Touchdown confirmed.”- Germund Kerman Video of the landing: https://i.imgur.com/TkHIxij.mp4 This was probably one of the most stressful landings I’ve ever done in this game, but watching mission commander Germund Kerman plant the flag was well worth it. This marks the beginning of my Elcano challenge, in which I will attempt to circumnavigate Tylo. I also gave the crew different colored lights on their suits depending on profession: Red= Pilot, Green = Engineer, Purple = Scientist, and Yellow = Mission Commander. @Keyboard BasherI like the idea of using stack separators to provide clearance for the wheels, smart design choice! Also, here’s a few screenshots of the launch vehicles since you were asking about them: Spoiler Launcher for descent stage SRB separation (Unrelated screenshot) *The rocket kept exploding going N1 mode when I decoupled the first stage because the engine plate shrouds clipped into the second stage’s engines, so I ended up having to remove the shrouds on the engine plates. The third stage had a similar problem but it was less destructive, and only resulted in some orbital debris. Launcher for Odyssey proper Transfer Rendezvous Docked! From here on out, I’m probably going to move the log of this mission to a thread in Mission Reports somewhere, so I don’t take up too much space here, as the full circumnavigation will likely take weeks to complete. Sounds good! I'll follow that thread once you've posted your first update. Once I unlock more of the tech tree I'll be designing a new compact manned rover. I'll be sure to post pictures here of the design as well as the descent vehicle I use for it.
Admiral Fluffy
I am currently testing a new rover, made to circumnavigate the Mun. Can hold 5 Kerbals, and has ISRU. Has quite a bit of lights too. Its power will be provided by RTGs, solar, and fuel cells.

king of nowhere
The elcano mission of @Jack Joseph Kerman inspired me to take one of my own. Again, with a huge rover made mostly for show. I decided to do it on OPM Slate. Slate is tylo-sized, but it has a very varied topography with mountain ranges, valleys, canyons. quite the beautiful planet, but very hard to travel. And this is my rover, the Tamarromobile (roughly translatable as pimpmobile). I gave it 3 different drive cabins, all with good IVA views, to try and keep things varied. the cupola on top is mounted on a rotating servo so it can get 360° views, if i want to better appreciate the landscape. all those crew cabins are angled slightly downward, so that they have a better view of the ground. the 45-ton rover has 36 wheels, which give it a decent power to climb slopes. It can climb up to 15° on slate. Power is supplies by 16 advanced RTG, each one worth 4 regular ones. the extremely large base give it good stability even at high speed. unfortunately, slate is very rough on rovers, the terrain is full of sharp angles that will explode the wheels completely fitting and removing the descent stage was... unconventional. but that cupola prevented a normal sky crane, so I had to use two asymmetric ones. and then they could no longer fly straight up. an inside view when I opened the payload fairing. which, alone, was heavier than the rover. view from the cupola view from the cockpit Edited October 30, 2021 by king of nowhere

Glad I could serve as a source of inspiration for a mission! As far as I’m aware you will be the first person to ever do an elcano on a modded planet, at least according to the challenge’s thread. It appears you’ve at least gone for some functionality over aesthetics, as my rover is 70 tons with only 28 wheels (well technically 27 now, considering one of them died.) I don’t even think the Odyssey is capable of ascending a 10-degree slope on Tylo, although Tylo has slightly higher gravity than Slate, 0.8g vs 0.7g. Definitely a unique design there with the wide frame, and I love the idea of using a rotation servo to give your cupola a 360-degree view! The name of the rover gave me a good chuckle as well. Good luck with your mission! EDIT: What’s the Tamarromobile’s partcount by the way? INPrint
Viking-M-2 science rover exploring Mün Viking-class is currently my main type of uncrewed science rovers for yet another Soviet-themed career. The most noticeable feature of its design is adjustable angle mechanism of two main solar panels, which can be set to any angle between 0 and 60 degrees. This helps not only to provide more sunlight when sun is far from zenith, but also to protect panels from breaking during hard wheel-to-surface collisions. Top speed of this rover class is just above 30 m/s, but recommended cruising speed is 20 m/s. To get rid of excessive maneuverability, which can be dangerous in low-gravity environments, only front pair of wheels are steering. This measure sacrifices a bit of low speed performance and makes any attempt to move backwards very clumsy, to say at least, but travelling within cruising speed margin is mostly safe. Two SAS modules can provide additional steering at low speeds or stabilize rover during jump or freefall. Clearance is enough to travel across most edges but the sharpest ones without scratching the bottom, and chassis is sturdy enough to survive impact with vertical speed less than 25 m/s, though these are not recommended. Full science pack, excluding only materials bay, makes sure that any region exploration with this rover will provide throughout and reliable data. Two joint sockets at the rear may be used for transportation purposes, e.g. by Vikhr' spaceplanes.

Low gravity reduces how much power the motors will apply, reducing top speed.

Zacspace
Hey everybody, I decided to design a new rover instead of driving the one I'm supposed to be circumnavigating Vall with. Anyway Here it is: Spoiler Fully deployed I just noticed the light on it's arm is attached wrong. Good thing I haven't uploaded it yet. It's mission profile is basically the same as the last rover I posted: Refuel stuff and do all the science while fitting in an SSTO payload bay. The main advantage to this one is it fits in a half-size bay so my smaller SSTO can carry it. The disadvantage is those little wheels make it worse at actually roving than its bigger sibling and despite appearances I did have to leave out a couple small features like sas torque and the spinny ore scanner. I think this the first time I've used the munar module pod in a craft, that front access is kinda nice on a rover. 6 hours ago, OJT said: it is painfully slow You can override traction control to get your wheels to run at full power in low gravity. The tradeoff is they have virtually no grip, so you lose control and it takes forever to get up to speed, but you could always try a light override on just your front or back wheels.
