Throw Away - I had a Dream

That an eccentric billionaire with a rocket company, (take your pick) had the epiphany that investing in children playing with space flight and engineering would pay out like a game stop stock in 10 years time. They purchased KSP2, hired harvester the rocket god as supreme game development wallfacer, and gave him a  blank check, a AAA army,  and 2 years to make the space flight game that changes our destiny in the stars. < Insert dramatic happy tier>

*dream may have been a daydream

Why is the hero in this daydream an eccentric billionaire? The current devs, and by that I mean the actual people, not Take Two, but ordinary clever artists, software engineers, and game designers, working long hours hopefully for decent wages are trying passionately to make good on a promise to players that is in some ways being carried out despite the crushing, short-sighted and unrealistic quarterly return demands of investors. The people trying to suck the money out are not your friends.

HarvesteR has his own game to develop. (Which looks like fun.) Why would he return to KSP?

Why would a billionaire invest in developing a niche game with an AAA number of developers? Not enough return on investment.

I wouldn't even go into the game stop comment.

Definitely dreaming there bud. Just remember to stay positive when you realize you're back in reality after waking.

Nobody could do that even with a blank check and a dream team. A reasonable development schedule for something that requires this much custom coding, a lot of it highly specialized, would be around five years. I mean, you could make a cool space game in two years but not something even close to including the KSP2 roadmap, never mind nice to have additional features!

If I had an unlimited budget and could hire anyone I want for something like this, I’d make it seven years and build a bespoke engine for it. None of the major game engines on the market have been designed with something like this in mind and even if you manage to shoehorn them in, you will get compromises.

couldn't even keep a running social media company running...

Why would I expect them to keep a niche video game running, even if they hired a guy that sold out of the business years ago?

It's <double checking notes> a <checking again> a video game.  Try to have some perspective.1

Edit:
1This goes for a lot or posts, not just this one.

Why would he hire Harvester? But he can probably hire Gabe Newell, Todd Howard and Kojima, and they'll make a space simulator that will make us all go crazy with happiness. It will never pay off, but you can dream up. The main thing is that he does not hire former employees of Amazon and Uber Intertainment

I'm in, the story would be more confusing that Space Odyssey.

This will be Elder Stranding Valentina or something with great plot. A minimum of 50 million copies will be sold just because of the names of the authors.
