Did he really though? You don't see that many developers leave simultaneously unless a. The development is winding down and ending or b. There was some massive internal strife. In either case, it seldom turns out well for the game's future.

I would rather see a 1.25m cargo bay for carrying science on a plane. We have fairings for rockets.

KSP needs more purpose.
Alshain replied to Pixel Kola's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Unfortunately that eliminates most of the games that actually have "Tycoon" in their name. Sure it leaves the big names there, but go search for the word on Steam and you will find plenty of examples where that isn't true. -
I've seen threads like this all the time. The big problem is they always end up huge requests because people don't know how to define something small when they have no context. Unless you are a KSP developer you really don't know what it big and what is small.

KSP needs more purpose.

That has essentially be added to 1.2, but it's not really used just yet. You can upgrade existing parts through tech tree unlocks (making it different than sandbox at least until fully upgraded) but right now it's just available for modders. EDIT: Oops, I got ninja'd... by like an hour. -
@Kelderek I'm pretty sure it's a 1.2 feature, but the 'current stable version' is debatable. A lot of people are playing 1.0.5 because it is the current stable version. However, I don't know if the OP is playing 1.1 or 1.0.5, but I certainly wouldn't assume 1.2 EDIT: Actually based on his screenshot, it's probably 1.1. It has KSPedia, but no ComNet (which granted could just be turned off)

I don't think that setting is in his version of the game. He will have to edit files.

KSP needs more purpose.
Alshain replied to Pixel Kola's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Kerbal Space Program says what it does right there in the title. As soon as you start the game it's blindingly clear the goal is to go to space. Look, if you don't like it, don't play it. I like Tycoon games and space travel so I was naturally drawn to it, even before it was a tycoon game. -
Add to that some power supply companies lie stretch the truth about their rating. They will often take the wattage available to all the rails and add it together to get a number that looks higher than it is. Realistically the number that should be advertised is the wattage of the 12 volt rail only, because that's the one you use the most. For example, a 750 watt power supply should read 62.5 amps on the 12 volt rail (or close to it, 62 or 63... it doesn't matter). Good power supplies will give you all the specs, and wattage = amperage * voltage. So if you take the amperage for the 12 volt rail, multiply it times 12, if it's not the wattage advertised on the PSU (sometimes rounded up but that won't matter in the grand scheme) then you likely purchased a cheap piece o' junk sorry to say. If it doesn't tell you the amperage anywhere on the PSU, in the box, or on the store page you bought it from, you definitely got a cheap piece o' junk. Then of course PSU do weaken over time. They are the most likely item to fail in your computer (second would be standard HDD, but not SSD). They can fail without being totally dead. If you don't have or know how to properly use a Multimeter, your best bet for diagnosing this is a PSU tester like this one. Just remember that if you use one of those options, they do not need to be perfect, just very close. 11.9V on a 12V rail is just fine. Sometimes your Motherboard bios may be able to tell you this information but it isn't always reliable as it may not be putting enough load to drag it into it's failure range. Voltage issues often only show up under heavy loads of video cards and cpus working to their max as they would with a 3D game. Now, other things that could be happening. Heat will often cause freeze ups. If you added a bunch of more powerful equipment and no new cooling, or failed to use thermal grease on the CPUs... you could very well be overheating. Bad RAM. It's rare but possible to get a defective RAM stick, though typically this will cause a BSOD rather than a freeze. It's not an exact science though. One other thing. Having a primary video card in an 8x is bad for performance. It shouldn't freeze or cause issues. PCI-E slots are completely cross compatible, as long as it is physically able to fit. You could really put it in a 1x slot if it has the right plastic header and it would still work, but your computer's ability will suffer greatly. The 16x slot exists really only for the video card. Just about no other expansion card needs it. In fact even the 8x is really there for a second video card. Most other expansion cards don't need more than 1x.

KSP needs more purpose.
Alshain replied to Pixel Kola's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
No, you haven't 'won' the game when you finished the tech tree. As far as I'm personally concerned the game hasn't really begun until you've finished the tech tree. Well, that and ComNet as well, but I don't see how that is a story. But hey, if you like it to be, more power to you They add contracts, not really much story though. That's just more objectives. Again, I guess you could think of that as a story, in which case you will be pleased with 1.2. The worlds firsts have had an overhaul that least to more of a progressive quest. Regarding @Pixel Kola's earlier comment on programming quality, if contracts were the concern, Contract Configurator is very well done and most contract packs are based on that mod (and in fact have no programming at all themselves). @KSK Alright, but in KSP the overreaching goal is to manage a space program, explore the solar system, and make it profitable enough to fund those ventures. How is that not clearly defined? There is no clear definition in SimCity that your goal is to build a city either, but I'm guessing if you bought the game you know that. Similarly you don't buy a space program game to go farming. I don't think we have a different definition of Tycoon game, I just think you don't realize KSP fits your definition perfectly. -
KSP needs more purpose.
Alshain replied to Pixel Kola's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
@KSK What you describe is a tycoon game. Not all of them have to be identical in nature, but the general idea it is a never ending sandbox-style game (not to be confused with a full sandbox mode) where you complete objectives for currency and build things. Not all of those have to be there really. RollerCoaster Tycoon is all of that, KSP is all of that, Transportation Tycoon is all of that. I've recently been playing Game Dev Tycoon which is all of that. SimCity doesn't have objectives you complete for currency, which really means that is a city builder genre, not a tycoon, but they are so similar the lines get blurred. Tropico, for example, is a city builder with tycoon style objectives. In general, the common threads are that they generally either last forever, or have the ability to continue forever after completing the primary objective (as in RCT), and they are always player driven rather than story driven. KSP is a match for this definition, so I don't know by which criteria you say it isn't a tycoon game, but it seems like one to me. -

Alshain replied to Pixel Kola's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
This is the point where you lost me. You can't win KSP, what were your criteria for 'winning'? You are in the wrong genre. Have you ever played SimCity/Cities: Skylines and thought it needed more story? Roller Coaster Tycoon or Transportation Tycoon? Elite? It's not that kind of game. There are way more than 4 contract types. Many don't appear till you unlock appropriate parts. Have you gotten very far into the tech tree? Or maybe you are playing it really wrong. Reputation affects how prestigious of contracts you receive. Maybe that is why you have only seen 4 kinds. The resource system sucks. Adding more resources to it would only compound a problem system with more problems. How does Kerbnet add story? I like Kerbnet but I'm not following the reasoning. Do any of them really add a story? I'm not aware of any (but there are a lot of them). Bottom line is tycoon games are not your thing. Nothing to be ashamed of, everyone has different tastes (I, for example, hate multiplayer first person shooters). I suggest avoiding the genre as it will leave you bored if you aren't into the never ending sim/tycoon style games. -
adding multiplayer
Alshain replied to wolf creates16's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
My best educated guess is Multiplayer will likely show up around 1.4. We already know that, at least at one point, Squad wanted to do graphical enhancements. No real details were given but this would possibly include things like clouds, planetshine, better plumes, atmospheric scattering, water effects, ice particle effects, better collision effects, more engines with lighting effects, and of course the already known rocket part revamp which would improve textures on the rocket parts (none of that is confirmed except the rocket part revamp, just possibilities). My guess is this visual enhancement will be 1.3, after that Multiplayer is really the only thing left that has been promised, aside from a few GUI enhancements (like a Delta V calculator) which theoretically shouldn't be that big a task.- 367 replies

What the heck is going on!?!
Alshain replied to W. Kerman's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Most likely Trim. Press Alt+X -
It would just get abused. People go through every thread now and give it a one star vote for no reason at all. I think they should remove the star rating, and if they can't give us an anonymous option for that like button, that should go too!

1.0.5 crashing
Alshain replied to irish101's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
I wouldn't recommend 1.1.3, it will make it likely make it worse, but it doesn't hurt to try I suppose as long as you make backups. You would really be better off with the pre-release than the current release, it's more stable. -
@jfigueredo Decouplers should have this turned on in stock already. I have scripts here with full instructions for everything that does not. (With 1.2, all that is left is Engines, Parachutes and Launch Clamps)

1.1 is the only one I purged, because 1.1 isn't worth saving. The rest I copied out and I have copies of all of the versions since 23.5 when I started keeping them.

Adding craft in orbit to main menu screen
Alshain replied to Fonz's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
First of all it's a menu screen, not a loading screen. Second the idea is cool but I'm betting it would take a lot of dev time to get it working right and it's just not worth it. -
Suggestion: Add Navball markers to the smiley list.
Alshain replied to Alshain's topic in Kerbal Network
Sorry for the late response but thanks to both of you @Tex_NL, and @nightingale for the other 3 @0111narwhalz The above was the intent of the request, but they could be used in other ways I suppose, rules permitting of course. Look at the link in the first post for an example of usage (of course those were links to the wiki images). -
[WIP] [1.2-pre-only] AdvancedTweakablesButton
Alshain replied to Alshain's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
I debated adding it for flight, I was a little concerned about polluting the flight app launcher bar because more mods use it and you can turn on advanced tweakables just by hitting escape and going to the menu there. However, if people are interested I can turn it on for flight. -
KER does good math. It will even tell you when to start your burn, which is more than just 1/2 the burn time before the node. It takes into account the mass of the spent fuel as well. Mine looks almost just like @regex but I split the staging off into it's own group on the other side. EDIT: Well I guess I do have a few more items, I like to see the "Time To AN/DN" at a glance as well and I have Impact Biome which doesn't show here.

@The_Rocketeer You seem to be under the impression there is some difference. You can't say anything about KSP on console that does not apply to the PC because they are the same game. You've set an impossible expectation.

Key Down Mod Needed: Ctrl+Shift+W to Lock W to Down - Mod Needed
Alshain replied to inigma's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
I'm not seeing any obvious way to do this in the API docs. Not everything is moddable.
