My problem is for the last 4 years any time I've thought about playing KSP, I go "man I wish I had that new part I was working on..." and then work on that. And the thing is, I have way more parts I'd like to make than I can get through at a reasonable pace. At the end of the day it's fun and satisfying to make more parts, and I get to vicariously see it getting used through other people. That's why screenshots, especially of nice/aesthetic non-historical builds (ie legoing the parts) are always so nice to see on the thread. I wish we had hard fairings too. The thing is they would add a lot of time and RAM overhead for something not all players want to use. Who knows, maybe KSP2? Well... first off: I'll reiterate the design goals for the LDC/Barbarian parts. First, they were meant to fill out and expand the 3.125m size that already existed in BDB, secondly they were meant to bridge the Saturn and Titan parts and art styles, and third came trying to make historical recreations with them. The details on any sort of "big Titan" are so vague that even Ed Kyle's page are essentially just guesswork. Secondly, I'm not sure where you got 3.475m. Or 19 feet, for that matter. According to Ed Kyle the Barbarian was 200 inches / 5.08m. Scaling that by 62.5% makes it 3.175m which is well within the norm for being rounded to a standard size. The engines are also single nozzle LR-87s - check the thrust numbers compared to a Titan 34D for instance. So I think you can get a lot closer to Barbarian than you think. The only thing is I'm not sure there's a good engine mount option that allows 5 engines and 5 solids. Going back through and responding to some stuff I missed (sorry y'all, sometimes I don't have energy to respond to everything as well as I'd like so I hold off, and then forget...) Those probes are super nice! Always cool to see the ion parts getting used. What was powering them? Surely it can't be those little panels (which are overdue for being remade, I think...) The bus-what thing for space station what? Please, do tell Well, I certainly see the issue in the config for the names. The fields for "real_title", "real_manufacturer" etc were missing the "real_" in front of them. I have no idea what's going on with the attach nodes though... And of course it's a bug on a part whose model and attach nodes haven't been touched in about two years...

I actually do work as a 3D artist for an engineering firm, but what I do there is pretty different than KSP stuff. In any case I don't exactly envy the work culture and compensation in the game industry. Alouette test launch - I apparently didn't get pics of the payload separations, but this is the probe that goes on top of that dual payload adapter I made recently.

I plan on cleaning up and adding a bit more to the existing ones - the Gambit 3 Block 2 and onward need solar panels for example, and I want to make some more AFTRACK parts (ie subsatellites). Other stuff just caught my inspiration lately. I honestly haven't given Vega any more of a look since the last set of pictures I posted But sure. I don't watch Trek so I think the names were suggested to me. uhhhh Working on some necessary parts for Lunar Orbiter - the unique fairing base and decoupler! The latter will be necessary for using it in the historical "fold under" configuration. The side-mount panels will still be available. EDIT: slightly more up to date image

I'd ask @Nertea to make a mod and/or report that person- 77 replies

The fins are used to 'index' (read: force alignment) of the ports. Have you tried using like a radically different mod setup or something perhaps? For me KSP spawned an interest in space stuff and now I do a lot of reading in support of my own mod work. It feeds into each other - I read about cool stuff and want to make it, and making cool stuff makes me want to learn more. maybe it's the same with just playing?

I already had a long running private Discord server that takes up most of my spoons before the whole "modders having Discords" thing caught on. I try to be active here on the forums when I can find a headspace to reply, and I tend to post update pics as soon as I get to a good stopping point for feedback.

You and @Drakenex should talk about adding that blue Apollo skin to BDB in Colors And if you need any texture .PSDs, let me know. It's too much effort to keep an up to date repository of them somewhere but I can absolutely share any upon request. Yeah, I talked to some people today and they don't seem to have a problem with it. Maybe share some screenshots? What? Impromptu dev stream booting up! Have some energy and wanted to work on texturing these Lunar Orbiter parts. (Not enough energy to work on modeling for finishing Nimbus :|)

Oh... hmm... Well, those have been in the mod for... at least three years at this point and I've never had a problem reported with them? With that said, I've also never see anyone use them haha What exactly is the issue? They were made by @cxg2827 who is long gone, and I don't have access to any of the files for them anymore. So if it's a problem with the colliders or something I might not be able to help.

Love coming to check the thread and seeing so many replies! Haha I know nothing. Wow! And seriously, that Apollo reskin is so cool! I'd consider it if it had more hardware heritage with the F-1. If it was as simple as making a new nozzle and turbopump exhaust, y'know, the amount of effort would likely be worth it. But as is it's basically making a completely new engine. Still though, it's something I could see happening Some Daytm as part of the eventual Saturn revamp/expansion. Just... that's not remotely close to what I'm focused on working on right now. I know that some talks had occured re: future of SCANsat, in particular giving it visual spectrum scanning in additional to the radar mapping. Those would be much more appropriate. I know that the Keyholes are all high resolution as far as these things go, but I still think it would be interesting to see a difference between the "Mapping" camera systems (Corona) and the "high resolution" systems which were actual space-based telescopes (Gambit, Dorian). If only for gameplay purposes, to give reason to have multiple series of these things. @DJ Reonic post pictures when you do!

Oh, hahaha. That's not... like, based on the language of the game? That's a long running joke (that has only ever been funny to me) - Tantares came first, and is Soviet/Russian parts portrayed as being built by American companies? So the joke is BDB is American parts made by Russian design bureaus. I personally don't like having functional text on the models in general, so I transliterate English words to Cyrillic without actually translating them.

You're welcome! Yeah, it'll be a bit. This update is already, by my rough count, past 185 new or remade parts. And I'm nowhere near done! One of the problems is it's hard to break up these big projects because there's so many mutual decisions to be made. An example would be, both the Vega and Centaur upper stages need to get remade, but they share parts and also should be compatible. So decisions I make for how one fits together affect the other, and I'd want to make sure both work... which means in order to finish the Vega revamp, I'd have to do the modeling for the Centaur revamp... y'know, not a small task. Another excuse reason would be that usually our updates are save breaking, so I don't like making frequent releases. Yeah, there is no localization in BDB. Personally I'm ok with that - I hate the idea of having to edit all the flavortext in an external file. But also, I add like... a dozen parts a week? If anyone were to localize the mod they'd have to make a long term commitment to support.
