Harnessing the Kraken: Eeloo in 11 hours!
Frozen_Heart replied to Comrade Jenkens's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Really good to hear they're working again after so long. Hopefully the devs don't 'fix' this feature after the pre release. Will start playing with them again myself to see what I can come up with. Might make a new OP as I can no longer edit this one. :/ -
[STOCK] Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor replica
Frozen_Heart replied to YoeriCookie's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Really nice replica. Have a lot of trouble making F-22s due to their flat body. And ignore the haters.- 11 replies

What would be humanity's likeliest demise?
Frozen_Heart replied to Atlas2342's topic in Science & Spaceflight
I can't really see much that could wipe out humanity atm apart from either cosmic threats or we evolve and or no longer 'human'. Other things on the list could maybe kill 99%, but some would survive and start it all again. -
I prefer stock, but there are certain realistic things a would like to see added. (nerfed reaction wheels, single resources life support, engineer readout in VAB)

Shuttles too easy now?
Frozen_Heart replied to Nich's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Managed proper shuttles back when we didn't have things like Vectors and large SRBs and NASA parts. I'm glad that they have got easier as it always felt that an important part of spaceflight is missing. The balance between Vectors and SRBs is another subject entirely, and one that isn't easily solved as it would require a large parts rebalance. Not to mention that proper shuttle bossters in KSP would be about 1.875m which is a purely mod part range atm. -
Tbh I don't think this will ever get solved. The measurement anomalies will always be there, and no one will get the money to properly test it. I still believe that they are just errors or something but its just frustrating that the thing will never be put to rest. :/
-
But SpaceX would lose the rocket even if they didn't do these tests. Real world tests will always be more accurate than any computer simulation.

Just like the good old days!

1.1 New Feature: Cutaway Interiors!
Frozen_Heart replied to CalculusWarrior's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I like it. Seems like a nice bonus feature that gives incentive for docking lots of station modules together. -
Community interest in Gas planet 2
Frozen_Heart replied to LethalDose's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Wow that is a serious necro. Hopefully with 64 bit and unity 5 done the devs will be able to focus on things such as more planets. A new gas giant with 3 or 4 moons would add a lot more to the kerbol system. -
Rest in pieces.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Applause didn't sound large enough for a landing.
-
They need to invest in Falcon proof cameras.
-
Quality seems a lot higher this time. I think the Falcon missed.
-
So what are the chances that this thing actually launches today?
-
The vehicle itself looks fine. What makes me think that it will never happen is the company. They are completely unequipped ad unable to make a spacecraft or launch vehicle and no matter how much money is poured in they will just produce fancy powerpoint presentations.

Not sure why ppl are getting hissy about it not being on store. If they put it on store all it would do is crash its servers for the entirety of pre release and no one could play it anyway. Same result just the website is down as well.
-
Looking forward to it! Going to opt in for this.
-
Damn 3rd fail to launch in a row. Hope they can still attempt it today.

The reason a lot of these rockets are suffering from flipping so badly is due to a bug with fairings. Rather than their drag coming from somewhere in their middle, it instead comes from beyond their nose, causing the centre of drag to be much further forward than it should be. All of my rockets from 1.0.4 no longer work due to this bug unless I add giant fins to the bottom.

I'm still not getting the point of the SLS. There is next to no missions planned and after the first couple it will probably sit around for 15 years then get cancelled. Having said that I think that they should keep developing it as they have nothing else in the pipeline and starting over now would be absurd.

The exhaust isn't radioactive in most fission rocket designs. Especially with the solid core rockets that were being tested in the nerva program. Its just superheated hydrogen. If the fuel rods are poorly made or in certain liquid and gas core designs the exhaust can be radiative, but they have never really been pursued.

Solar powered Ion driven Space craft, theoretical limitations
Frozen_Heart replied to PB666's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Would a small fission reactor work better than solar panels for an ion spacecraft? -
2018: Russian space agency completely defunded due to their economic troubles. 2018: ULA completely folds due to no longer being competitive with other companies. 2021: After continual budget cuts, cost overruns, and with no clear mission the SLS is cancelled. 2024: Without support the ISS is cancelled and deorbited. With nothing larger currently ongoing or even planned NASA budget reduced to 0.1% of the budget leaving them unable to launch. 2030: SpaceX running the Falcon 9 and Heavy at a combined 15 launches per year, while still going on about Mars plans which will never happen. Losing customers fast due to ever growing launch queues and inability to meet a schedule. Yes I'm a pessimist.
