What did you do in KSP1 today?

A pair of the new Mk3 Engine Mounts back to back make an interesting docking port junction that conceals the ports and keeps the lines of the Mk3 fuselage decently well...  A jumbo battery behind one of the ports spaces them out just right.

I added more to my space station.  I also crashed the game for the fourth time today...

The next step is to make a universal crew exchange and resupply ship.  I'm not going the spaceplane route.

I am so proud of this I can't think straight... lol.  After days of work, I've finished the first part of my asteroid space station.  I will continue to build on it, but the first contract to build a new station is complete.  So if I may, I would like to present:

I've gone over to the dark side - and started work on a shuttle. Completed a fuselage I'm fairly happy with but have yet to sort out a wing planform.

I'm going for an ambitious plan too. A vehicle that can liftoff from Kerbin with an orange tank as payload, travel to Laythe, land that payload on Laythe, then fly spaceplane-style into Laythe orbit (empty of payload), refuel, and return to Kerbin.

Today, I spent 2 hours aerobraking a terribad reentry from the mun. 32 orbits. I'm done for tonight. Oh, and also Bill got out to push, but he decided to do so while he was still within the atmosphere. Luckily he survived, but he was glowing a little afterwards.

Today I burned to match one side of Moho's Orbit, then slowed down to get a good encounter... Success !   I ran out of MonoPropellant in the last third of the burn the Verners continued to keep me on target (I have some kind of a torque issue it seems, but nothing my craft cannot handle).   I now have a 4 hours encounter window with Moho, more than enough to perform my capture burn, and about 5k delta-V left... not too shabby.  Really cannot wait for unity 1.1 tho, this craft is only 430 parts and it took 40 minutes to perform a 14min burn...   I took this screenshot but not directly into the glare of the sun otherwise everything becomes lost in it's glare.  So far the Radiators are keeping things cool, even when the Nukes where pushing 66% thrust...  Very close to Moho, and what a ride it was !

so, I did some aerodynamics testing last night. found out that stock ksp needs interstage fairings and I meanwhile need ProcFairings. (or am I missing a trick here?)

btw why can't I put struts on fairing bases? and why do I feel better to ditch the fairings pretty early in atmo, than risking a salto ascendale? and then CONFETTI !!!!  stock fairings are so broken...

Are there any good primers/tutorials on how to build a good hull (in the post 1.0.5 world)?  My first few attempts at boatbuilding were a bit more entertaining than actually successful...

Launched the Horus XLN-2/Duna Exploration Complex on its shakedown cruise to a nearby Class E asteroid.  Despite the KAS extra strutting added in an EVA, still had a few problems with flexing at initial boost, but it settled down when I reduced the thrust.  Excelsior!

I got the same on mobile, I think it's images loading: page gets "longer" and so text goes down and you feel like going up. It eventually stops at some point, but I agree this is a little annoying on image-heavy thread such as this one.

I'm not much help there, this is my first real foray into boat building and it chases aesthetics rather than functionality (boat as shown capsizes immediately and even with sizable propulsion only does 13m/s or so).

You can do interstages in stock, just place the fairing base below a narrower part and build it upwards, and it will usually connect and close with a wider part above. It is sometimes fiddly though.

Yes, stock fairings are very broken, as are procedural fairings and KW Rocketry fairings. The body lift vector is WAY off. But ... they can be fixed with Claws Stock Bug Fix Modules. Among many other issues it fixes the drag and body lift bugs AND lets you choose between clamshell and confetti fairings.

Pretty sure the clamshell/confetti switch is a separate mod. StockPlus just allows selection of the number of petals.
