I have configuration as follows

ASUSTeK H81M-K motherboard
CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4460 CPU @ 3.20GHz
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti
VRAM; 2GB
Pixel Shader; 5.0
Vertex Shader; 5.0
RAM: 8 GB
OS: Windows 10

Both your cpu and your gpu are below the specified minimum, as well as the memory.

Just as an FYI, I tested it on ak i7-5790k cpu with a GTX 970 and while it had some issues, it was usable.  My guess is your memory is what's really killing you (lack of, that is)

I doubt my H81M-K motherboard handles any newer CPU
But I could upgrade RAM and GPU
I thought I need a better GPU althrough upgrading just ram would be cheaper that for sure

Listen. I just built a Ryzen 5 5600, RX 6600 (OC) and 16gb DDR4 3200. The game is barely playable on those. Don't waste your money unless you plan on building a High-End PC. Wait for them to optimize it first, so proper PC specs can be guessed.

How long does it usually take developers to optimize their games?

First they have to finish it. Optimization will happen along the way, but it's probably not the priority right now. We are beta-testing an early build.  IF (and that's a big one) they meet their goal of being feature complete at the end of the year, you can expect the game to run better from this point on.

I haven't tried any high-parts-count crafts yet, but the game is running "fine" for me with similar CPU and memory (but a fairly new GPU).

That unfortunately is  a modern trend that is BAD for the game.  TO not care for performance during the development and let everything to the end get get you stuck in a  well  too deep to leave without undoing a lot of content. If your performance issue is due to bad data structures you want to fix it in the start of the development .  A Healthy process  needs constant checkpoints to see if the performance is slipping too fast away from what is desired. You cannot get stuck  in  savign every cycle at  every moment, but You cannot consider a feature released if by adding it you made the  software unusable.

No, but you could try finding used i7 4790, pretty much top of the line of the same generation. Should give you a small boost. But yeah you're severely lacking on memory and GPU.

I wonder if the devs will optimize it for players who would like to buy their game because they would like to try it out, or for sentiment because they were the first original buyers of the first kerbals when no one had heard of Kerbal Space Program yet and when Squad was still developing it, but they are not Croesus or Elon Musk and they cannot afford a computer worth several thousand bucks

I wonder if they will optimize this game for weaker computers like mine.

So far it's heartbreaking but I'll apply for a steam refund :(

You can get second hand office computers with a good cpu very cheap. Get one and a reasonable second hand GPU. Probably not worth trying to upgrade your computer as it is 10 years old

I had it running on a R9 270 2Gb. KSP 2 does not really need fast FPS to be playable. I think if they had put a real minimum spec it would have been helpful. An RTX 2060 is not required to enjoy the game, but there might be cases where it crash due to lack of video ram on some  old GPU

Some of the tutorials crash my system for some reason. Probably lack of video ram.

From the current state of the game you do not miss out anything. Play KSP instead.

Recently my interest in KSP has been revived (to think I only paid 10 bucks for the original game with all the DLC :D ). I wonder if the original KSP will run on my Lenovo B50-70 laptop with the AMD Radeon HD8500M graphics card, which I use at work, I am a security guard, I work 24/72 (24 hour shift and 72 hours off), I have a lot of free time I just need to 2 hours to do a short patrol round :-

There is no commercially available hardware today that provides a fluid experience in KSP 2 right now.  The terrain-rendering efficiency is abysmal, which impacts most of your time in the game.

I'd hold off buying any new hardware until there are some significant optimization passes, and we have a better idea of what the final spec will look like.  The game can't possibly stay in it's current state of performance, so give it some time to settle.

I wonder if they optimize it for weaker machines, anyway I just ordered it from Allegro, it's our Polish equivalent of Ebay :-)
Graphics card: Asus GeForce RTX 2060 Dual Evo 6GB
And G.SKILL DDR3 AEGIS 2x8GB 1600MHz CL11 Gaming I hope it will fit my motherboard ASUSTeK H81M-K :)
