DARPA is using drones loaded with what appears to be the high tech equivalent of Silly String to foul the rotors of enemy drones. Here. Might help put an end to all those drones which have been flying (unauthorized) over nuclear power facilities here in the US.

What is the distance you would need to land away from the base and other landers to avoid causing damage? For the purposes of this question, in a regular LM.

As others pointed out, nowhere in Earth’s SOI is safe from plume-accelerated regolith. Berms would be required to contain the ejecta from a conventional LM/Blue Moon-style lander.

Starship sidesteps this issue with canted thrusters above the main tanks, giving the plume room to expand and its pressure to drop to safer levels before hitting the ‘lith.

Uh huh. Looks like the rocket shape upright is the only IRL practical one.

Sadly saucer ships, despite looking awesome, are so close to the ground that they are moon ejecta monsters waiting for their moment.

Saucers do not use any form of propulsion that would cause dramatic ejecta.

Sheesh - it's like you are completely unaware of the entire field of Science Fiction or something.

A US Representative today asked an expert testifying in committee, "Is there anything that the National Forest Service or BLM can do to change the course of the moon’s orbit or the Earth’s orbit around the sun? Obviously that would have profound effects on our climate.”

For those not from the US, in this context "BLM" is the Bureau of Land Management.

I was speaking of IRL rocket powered saucers....not the cheaty scifi kind.

At first I thought you meant Black Lives Matter....and I had to suppress laughter.

But for what it's worth both BLM's are equally powerless here unless one of their member's is wearing a red cape.

What you're asking COULD in theory be done with a lot of time and cataclysmic  level technology....but all of which would take a lot longer than any current popular human organization will likely exist.

A better question is....what would you say in response if you were the expert?

Remember forum rules in your response.

I would say:

"Do you listen to coast 2 coast AM on the radio much? Does illuminati or ancient aliens mean anything to you? Because if so, this is the wrong forum for you. Next question please!"

Was the answer that was eventually given any form of "Are you dim or halfwit?"?

This is on par with that one gov oficial talking about islands tipping over due to increase in population, or something.

The person responding played it well

"I'm not going to call you an idiot in this public meeting, instead when I have thought of a polite way to explain it I will email the explanation to you"

Both the other two landers who competed with moonship and the Apollo lunar lander had engines placed low.  Granted national team and Apollo used the landing stage as an launch platform getting up.  Problem with starship is that its so heavy and using powerful engines.
