1. Gave her a try..she makes a pretty impressive sno-train landtrain.. Steering modified to 45 degrees sub 10ms and 21 at 20 One thing I find though.. The wheels dont seem to have alot of lateral grip? In that the whole train sort of slides sidewards like a hovercraft.. Something not encountered with modded stock wheels Any chance of larger wheels if a donations made? :) Eg landtrain sized ones...sno frieghter or LLC1 sized Apart from that lovely stuff :) works impressively well with diesel electric too..wheel torque is perfect
2. Its a bit...limiting if only 4 wheels? Theres been a few of these over the years..always fun but not so tightly controlled
3. I got one built and ready..shes a STOL..ill fly tonight after work (friday) Flys like a dream she does..
4. Kerbal Train Program.. To pronounce it correctly I shall have to rip out your tongue :p
5. Never been to the mun myself but kerbin has quite alot of uneven terrain from the 200km ive seen driving trains.. Your craft looks like a tog II of sorts..a capable and powerful vehicle.. I wish you good fortune and a safe journey :) Admirable programming too..i envy your skills greatly... Best i can do is lock wheelthrottle to 1. When my foot gets tired on the deadman pedal.. Any chance of a guide?
6. I seen a....kerbin eclipse once on the titlescreen... It was very dark... Was it a bug or is it a thing?
7. I tried 1.05 It displeased me... I downgraded to 1.04 It was.....nicer on my trains and mods for trains... I used to laugh at them odd little people who would pilot boats in FSX or cars in train simulators.. I am now one of them I like trains.. I drive them with a steering wheel I use the VAB as nothing more than a staging area for wagons... I use the carpark near the crew building to store locomotives And those little yellow electric trucks you see wizzing around as scenery.. I use the mod and actually seriously drive one around ksc and beyond.. Its not changed in 2 years..its just got more detailed..more complex Space is the black thing out of the cab windows at night.. The mun looks like a hologram because ive never been there to prove its real. And my worst sin? The only rocket I ever use is the LV-1R And it plays a horn sound from a diesel locomotive when toggled.. Forgive me its awful
8. 9. That music .... I mostly spend time in the SPH so its the jazzy number for me.. Its a sinister coverup.. Attempting to make light of a very serious task.. Like that time I replaced doom midis with dance of the sugarplum fairys tune For me its replaced with Kevin Mcclouds At Rest tune.. It far more accurately portrays the fact that the train im building is nothing more than a multi segmented detriot diesel death machine and all that board her might never see another sunrise.. And indeed...that gets stuck in my head alot That sweet jest like xylophone jazziness has no place in my head... It portays one thing generally.. A time vortex of which there is no escape... Minutes turn to hours..hours turn to days And should it ever be stuck in my head.. I would have aged 20 years in minutes.. Im glad to say it never has:)
10. Any love for steering wheels? I have a logitech 3d pro stick but it didnt give the right feel for driving trains and trucks. I use a mc2 xbox madcatz wheel Works great for KSP even lets me modify trains to turn a full 47 degrees at low speed for shunting and yard operations Works nicely for any truck too.. Using pedals for forward and back... Had a comfortable 80km drive in a KSC electric cargo truck the otherday... Enjoyed it very much
11. I think a better approach and ideal is to simply see kerbin as a showcase. its our homeworld.. starting point for all.. some like myself choose to stay on it yes.. but kerbin is far from barren (with scatter enabled) its a beautiful place.. full of amazing terrain.. deadly as it is beautiful.. the things ive seen as a train driver.. KSP might have simple graphics but its the scale that impresses me.. yet. theres times everything adds up to give me a sense of awe that no other game has.. its also the game to be able to eventually fully simulate land trains such as the forgotten LLC1 sno train and snofreighter..a long term dream of mine none of this though I had in mind when I purchased KSP.. I came for the space... stayed for everything else Having all these extra parts is a good thing.. squad know what their doing.. it'll all even out.. everythings all connected.. in the end im sure we'll have planets as detailed as kerbin being the normal thing.. for now its best to focus on kerbin to develop those things before wider deployment I dont think space plane and rover parts detract from space.. but rather build a foundation for a better experience in the long term
12. A wonderful idea I wish you well fellow traveler .. If kerbins surface is anything to go by im sure squad thought long about this very possibility and your bound to find unexpected beauty underwater as many have on land
13. an odd occurence lastnight while building a train in the SPH... I fired up the squash a kerbal thingie from the debug menu and fired a few spheres off in jest at some ground crew..Not sure this is new but a few of the spheres rolled out of the SPH and..... Hit.. Buildings causing them to explode..I always thought the SPH was in its own reality instance seperate from the realworld.. And that the sky is a painting.. But.. It seems its not true anymore? The buildings were indeed destroyed once I launched the train and went to have a lookIs this new or did I just miss it?
14. The mark1 hatch might be ok with a ladder to jump too and climb but I agree wholeheartedly..its a step backwards.. Saddens me really
15. Same issue http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/138918-Stand-clear-Doors-Closing-%28Said-no-one%21%29 Came to the conclusion no ones impressed by it..they need to fix it quick
16. Anyone got a set of the old air intakes then? From 0.24 or so the black ones
17. All very true spacetraindriver... For me its that and more Kerbins a very beautiful place..deadly as much as it is too... For the typical pilot rushing over the green expanse below its a blur of green and trees if scatters enabled.. I certainly thought so too before I took 4408 out beyond the boundry of KSC over the mountains.. There I learnt the magic that pilots of spacecraft feel amazed at the detail in KSP ala squad also extends to kerbin itself.. Mountain ranges, snow capped wonders on the horizon..beautiful vistas and endless terrain where only the sound of 4408s EMD engines and lonely sounding leslie air horns where all that existed between my crew and certain death in isolation.. Terrain smooth one moment..gentle..tranquil.. Hypnotic can turn deadly..steep and so intimidating youll go around it at the cost of hours.. Seeing tiny features on the horizon become reality as they grow bigger and the moments when the light..trees..and everything on kerbin all blends together to create something so unexpectedly beautiful you stop to admire it Kerbin has alot to offer indeed Its all.. One complex detailed framework of a reality so much overlooked but so worthy of a visit by all And thats without trains.. Throw a custom heavily modded locomotive and tanker cars in the mix and its that plus so much more Working Diesel electric transmission..modified hybrid rover wheels.. Working air horns.. RCS assisted sanders for traction.. And all of that operating in a careful balence between harmony and certain failure.. Hills becoming things of nightmares as the wheels start to slip and you can hear them spinning up from the cab.. Speed slowly bleeding off and engine generators approaching redline as they glow and threaten explosions shutting down the heart of the locomotive with no power To stop means failure..to stall means possible roll overs.. Speed down to 5ms and rcs thrust pushing down on the wheels to stop that spinning wheel as the loco gains her feet and starts gaining ground.. Yep.. Thats a small glimpse of what ive experienced as a the driver of a 44 class land train in KSP.. None of its made up or sensationalised.. Every trips one hell of an experience EDIT: See the loss of 4003 & Birth of 4004.. with the all too common journey to pay respects to the fallen.. one of the most emotional train-laden moments ive experienced in KSP http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/115268-Elcano-Challenge-Attempted-circumnavigation-Overland-s-Thread-%28Multi-Class-Landliner-Trains%29?p=2139194&viewfull=1#post2139194 and.. pretty scenery So how can I not get bored? How can you? become a train driver and learn the arts .. You need a steering wheel though or a good joypad Um yeah...no doors...not nice... Blame spacetraindriver for derailing the thread
18. If ore tanks fully loaded sink as ballast tanks... Then someone might want to try doing what I do with jet turbines on my locomotives The alternator line on an engine configuration file can be modified to generate seemingly any resource.. Mine generate monopropellant for my traction motors For a submarine though modding any engines alternator to generate ore thats fed into tanks when its turned on would most likely make it sink... Dumping the ore might make it float again.. Im on my phone so I cant try it but I cant see why it wouldnt work?
19. Right so I got home from work happy to get into this new KSP update happy to start hauling passenger trains again.. they looked good.. while a 44 class isnt exactly a passenger locomotive... they were used as such before electrics and diesel multiple units.. she suited them well.. the lighting looked beautiful.. KSP as a whole runs slower but ive yet to tweak any graphics The problem came on the operational side of things when I noticed a very strange lack of something.. see ive been using sam hall's passenger pods and cockpit since 0.20 atleast I think.. they're single occupant pods with a door on 1 side.. as seen on the locomotives nose.. something starting with D ending in R with 2 00's in the middle seemed to be .. missing so this seemed odd.. suddenly kerbals unlike martians dont understand doors?... Still the EVA button was there so I pressed it.. and off went flying a kerbal squeezing between the bogeys and the passenger pods, ripping the rear passenger car in half and causing a horrible explosion.. then I noticed this relocate passenger button.. curious in that the only realistic way to alight the train was infact to invade the crew sleeping quarters and pop out of the crew cab... so.. I mean.. I use trains yeah.. but I can see this being rather annoying for even planes, ships.. rockets etc its a beautiful passenger pod and they make great carriages.. but. the cassandra crossing it is not.. passengers arnt sealed into the carriages until the end when everything explodes horribly and only a few survive.. atleast not ment too? im.. confused .. impressed.. but still confused.. not sure if im disapointed or entertained.. its not just me no?
20. Would this fix the bug stock or otherwise when you dock 2 craft with cockpits one gets messed up as the internal camera gets assigned to the docking port...thus you can see your own ship clipping through its own cockpit? Or in my case.. Allow control trailers on trains without the above happening?
21. its truely turned evil for me I cant exactly escape it.. I live 3 hours from work so trains are my second home 3 hours each way.. of course I see alot of trains of many different kinds.. the creative ideas start flowing (including a semi workable steam piston idea) and suddenly when im home its into KSC to construct the latest idea.. The elcano challenge is worst though its given everything a purpose.. nothings ever finished... goals never reached.. always trying and the problem with that is.. well... like last month.. I got out of bed on weekend.. did 10 minutes of KSP... looked out the window.. its not today anymore and tomorrow is work.. ugh
22. Landliner 1000 Class - The original trains.. Ugly as all hell.. way before the days of dedicated hybrid transmissions.. they were jet propelled by sam hall's micro jet pod (oddly similar to the future 1.05's jet pod..) Fast.. lethal.. ugly.. with a purpose they never quite achieved because no one survived to tell the tale.. before I knew it they were upto 1012+ in class numbers.. this was mid 2014 as I recall (LL1007 seen here with a twin jet failure limping back to the yard on 1 engine and traction motors) it was a workable living ecosystem of early landliner trains... much older ansestors to the current day 40 class and 44 class.. my favorate engine from the time wasnt actually a mainline generation 3 tri-jet though.. actually a battery laden warts n all looking battery shunter for when I used to launch 1 wagon at a time and shunt the train into a full rake of wagons, locomotives, control trailers and tankers for the long trip ahead.. Her name was X2002 and her sistership upgraded X3001 She worked harder than any locomotive I built at the time.. id just found the rover wheel mod and added electric train sounds.. she had a soul of her own.. all wrapped up in a likewise little world never seeing outside the limits of KSC.. she would spend missions puttering around the runway, the main hanger.. the railyard (carpark) for the limits of her batteries.. never taken back into the SPH.. this was a persistant locomotive that knew her role well as small as it was.. like any other locomotive running on batteries alone in such a role.. she had no generator of her own. nor engine.. she was pure electric traction from batteries she needed a little help from her friends.. with primitive alternators from the jet engine pods and brakes applied.. any mainline locomotive nearby that had either came in from a run or just launched for one spent upto an hour running full throttle in a cloud of smoke to charge this poor thing.. mainline locos needed the shunter to assemble trains.. without it they'd be unable to function.. but just the same X2002 needed mainline locomotives to charge her batteries... it was.. I dunno some kind of symbiotic relationship.. quite fond of the old girl really.. she never took any kerbals life.. wasnt a killing machine in the form of a train like her mainline sisters.. she had a job to do.. she did it well... and went into retirement undamaged makes me very nostalgic since it was abandoned once I took batteries out of the whole project and started experimenting with direct power to torque hybrid systems that didnt need batteries at all. and the jets became generators.. no one needed battery shunters anymore.. everything had its own and more compact I miss it though greatly sadly that ugly intake isnt around anymore so it prevents me making any replicas EDIT: um.. my bad.. you did say rockets.... havent got any of them
23. A better not so flexable passenger carriage using the new mark 1 passenger pod.. Possibly make a turbotrain inspired passenger diesel electric railcar
24. Nassault! from them meer few seconds im sure your latest project will be a thing of beauty, awe (and.. possibly death of jeb) with a touch of sweet sorrow at the end.. your skill in crafting movies and scenes to almost in programmable fashion manipulate the viewers emotions to make every movie an experience rather than a view is near perfection.. youve mastered the craft.. one increasingly seemed lost in the landscape awash with more simple quality vs quantity aspects of movies.. I dearly look forward to seeing your full movie when its finished.. my favorate of yours was starstuff.. my elcano attempt in my signature and all the things ive been through driving trains since then thats been well documented all started somewhere.. inspired by your KERBAL movie of scott kermin venturing to the poles... that and introducing me to that fade track you use well.. transforming the simple moments into something hauntingly beautiful Well wishes to you and your future (apologies for the formatting. it seemed rather odd and this was the only solution to prevent eye bleeding )
25. My elcano challenge thread has become kind of a hybrid of a mission report and everyday events that happen in Kerbal Train Program.. None are fiction though and all writing with accompanied screenshots and video actually happened.. its not as focused as it used to be though so might classify under something in this section.. not quite sure.. it'd be nice to know though
