Problem with surface base

Recommended Posts

I made this cool Minmus surface base today, so far the first 2 modules are docked. But here's the problem.

The Resource Refinery module is docked... very... badly... Dont mind the junk all around the base though. I'm not sure if this is the best allignment I got with the docking ports, but yeah this is the problem. I need some help. (Oh and everything above the ore tank is detached right now). I might use the Rotation locked option and then do something else. But what? So far I've tried using RCS to rotate it (with the rotation lock set to no) and tried to rotate it using the small lander thing you can see. Neither worked.

Best option is probably to undock and try redocking. If it doesn't have RCS thrusters, an engineer could add some. Also, it seems the tilted module is resting on the Rockomax Attachment Node thingie, which means it doesn't have a very wide base to rest on.  If you add landing gear on the sides, it might be less likely to almost fall over like that.

Good luck! Surface docking is really hard!

I seem to be inhumanely stupid, the whole reason I couldn't rotate the ground attached docking ports was electricity. Whatever.

+ I redid the mission. It's ok now. However, I ddi use gravity cheats to move the mining drills up a bit.

But now I cant seem to link a strut between a structural part attached to a ground anchor and the station itself. Take a look. (this game is starting to get on my nerves)

(thats while im editing it)

(tahts the result)

I need some serious help. Jeb, Bill and Bob aren't going home until I fix the problem (thats a separate mission)

Since the base and the ground anchor are two separate crafts, you can't put a strut between them. You will need to attach a docking port to the GA and one to the base, them offset [and rotate etc.] one of them so that it docks with the other one.

EDIT: I have tried ground anchors in the past, but they turned out to be incredibly buggy. (see log 22.1)

This is the only thing I have used ground anchors for and they work fine.  They lift the rovers off the ground when not in use to prevent them from exploding.

Genius.  Love the use of the pistons here.  Well done, good sir!
