cosplays the early Dragon presentation, though the ship looks from outside like CST-100, but SLS should probably mean Orion.
Such funny symbiosys.

I was actually looking forward to it, but was severely disappointed.

@kerbiloid got it right when he said "typical suburban melodrama"... life is tough when you a hotshot astronaut, single parent with a troubled teen at home.

Even removing all the melodrama, the space program part of the series is very weak, and suffers from the "star of the show solves all the problems" syndrome, with little sense of the massive teams that would be behind them.

It also feels like a promo by Sean Penn's agent at times... "yeah he's getting on a bit, but he still works out".

I saw the first episode. There were several problems.

-If they have a Mars transfer spacecraft in orbit, why do they need an SLS? Seems like a waste if you’re only trying to get to an LEO rendezvous.

-Why did the LES fail? In a situation like that the crew should have survived.

-The spectators seemed dangerously close to the pad.

In conclusion: Meh.

Why did they call it ‘The First’, implying that it was about the first crewed mission to Mars, when it’s really about the failure of that mission and the politics/melodrama that ensues?

As far as I can see it’s just another drama series, but based around a spacey idea.

Yep.  Just like Nat Geo's Mars and Lost in Space.
