You favorite tv series

There is a bit of a fanboy problem with Rick and Morty - "Ooh, I laughed at a joke that wasnt about boob-farts, I am now more intelligent than people who watch...the simpsons <spits>"

But I do think it is one of the best programs ever created, of any genre.

I don't watch TV anymore.

Teletubbies was the best tho.

I knew a guy, old friend from high school, don't see him anywhere near as much as I would like to anymore. He was an electrical engineer at Hughes, worked on all sorts of neat stuff. He told me that his entire department ground to a halt every day so they could crowd into the break room and watch Teletubbies.

can't find a favorite, but the first one that come to mind right now at gmt=now:

really enjoyed "lost" back in the days, but the kinda jesus/god/heaven/hell copy pasta slighty script rushed few last(s) episode(s), but well it was prolly not an easy task to write a ending for a serie like that

(that old matrix 3, masse effect 3, etc. and etc. "meeeeh wut that ending" kind of complaint, the best a whole story is the harder it is to find a proper ending and keep thing open minded with many path instead of closing it with an old leitmotiv rough caricature)

I really enjoyed Lost, the last season didn't bug me at all. I guess I just got used to the idea that it was a spiritual/metaphysical/fantasy show more than science fiction early on and just flowed with it. I actually cried like a little girl through the end of the last episode for the simple reason that Jack's father's casket was the exact same casket we buried my father in.

Have to agree with the overall sentiments of this post^^^  IIRC, B5 was one of the first TV shows to have an overarching storyline that spanned seasons, as opposed to the former serial aspect of "one new adventure per week".  There was still a little bit of that, but it added an occasional nice diversion, since even the "one-off" episodes were pretty good.

Haven't watched much TV over the past 10 years or so.  IMO, there's not much worth watching.  Sitcoms bore me, and most adventure/drama/other series are just the same thing from the days of Magnum, P.I., Emergency, and so on.

Right now, the only "TV" I watch is The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, the occasional anime, and DVD's of B5, BSG, and Firefly.  Most of my free time is spent doing other stuff, like gaming, 3D modeling, and reading (mostly dead tree books, but the occasional e-book as well).

Yeah, haven't watched a whole lot of network TV in years. We still catch The Amazing Race when it airs. We're watching The Vietnam War on PBS right now, although my wife finds it much more interesting than I do, I already know all this history. The first few seasons of Sherlock were excellent, the last was disappointing. On streaming we watched both seasons of The Man in the High Castle and can't wait for the next. Everyone keeps telling me that I have to watch Stranger Things, but my wife doesn't like horror films so she refuses. Same problem with Walking Dead, although I watched the first couple episodes of that on my own and it really didn't grab me. We watched the first couple of seasons of House of Cards, and they were interesting, but then the writers started getting lazy, which I just can't stand. Still haven't seen a single episode of Game of Thrones, probably never will.

Spoilers for anyone who has been living under a rock for ten years and hasn't seen the new Battlestar Galactica. (Hint: Go watch it.)

Spoiler

I really liked the Battlestar Galactica remake, up until the last couple of episodes. The big schtick of the show was that they were taking the concept of the original show and bringing it into post-9/11 reality. Nobody gets along, everyone has their own agendas, there's politics and intrigue. It was gritty and down-to-earth. And then they get to the last episodes and say, "Hey, everybody, let's give up all of our technology and live as hunter-gatherers on this primitive, god-forsaken world!" And everyone in the entire fleet unanimously says, "Okay!" WHAT!? Two days ago these people couldn't agree on which end of the pencil to sharpen! They completely lost me there. Other than that, it was great.

Regarding Game of Thrones, go read the novels, they are much better.

As for the last episode of Battlestar Galactica remake, I couldn't agree more, even though I'd extend it a bit to several of the late last season episodes, specifically the stuff going on with Starbuck. That mess just didn't make sense.

Spoiler

Also, I somewhat resent the authors to even hint at ancient aliens. Somehow I can't shake off the feeling of Erich von Daniken's presence whenever I discuss it. Big thumbs down for the series finale, which is a shame, since I like the rest of the show.

Edit:

Almost forgot to chip in with my pick for the series.

yup yup, another little thing about lost

kinda a "no exit" ((huis clos ≈)) in a crash plane context, highly caracter psychological and survival in an unknow dangerous situation relationship oriented, past story of each caracter bein introduced slowly and lately amongst episode to balance wich each caracter way of doing stuff and interacting with others once on the island (this was perticularly fresh in a serie at this time same as the sequenced story board, kinda like 24hour wich i personnally never watched but anyway the sequencing is interesting in this one as well)

and yup and same, the ending doesn't bug me at all as well, but it leave a small "easy" stereotype taste, prolly what cause many people complaint about that kind of ending recursivly with various movies, series, book else

to contrast and give an concrete exemple, i use to prefer ending like in this book: https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/L'Ultime_Secret ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bernard_Werber#The_.22Explorers_of_science.22_cycle )
i wish i could say more, but i don't want to spoil the said book ^^

Spoiler

pssst pssst @Just Jim & @NSEP you fellow writer m8, this one might interest you and give you some ideas ^^

It's worth mentioning that there was a writer's strike that almost certainly impacted the direction of the final season.

I had to really think about this one... I just turned 55, and I have a lot of favorites...

But if I had to pick one... hmmmm.

OK, growing up there was one show... not Star Trek... that I just couldn't get enough of... It was so much better written and produced than the usual weekly garbage... and really made you feel like you were at the movies, week after week....

And it had one of my first real Hollywood crushes...the incomparable Barbara Bain...

If I had one overall favorite show growing up... it was, without a doubt, the original Mission Impossible:

I was actually just thinking about MI on the way home from work last night. I was thinking about running table-top RPG campaigns for my kids, and I asked myself, "If I were to run something for them besides the classic high-fantasy or space opera setting, what would I run?" The first thing that came to mind was a total action-movie-style spy campaign. But not James Bond, Lone-Ranger style, obviously, it would have to be ensemble-style like Mission: Impossible.

i like it especially because it doesn't diabolize the german, it show the conflict as it is, as biped in a camp or the others back in the days, and i tend to hate/can't stand/gettin bored quickly with little fcker that fart higher than they should pew pewing in this or that town district nowdays and this scale of event so , it's almost a must to see while in school production to me

@Just Jim, may I offer you a bit of advice? Keep Mission: Impossible in your locker of fond memories and don't watch it again. I also used to like it but caught some eps recently on oldies channels, and the scams the goodguys pulled made no sense

Yeah, but the more I watch the old classics, the more I find I have to give most all of them a lot of leeway... no big deal...

Doctor Who, but the Matt Smith ones. The others are great, but Matt was my favorite.

For me, its a tossup between Tennant and Smith (leaning a bit more Tennant). Capaldi has also been pretty good.

Also really like Sherlock. But Season 4 was terrible.
