Work-in-Progress [WIP] Design Thread

I haven't been posting much recently but I've still been playing KSP! Here's some stuff I made.

Ariane 5 - I made an old one almost a year ago that wasn't very good. I've updated it with better boosters, new engine, new ATV, interstage, and a better nosecone

60 metric ton Lifter - Note: full credit to Kurotenshi for the fairings and inspiration for the ullage motors comes from GusTurbo's Saturbo V. I suck at making them so I just stole borrowed his. This one takes inspiration from the Proton rocket in its first stage setup, but lifts much more payload and only uses four engines instead of six

Edit: so yeah, I accidentally overwrite the 60t lifter... quite angry about that. Will have to rebuild now, shouldn't be to bad but it's still frustrating.

This is a really great looking lifter! Glad to see you got some use out of my ullage/vernor clusters, which look like a nice addition to your craft. Sad that you lost the craft though, I've had that happen before and it's frustrating.

And another work in progress heavy SSTO...

I am beginning to like putting cargobays sideways - and attempting wo build some plane around it. This time in a different way as here.

Only the middle column of tanks actually has fuel, it needs a lot more tweaking - but it got 2 full orange tanks to orbit. And that with 100 tons less plane as previously, so I am getting there. "only" 2 radial intakes per jet.

It could barely reach orbit and it ran out of fuel. So I enabled infinite fuel cheat to attempt a landing. Well, see for yourself, I need practice with that :)

Thanks Gus, means a lot from a builder like you. :) Also, thanks to you and Rune for the rep, that was very kind.

I already rebuilt it, no worries. Wasn't too bat, the design itself is actually quite simple and only took five minutes to rebuild. The hardest part was finding out how to approach making the lifter. Building heavy lifters is pretty easy, but I find it difficult to meet my criteria, which is to make a smooth, easy on the eyes craft and one that looks reasonably realistic, too. I plan to build a rocket family, probably from about 5 to 200 metric tons. Those heavier ones are going to be challenging so I hope to make it work. Also, the fairings in 1.0 will be really nice to have for lifters, and that applies to every builder out there.

The model in the video is still a prototype the final aesthetics and handling will change

New "Racing" version (lower weight and part count, stronger frame)

try the other ladder. Also, the lander is missing the dish on top.

otherwise, good job!

You'll get rep when it's finished

An SSTO I'm working on. Only needs a few minor tweaks!

The cost for each flight is 6,000 funds (fuel), not including the cost of the payload. If flown to orbit properly it should have enough fuel to land on laythe and return (though I'm not 100% sure yet).

WIP - 1201 parts of soviet engineering :P (the rocket itself is 678 parts :P the rest is the launch pad)

oZMDoklh.png

it uses the same R-7 booster as the sputnik rocket i released here :

http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/109961-0-90-Sputnik-8K71PS

though - obviously, i added an upperstage + a vostok as a payload :P (not counting the retractable elevator platform :P)

and yes - the ejector seat does work (hatch ejection + seat ejection at the same time) :) (even while the rocket's engines are still firing :P)

Hey thanks for that :D

Was trying to make them SSTO but it hasn't really worked out that way.

Dude, swap out the nukes for turbojets and then add some of the tiny rocket motors and it may have a chance of SSTOing. They are definitely worth the effort as these are really lovely craft.

Preparations of the Avalon for 1.0 turned into a complete rebuild.

Smaller, lighter, faster. It has slightly more storage space, less parts, and a higher fuel capacity compared to its predecessor at no cost to any other feature.
