  1. Index to the chapters (open spoiler to view): Index to supplemental entries/backstory information (open spoiler to view): Jool 14, Y003 I've almost earned my wings..." Chapter 1 Well, I wasn't the first, the second, or even the eleventh selected for the new space program. No, I was twenty-third! Today I finally completed my flight simulator training, and only one requirement remains before I will earn my flight wings. The exercise was vigorous, but Gene kept insisting that before we got to fly real aircraft, we had to be able to handle any situation that came up. He then told us that it was because of the first four Kerbalauts, Jebediah, Bob, Bill, and Valentina, that the new rules were put in effect. Apparently, out of the first four, only one didn't crash his Knat - and that was Bob. Not wanting to encourage us to copy their behavior, Gene gave us only the highlights. From what Gene did tell us, the object of the flight is to get the feel for how a real craft handles and not to try to buzz the tower, fly at Mach 2 through the mountains west of the KSC, or even fly through the abandoned hangars on the old island station. He refused to answer any questions on who flew their craft through the hangar. What a thrill that would have been! Earlier today, Jebediah was a guest speaker at our training assembly. He told us that there was no greater feeling than the vibration of a craft transitioning from the atmosphere into the void of space. He told us a few stories and shared a few images of what Kerbin looks like from space. He talked about looking forward to his next few missions where he will be testing a new reusable launch vehicle - which he said would eventually make spaceflight into LKO routine. It's an interesting thought about LKO becoming that easy to achieve. We also watched the telemetry and video feeds from the second Munar expedition. Although the crew did achieve stable Munar equatorial orbit about three hours ago, Gene could be heard telling Matt, Rake, and Aldas that they would not begin the descent to the surface of the Mun for an entire day. Again, Jebediah's name came up as Gene said they didn't want to repeat the mistakes of the first Munar mission. Jebediah accidentally deployed the CM parachutes instead of separating the lander from the CM. I remember that well; we all remember the broadcasted reports of a rescue mission being launched so that the crew could transfer into another capsule for reentry. There's a standing joke at the Kerbalnaut training center that if there's no really good explanation of how something was broken, Jeb had something to do with it! Podget, my roommate from the first of the course, was selected to serve as an engineer. When the assignments came out, he had hoped to continue the Kerbalnaut training, but instead, is serving as one of three engineers aboard the URKN Eeloo, a patrol craft sent out to explore the northern oceans. He left aboard her two weeks ago; today I received a video-card from him telling me of his new assignment. He was told in his briefing, as we were in the pilot's program, that all we belong to the United Republic of Kerbin Defense Forces. We still have no idea why the Council insists on having a defense force since we know we are the only sentient life form on the planet - unless you count that pink wiggly stuff they tend to serve us in the KSC mess. Tomorrow is the first day of my actual aircraft training. No more simulators for a while! I had hoped to be one of the first Kerbalnauts in space, but that didn't happen. Although I had put my application in as soon as the Committee of Aeronautics and Space Flight announced the beginning of the Kerbaled spaceflight program, I was selected at the end of the second year. Now, three months into the third year since the emerging, I am now getting my chance. I won't lie; I was excited when my name was on the pilot's list. I would hate to know that I had to hitch a ride into space as an engineer or scientist. Return to the OP (Index) Next Chapter
  2. Kerman Colonies Lore(-ish) Since the KSP2 early access release date was announced, I realised how little of KSP I've actually explored. I thought "what would be an actually fun way to finally explore the whole solar system before KSP2 releases?" hence Kerman Colonies. My goal is pretty simple; see how much of the Kerbal solar system (including Outer Planets) I can colonise before I get KSP2, my plans are ambitious but I doubt that I'll get half of them done in the time anyways lol. But anyways, might as well crack on with it before March comes around! Launch No. 1 - Kerbin Logistics Outpost (KLOP) Core Module Kerbin Logistics Outpost will pretty much be a home base for most of my craft and missions, comprising of living space, and refuelling facilities. However, to launch it, my funny little kerbals needed a bit more launch capability than they already had. Hence, I present: Prost, Kerbalkind's largest and most capable rocket to date, and also fully reusable! "Liftoff of Prost, carrying the core of the KC's newest station to orbit!" The booster performs fine through ascent, hauling the upper stage skyward to finish the rest of the journey. MECO, and the upper stage separates while the booster prepares to come back down to Kerbin. The vessel completes a good orbit, meanwhile all focus is on the booster and it's first ever landing attempt. "Entry burn start-up." However, not everything goes so well with the landing. Telemetry is lost on touchdown, and the booster is destroyed. Not long after, the Prost upper stage deploys the station core, and prepares for re-entry. De-orbit done, it prepares for a hopefully smooth landing. And thankfully, this landing goes off without a hitch. The mission is deemed a success, with the loss of the booster being the biggest let-down of the mission, but luckily it wasn't mission-critical. Back at the KSC, they already start preparing for another launch, this time a separate service and station-keeping module to support the station during station construction
  3. The Adventures Of JSA II is a continuation of the Adventures Of The JSA, which was created back in 2019 and had a total of 11 parts before ending due to problems. In this multi-part series, the Johnster Space Agency continues in a new career save in KSP 1.10, with missions being told in a mission report/story telling style (like how it was done in the original, although with improvements). I'm hoping for JSA get a lot further this time with more being accomplished (such as exploring comets or sending crewed missions to Duna), but if the worst happens and this series also gets problems, I'll try my best to continue it in JSA III (but hopefully I won't have to do that). 4. An episodic account of the next great step. Index: I’m using obscene amounts of mods (my sig has the current number), but only a few should significantly alter how this Sandbox save and these missions play out: Engine Ignitor EVA Fuel FAR Improved Ablator (seriously nerfs heatshields) JNSQ Kerbal Construction Time Kiwi Tech Tree (part upgrades) Kerbalism on hard with my own profile KIS/KAS KoS KRASH Mandatory RCS Rational Resources RealChute Several home-made patches to nerf stuff that's too powerful/not the way I want it to be About a billion parts mods I’ve set a completely artificial deadline of Year 10, Day 0 for a Duna landing, the KCT settings so it takes 15 days to build a rocket, and will do things to the save as if there was political pressure from Kongress, like grounding kerballed flights for years at a time if something goes wrong and a crewmember is lost. That’s enough talking, have the actual introduction:
  5. Heracles Space Program Hey y'all! i need some motivation, so i made this post to help detail my new save instead of dong whatever, this program is intended to be the first duna landing in JNSQ, but first we'll start with the Mun, with a station and a long term stay, then we can move onto phase 2: exploration of duna and the outer system Question should i use some life support mods? I have some experience with kerbalisim, but i kind of want to try out snacks! which do you prefer?
  6. Hullo again forumgoers! This is sort of a revamp of my mission report thread, but instead of comments from me on the missions, it'll be set completely in-universe. So not really a story, but these reports are all supposed to be from the records department of the KSC, or something. We'll start with a bit of an explanation of my KSP headcanon...I hope to get a sort of abridged 'what I did in KSP this week' report out on this thread every week or so, but I doubt I'll be able to keep to that schedule List of reports below: And now, let's begin!
  7. The Adventures Of JSA II (The Successor To The Adventures Of The JSA) Is Currently Being Worked On! View It Here: https://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/index.php?/topic/195832-the-adventures-of-jsa-ii-the-return-prologue/ The Adventures of the JSA is a multi-part series about the more interesting and cool missions in a mission report/story telling style (with occasional dialog) of my modded career, called Johnster Space Agency (AKA JSA). From unlocking new and futuristic technology like Solar Sails and even FTL Drives to exploring new and unique planets and moons, I hope you will enjoy: The Adventures of the Johnster Space Agency. 8. Hello KSP Forumers! Until now, I've been posting very inadequate mission updates on the WDYDIKSPT thread, with no screenshots and a few pathetic lines of text. So I've decided to make this thread and post mission reports here. Note: this is a sandbox save. So don't look at my huge inefficient rockets and say 'That's so expensive! You must have spent so many funds!' because money's no object in my Kerbal universe. Note 2: My mods are in a spoiler below, so if you ask I'll refer you back to the OP. Note 3: This isn't the start of this savegame. I've already landed on the Mun and Minmus, just I didn't have the idea to start this thread when I did those missions. Well, here are my mods, in the spoiler: Well, on with the first part! The first thing I'll be doing in this mission report will be building a space station. Enjoy! Below, I've indexed the various parts so you don't have to go hunting through the thread for them.
  9. I got these awesome views of kerbin from the mun!
  10. Hello! Welcome To The First What I've Done So Far in Career Mode, where I share with you what ive done so far in my new career mode! If you haven't looked at the previous 2 posts I made about the career mode, I suggest you read those posts first before reading this one, so you will know what has previously happened. Post 1: Post 2: Ok, so now that you have read those 2 previous posts or have already read them, lets get started! So, starting this off, the first thing I did after completing the minmus flyby, was doing a mission to orbit it (for some more science), as seen in the pictures below! The orbit I was in was roughly 18,000 m by 20,500 m so I could get more low science data and do EVA reports as I flew over different biomes I also got this awesome image of kerbin and the mun rising over minmus from orbit. After doing a few orbits and collecting lots of science, I did a burn to leave minmus and head back for a landing on kerbin. (Notice the mun orbiting around kerbin in the background as it changes position.) After reentering kerbin's atmosphere, I landed this time (not splashed down) near some mountains and planted my first flag, as seen below: After collecting lots of science from the minmus orbiter mission and spending it on better parts in the tech tree, since I have the historical progression contract pack installed, I decided to recreate the Soviet Luna 1 mission next, which was the first spacecraft to flyby the moon. (More about it at: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luna_1) After a successful launch and burn into orbit, I did another burn to put the spacecraft on a munar flyby trajectory to put it into a solar orbit (like the real life mission). After entering the mun's SOI, I took a screenshot with kerbin setting in the background in 2nd/3rd image (you can call it kerbinset, since its the opposite of earthrise). So after ejecting the other stage from the spacecraft it changed the periapsis to just about 4,800m (which is dangerously close). Luckily the spacecraft survived the close approach to the surface and I got a good view of some rocks on the surface and later a kerbinrise (similar to earthrise). After that the mission was complete and I got the contract complete screen (as you can see below it shows what the acutal mission did, pretty similar to mine, but not as close) And so that brings an end to the first of many to come What I've done so far in career mode posts! I can't wait to share what I've done next tomorrow!
  11. Playing my previous save last night (see Here) I noticed, after unlocking some of the higher performance aircraft parts, that my Kerbal weren't suffering any ill effects from the high G loads my erratic flight generated. In my haste to start a new game after downloading the Enhanced Edition, I hadn't gone into the advanced settings to turn on the options I usually use. So, time for a new game! Yey! A productive morning has seen me launch high altitude sounding rockets (well, not exactly as Jeb was strapped, kicking and screaming into the capsule - thought he was Badas$=true!) then into orbit followed by Mun and Minmus Fly-bys. The only problem I'm having so far with the console version is that I have to wait until the rest of the household retires for the night before I can play again! I plan to make a very simple runaround vechile to hoover up the science points available at the different buildings of the Space Centre, which will give me the last tech tree node I need for a fully fledged landing mission. After visiting each of the biomes on the Mun and Minmus, I plan to set up an orbital laboratory complete with separate landing craft to re-visit each biome and take the reduced science point totals back to the lab for processing. Once the tech tree is all unlocked, it will be off to Duna. I've landed robotic craft there (no need to worry about getting back home) before on the PC, but have never sent a crew. I'll keep adding to this thread to keep a record of the Programs achievements and failures, but please feel free to leave any comments.

  13. Hi awesome KSP community! Earlier this year I had some time on my hands and I made a number of KSP gameplay videos, a series called SquashWarp! chronicling my playthrough of 1.2 with a bunch of mods. I don't have great hardware for the purpose, but I had a lot of fun making it before I got busy with other things. I recently realized that I never shared it on the forums, probably because I was afraid of criticism or something. I imagine I'm not the only player who sees the kind of amazing stuff some people can do with this game and ends up feeling kind of insignificant. But no longer! There are eleven episodes up, and I have a few more edited but not published that I will get up soon. As for if the series continues, I am not opposed to the idea, just not sure if there is an interest so I'll see how that goes and what people think! The full playlist is linked here! Now, because I feel like posting a link to a whole video series isn't really in the spirit of 'Mission Report', here is one such report about events taking place in episode 5 (at which point I had figured out how to get my audio in better shape). Elsted Kerman's Fancy Flight -- My first one-take orbit to runway landing in Kerbal Space Program: The goal: test a dyna-soar style mission with the Mk1 cocpit. The point is to test out the dynamics of returning from orbit in a flying vehicle, determine that mods and heating settings are correct, and pave the way for larger more useful space-planes in the future. Development: The project began with a test vehicle to determine flight characteristics of a small plane with stubby wings. But I think I may have been using an old install of the B9 wing parts, so Elsted began an uncontrolled dive, and had to jump out. (Thanks EVA chutes!) When Elsted had dried off, we built him a new plane and launched it with a solid booster to attempt an un-powered landing test. We were happy to find that it was easy to control and had a nice low landing-speed. Mission: With everything that had been learned, Elsted and the other Kerbals were ready for a full mission. They stuck that plane with a few modifications on top of a giant booster and staged! After the boosters are ditched, the small on-board tank is supplemented by two drop-tanks on the wingtips. Orbit achieved! Next Elsted deployed the payload... And then it was time for a return. Now here's the part I hadn't done before (without reloads). We made a rough guess on the descent profile, and then performed a retrograde burn. Elsted hit the atmosphere at the same time as sunrise. Reentry got a little hot.... But once the flames cleared Elsted was in just the right place for an approach. He was still moving pretty fast, and had to do a complete turn west of the space center to bleed off speed... But then came down for a well-aligned landing and popped his drogue chutes! Mission accomplished! Happy space-travels!
  14. About two years into my SCIENCE! mode save, I've come to take a different approach to things. Over my (nearly) three years of playing KSP I have killed many little green men learned so much about different things to exploit in the Kerbol system. Now, with this being my fourth science mod save, it is time to finally spread out Kerbal presence to other celestial objects - aka COLONIZATION The Asteria initiative will result in the construction of Kerbal settlements across multiple celestial bodies. Bases will be put on specific moons and planets to exploit resources and SCIENCE to build a interplanetary empire full of little green men. With those will be stations to act as "space-based bases" for the storage of gathered materials from a celestial body. A network of space-faring cargo vessels will transport these from planet to planet, with all science being delivered at Kupole Station in Low Kerbin Orbit. It's an exciting initiative - the kind that has Jeb staying up all night and literally flying off the walls. But is it fesable? Yes, it is....I'm pretty sure. CURRENT PROGRESS: KUPOLE STATION: Space station in Low Kerbin Orbit; used as a refueling and science hub. RHEA BASE: Mining facility on the Mun. Operations will begin soon. RHEA HOVERCRAFT [Being Tested]: A special dropship/hovercraft used for transporting fuel and ore from Rhea Base. Very explody as of now. ZEMYNA STATION [In Progress]: Space station for the collection of fuel from Rhea Base and to refuel outgoing vessels. MINTHE THREE [Partially complete]: State-of-the art space station, lander, and base combination craft. Will be used for science and recreation on Minmus. CURRENT PLAN: The current plan is to make Rhea base a fully operational mining facility. As a result, I will be able to create large motherships for manned interplanetary exploration with ease. Instead of making overkill rockets to shoot them towards their destinations, I can simply put them in Kerbin orbit, refuel, and then leave. Much more memory efficient (giant rockets = laaag). The next stop after the Mun and Minmus is Duna. But until then, I have Hera I and Styx heading to Jool and Eeloo, respectively. I will also need to send unmanned orbiters to Duna for science gathering and finding nice areas to do some first Kerbal landings. PARTS: Part 0.5: Prologue...of sorts
  15. Hi after posting a lot in "What did yo do in KSP today?'' thread,i had a feeling of my own thread telling about my progress. Though i won't post now because it is not the time. (not so many users are active) But i will share my flags and new craft. Precious Gem company flag- Phoenix Aerospace Company (planes and rovers) And the latest and the most fast plane for now - Karambola-4
  16. After reading several mission reports around here, I was inspired to do something similar. And then I stopped playing for awhile...and then picked it up again. Now I researched all the items in a Science game, and was wondering "what next?" So this! But with this we need something to actually DO...which I also had ideas for. With all parts unlocked, it was time to look to really getting out to the various planets (I've been mostly around the Kerbin/Mun/Minmus, with two craft to Dura). How to do that led me to another goal - I've wanted to build a mildly ridiculous space station, that will serve for the construction, fueling and manning of space craft beyond Kerbin's SOI. So the reports shall start there, with the construction of the Kerbin Space Station. each part will loosely planned ahead of time, then built, then launched. success or failures recorded here, in a (hopefully) humorous and very 'kerbal' tone and style. I am using all stock parts (for the moment) + mechJeb (I like building things, and I seem utterly incapable of docking - so this is needed). I'm writing this for me, but if anyone else gets a kick out of it, awesome! If anyone cares about my take on kerbal origins/background/headcanon it is here: Starting Status: One polar orbit station orbiting Kerbin, polar stations orbiting Mun and Minmus. Rover bases on Mun an Minmus. Prior Mun and Minmus landings in the process of being recovered (20 kerbals picked up from Mun on the very poorly designed Kerbin System Transport 1). Mun station converted to automated/remote controlled platform. A few Kerbol orbit craft (only one or two have kerbals that need rescued). One Polar Orbit station over Dura. Goals: Recover ALL Kerbals and maybe even other robotic craft that have been tossed about throughout the Science campaign Design and build a KSS, with purpose built modules, in stages, in KSO above the Kerbin Space Center, capable of 50+ kerbals Command and control module Science and utility module (I don't need more science, but its wrong to have a station without it!) Connecting spine/additional habitat Fuel depot (mass storage for LF/LOX, more LF (nukes and space planes), monopropellant, xenon, and later ore) Port/Space Wharf (places to dock various sized craft) Shipyards (construction of larger craft to head to cool places) Refinery (much later) Build big ships to go cool places!
  17. To the mun with bill "Alpha.. I see the surface" "Copy that Phoenix, wait for the signal " "Now, Phoenix start your thruster to lower your vertical speed!' "On It!" A couple of seconds later "Phoenix, stop the thrusters and wait until you touchdown the surface, Over" "Copy that Alpha" After a hell of waiting Jeb felt the vessel touchdown and said one of his historic words "Alpha.... The phoenix Has Landed" The MCR erupted in cheers and cries as they heard Jeb's Words but quickly return as they need to monitor their screens and look for signals that represents danger "Okay Jeb.. We need you to do an EVA and look for any damages to the vessel " "On it Alpha" As Jeb goes out of the lander.. He looked to the sky and felt small. He went down the ladder and before touching the ground looked for any damages to the vessel. "Alpha, there's no sign of any damage to the vessel" "Copy, Jeb.... Wernher wants you to feel the surface... For Science, Of course" "Copy, Alpha... The Ground is very dusty... Like sand in a beach or ash in a volcanic eruption" "Copy Jeb.... Ok, your the first kerbonaut on the Mun... do you want to say anything?" "I do Alpha..... This is one small for-" The radio static but fix immediately "-Kerbals, One giant leap. For Kerbalkind As he said it, Kerbals watching the landing, erupted in cheers! The geeks saying that the mun landing was fake!! And the Kussians admitting there defeat in the space race!
  18. Commander's log day 1: Well, I don't know how to write in a journal. I guess I'll introduce myself. I am Jedediah Kerman, the commander for the amphibious Kerbin circumnavigator the "Elcano IV." It is a hybrid vehicle that is capable of long distance travel across Kerbin. Our ship is a beauty. It has a crew of 6, a movie theater, a kitchen, ore drills and converter, cozy accommodations, and plenty of snacks. I am proud to call this ship my home for sometime. Elcano, here we come.
  19. "We cannot stand for this outrage," The leader of the National States of Kerbin said as he stood at the table with his cabinet members. "The naval ship 'Kerbal' was sunk at 08:35 Hours off of the coast of the coast of the KSC, even though it had no weapons, and was preparing to go on a scouting mission." The leader of the Navy spoke as the Leader sat down. "This represents something that we have prepared for since the previous attacks on NSK troops; War." The cabinet members all gasped as they heard the word. They all knew, of course, that it might happen, as the increasing tensions had appeared to boil over multiple times. Still, the entire country was anxiously holding it's breath and hoping that it would be dissolved. "Our fighter jet production has been increasing at a steady rate, and we now have enough jets for strike plans A, B, and C, and Bomber production is at it's maximum ability." The Air Force leader said as he reviewed his multi-page report. "Good," The leader said. "Prepare the pilots for testing the jets. We can't have any mistakes. This war cannot be won with mistakes. The Army, the Marines, the Navy, the Air Force, Everyone must fight to the best of their abilities." Facing Jebediah Kerman, he said, "General Jeb, Prepare your troops. I must now write the declaration and send it to the Eastern Empire." The cabinet members all saluted and hurried to their own offices to prepare for the upcoming war.
  20. Hey all! I'm here creating this new thread because now that I finally have multiple missions running at the same time I feel like I need a place to link them all (for me and for you guys). So, here we go! The Call of The Void. This is the second part of The Beginning of a Space Program. It's hopefully going to continue where the last story left Kerbin off, and hopefully I will go to many different worlds with this one. Light it up-A trip to Laythe and Back. Light It Up was originally created when I wanted to do a practice mission to Laythe of deploying a station and landing on the surface in 1.1.3. I then thought: Heck! Let's make a video out of it. The music fit the video very well, I like that it's fast. I can safely say that this is my best one yet. The beginning of a space program. This mission report is about the development of a space program (originally called DMSP) from small probes to the future of space exploration. I try to update it as much as possible and I really do love writing it, I'm sticking with it for a while. It's so Classic-A trip around the Mün. Well, I made this video because a) I wanted to use the song Classic somewhere and b) I wanted a few views and a new video. I had no expectation that it would end up on Video Wednesdays. Messing with the Mun, Mucking with the Mun, and Taking on Tylo. Taking on Tylo is the real jewel out of these. Check it out. Old Stuff (plenty of stuff here).
  21. Background: "Solar System SCIENCE!!!" is a Science Mode save I first had in KSP 0.90. I have remade that save for every new version of KSP, and this is what I am doing in the current 1.1.2/1.1.3 save: ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Current Status: Science: Over 4,900 Active Missions: 7 Flags: 10 Furthest Kerbal Landing: Minmus Furthest Probe: Hermes Complex (Moho) Planets Visited by Kerbals: Kerbin, Mun, Minmus Planets Visited by Probes: Kerbin, Mun, Minmus, Moho, Duna Deaths: 0 Failed Missions: At least 5 Time: Year 2, Day 100-something ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Starting Story: The construction of Feronia Station is nearing completion. After the Docking Module, all that needs to be added to the main structure is at least one Crew Module for the station's occupants. The rocket carrying the Docking Module was launched on Year 2, Day 167. However, one of the boosters destroyed a stability wing during booster separation, and the orbit of the Docking Module became too tilted for a quick rendezvous. To worsen the situation, a recently ejected piece of debris destroyed the Clamp-o-Tron Sr. on Docking Leg 4, leaving only a regular Clamp-o-Tron on that leg. The flight directors at Triple-S argued what to do with the failing mission, and decided to keep going to Feronia Station. It was decided to use Docking Leg 4 as the place for the manned Volare spacecrafts to dock to, since they use regular Clamp-o-Trons. However, the Docking Module still needs to correct its orbit and dock to Feronia in order to succeed. ______________________________________________________________________________________________ Fun Facts: All of the events in this thread involving Solar System SCIENCE are mostly real. Things like the flight control Kerbals are added to create an interesting story. I have been doing Solar System SCIENCE in Kerbal Space Program since December of 2014. The fate of the Docking Module and more events are coming soon.
  22. The UKSA Chronicles As a result of game-crippling bugs (including one that completely stops the game from loading), I've given up on my 1.0.5 career save.
