Spline based construction for roads..rail etc I know unity supports it but in its current state KSP wouldnt do so well Wheel physics a tad better. Ive never had any trouble with current ones but improvements always good Stock wheelsound.. As much as I love roverwheelsound mod . Make it stock already! And give kerbin better sunsets not this blue sky but everywhere dark thing thats common in the near-night hours Fix lighting so the landscape lights up with sunset and sunrise

Anyone have experience with these prints and things like M1 rover wheels? Id love to get a 44 class diesel printed but they use M1 rover wheels and truss mounts for the bogeys.. Im thinking just print the loco body and make the bogeys from matchbox car parts?

There was a time every train had a mixed crew.. the females mostly engineers were adept at walking under trains between the couplings for tyre repairs and KAS/KIS duties...val herself in sandbox mode replaced jeb and bob who were moved to the passenger cars with jeb as an observer\fireman in the 44 class locos that were then primary mainline units of KTP Val and her sisters even looked rather nice in high vis She quickly displaced most male kerbals as 4408 mk2s official driver Until one fateful day on some even flowing ground..the cab camera was engaged.. What followed was the stuff of nightmares JUST NO!! The locos engines slowed to idle with her detriot engines rudely interupted from full warcry.. Something had to be done.. Vals face insulted everything that is honourable about kerbal train program with hundreds of real world hours driving and nursing trains across kerbin She was promptly kicked out..got made to sit on the last wagon then flicked away under speed as 4408 mk2 laboured to climb a steep grade and regain her honour Rivalry? There is none.. And everyones happy once again Just like these happy people proud to serve on the KTP..

I recomend the elcano challenge...circumnavigation of kerbin by ground.. Indeed its a challenge in the true sense of the word and a great honour to engage in.. Never completed it myself but its been the most draining, challenging and emotional experience in any game ive ever played Go for it

I dont have a wii-u yet..im sure like many others the lack of good games pulled me back from making the purchase.. With that said if KSP came to it..id buy one... Why? Because some casual alternate control scheme KSP would supliment my pc with dedicated steering wheel.. Its a wonderful direction to take ksp.. A less serious approach that will be no doubt enjoyed by many. Perhaps even fire off a spark of science in younger players leading to a better future . Squad is\was a marketing company KSP was a surprise hit...dont blame them for wanting to branch out for more exposure.. It benefits us all in the long run And if KSP on consoles taints those who would be of the master race... Feel free to boot up orbiter and once again feel exclusive...elite..and somewhat alone

Haven't played in a couple years : is hard-docking possible yet?
Overland replied to SomeGuy123's topic in KSP1 Discussion
They make good stock flexable joint couplings.. If they were as rigid as say hard dock etc then itd seriously impact engineering possibilities for say rover supension..train couplings and the like . Dont get me wrong though theres definately a need for a proper docking part..but some of these quirks to kerbalised parts your unhappy about form the foundations to other craft outside of stick shaped space stations -

Overland replied to SomeGuy123's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I happen to like wobbly docking ports..the features exploited by many a driver and flyer of exotic craft.. While I do see the point.. We should get a stock omni directional ball socket joint in its place once docking ports are "fixed" They got annoyingly rigid recently.. But I see how that benefits some people too -
What is the most HORRIBLE way one of your kerbals died
Overland replied to 322997am's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Worst would be when 4408 mark 2 ate a kerbal.. Really There she was idling away with a single detriot diesel genset on a steady chug to keep the lights lit.. Crew scattered around bombo bay 80km from KSC she'd suffered a non critical mid wheel failure and a kerbal was sent out to repair it.. Having repaired the wheel it disturbed me that a locomotive was idling with no crew inside.. A kraken attractant of warrented fearfulness.. So using the then-new ability to climb things..i sent a kerbal to climb 4408's nose with the ideal of climbing over the windscreen and horns then sliding down the side of the cab and boarding.. No fuss.. That didnt happen...instead after climbing up the truss that made the wheel mounts and climbing again..the kerbal disapeared.. No dust..still able to be controlled..but somehow digested by 4408 What happened was the kerbal somehow climbed between the mini adaptor plate on the nose and the passenger pod.. And got stuck there Any attempts at moving made most lesser parts wiggle concerningly.. Eventually..out came the kerbal at light speed..upwards.. Fell to the ground and erupted into a cloud of dust.. It seemed 4408 wasnt hungry The BEST way a kerbal died was when valentina pulled a horrible face killing any immersion I had to an otherwise perfect drive She was promptly ejected from the cab. Fell off the back of the train.. And went poof.. It was entirely justified -
Killing your Kerbals: does it make you feel bad?
Overland replied to Boris_T_Roach's topic in KSP1 Discussion
For me its not the kerbals but the trains themselves..specificly the locomotives The very heart and soul of a train From the moment the engines start in a cloud of smoke.. Throttle brought upto idle and headlights start to glow brightly. A trains soul is reborn.. For the lucky ones it means just a local trip to the mountains or some yard shunting.. But for the unlucky..they pass that 30km threshhold that means a train and her crew are left to thier own for survival and any incident bad enough means that all is lost and yet another class number is added on the side of a sister minted with the same hopes as her fallen classmate ..that new trains first mission then involves rescuing any remaining crew from her fallen sister train and planting a flag in her honour.. Eventually slowly proceeding through the wreck with engines at a respectful low rpm as the wreck fades smaller in the distance.. Its not easy to be optimistic about a journey given the origins.. And its always a great hope that... This time.. This locomotive...this train is the one to succeed My list is great.. Both sad and an honour to behold 44 class from 4403 to 4409 lived eventful lives..achieved much.. Some even had 100s of kilometres in experience.. 4409 went in a firey explosion battling a mountain with twin generator failure.. Being the most emotional loss thats noteworthy 4410 to 4425 some still live on as yard shunters..others retired..4402 is in space orbiting kerbin 40 class D4001 to 4015 lived assorted lives too detailed to mention.. Noteworthy would be 4016..still functional yet impaired parked 80km from KSC with broken front wheels awaiting recovery Its never easy..but if it was...it wouldnt be the same -
kerbal space program..its... its very good..its given me things that life never has..its also let me drive things other sims would not.. its simply wonderful for a great many reasons Im a train enthusiast..yet most train simulators fail to capture the spirit They should KSP succeeds in this greatly an ecosystem of land trains that have mainline units..shunters..electrics..diesels real stories that spring up from adventures on kerbin.. a landscape of its own lore thats written itself into existance tales of losses..where the fallen trains and crew are honoured.. great successes to be celebrated every class number has its own story and reason for being and the locomotives themselves almost having a soul like thier realworld railbound sisters and thats just scratching the surface.. KSP isnt so much a game..its a culture that im proud to be a part of

You know you've built a huge rocket, when ...
Overland replied to Jimbodiah's topic in KSP1 Discussion
When the only way you envision a train being stabled overnight in the SPH is to be curled up like a sleeping snake through sheer length of the wagon consist and she carries enough fuel to get to the mun When stopping with loco brakes only leaves a train with a broken nose and smashed front coupler when you can see the guards van for an instant slowly trundle around the corner out of sight... ....From the locomotive cab while traversing the yards launch path next to the SPH And finally..when KSP physics cry and rubber band a docking port on the leading wagon while starting with full generator power and brake release -
Little update.. My PCs dead so ill be getting a new more powerful and dependable rig very shortly .. This will bring back the 8 to 10 car trains of 2013 (year not 20 class!) All data was saved to a flash drive so 4016s still where she was left For the meantime heres 4427 climbing hills then inbound to ksc during the forum outage 4427 grade climbing Inbound KSC

[1.0.5] Stryker's Aerospace and Armory (Continued by SM)
Overland replied to strykersm's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Nice project :) is it possible to do a dual ended cockpit with duplicate gauges forwards and back with a 360 degree view or clickable rotate camera function? I love one for a battery electric yard shunter for assembling trains.. Doesnt need to be pretty just functional (finding a pic now) -
Soon my good friend we shall have steam locos in KSP.. Starting small such as a lombard log hauler tracked land train loco.. All I need to find is a way to sync the sounds properly or for an engine to fire once the cylinders at full pressure.. Similar to how I use the jet alternators and rover wheels as a proper throttle for a diesel loco Steam needs a bit more engineering though.. I want a proper fire from an engine visible from the IVA cab and chuff sound being audible not just pitch change like diesels All possible..slowly coming to reality I also found KAS magnets make more dependable kracken resistant couplings.. But we need to use switchers to marshall a train.. So battery electric yard locos are on the roadmap too.. Ill release my 44 class generator engine and wheels over the next week..works fine with mechjeb or kos on the reverser (lock wheelthrottle to 1.) Youll need a joystick or wheel though So yeah..its all coming slowly but nothings been forgotten :)

Homebrew Career mode, or How Do You Play KSP?
Overland replied to Waxing_Kibbous's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Out of interest how many easter eggs would be on kerbin? Not specifics..numbers would be nice -
Dont drive land trains without my steering wheel.. Just dont.. their modified to work very well with a steering wheel.. but lethal with a keyboard That very thing goes through my head alot after work... as the degrees the wheels are able to turn go from 45 degres @ 10m/s to 17 @ 23 m/s then finally 12 around 30 This means there wonderful to drive around the yard with a full steering wheel rotation making the train curve around corners naturally and ease into any shunting situation.. using keyboard.. not so much.. See I was fine tuning the power curve vs electricity generation of the new 44 class generation 6.. why I turn I dont know.. but I did.. a train is just a string of fuel tanks really.. and once shes on her roof... theres no turning back.. it ends horribly.. every single time made worse by the fact that it doesnt matter if the gaurds van at the back twists first. or the locomotive.. the rest of the train usually follows :(

How long have you kept a vehicle design?
Overland replied to DunaRocketeer's topic in KSP1 Discussion
its systems for me.. The way I modify a jet pod to output no thrust but use it alternator to pump out electricity converted from fuel The diesel electrics have been in use over a year now As its the only viable way to control wheel speed and torque with the engine throttle.. Mediums might have changed..from electric traction motors to monoprop drinking hydaulic motor styled wheels.. But it all starts with sam hall's jetpod and 0.25 configuration file That and the 44 class.. The class might have been rebuilt..hammered around..experimented with and reverted.. But under all the changes including swapping the wheelbase around from back to front...eg 6 wheels doesnt steer as well as 4 up front Shes the same locomotive in spirit from over a year ago... As much as i.try new things.. Shes got a place in my heart and KSC just isnt the same without an active '44 on the roster 4408 - April 2015 4427 - November 2015 -
Shes a beautiful girl spacetraindriver :) Ever thought about duplicating some parts and modding them for joint strenth, weight and giving them a paint? With some slight custom mods theres no reason why she wouldnt be able to be an active loco on the roster.. Needs a whistle too.. Id love to see her in action.. Care to put the part file on kerbalx? Ill see what can be done.. Ill be uploading the parts soon since squad did mention old stock parts are permissable to mod and upload in packs

A little update.. 4016 remains where she was left.. ive not had much time this weekend. and what time I did have I dedicated to 4427 full mainline 44 class modeled more on her ansestor 4408 and 4404.. full EMD sound engine sings like a tree full of birds in the sunrise on idle.. roars like a lion at full throttle.. her horn modeled (with full permission from the author) on A leslie RS type horn similar to originally used in 4408s launch video.. All up shes a fully equipt mainline ready locomotive.. thats hopefully going to rescue 4016 eventually.. and I hope either 4427 herself or one of her close class mates proceeding will resume the elcano challenge.. im getting a new PC soon so shouldnt be too long.. it has a touch of legendary beauty.. that as class numbers approach 4428 and again go back to the traditional 44 class.. the spirit of 4408 that originally started this adventure inspires it most.. exactly 20 in advance of her class number.. a celebration of what was achieved, what was lost.. and a great hope for the future Test run KSC yard video coming soon :) @ Spacetraindriver.. I like the bigboy because of galaxy railways.. but.. if it comes to building big.. id prefer a triplex like this beautiful girl :)

44 Class - Generation 6 : 4427 The most beautiful of bulldog locomotives ive built so far.. as much as I loved the 40 class.. the lands of kerbin are made to be plyed by a 44 class diesel where the lands ahead are clear in view.. every drop and section of harsh terrain viewed way before its reached, planned for and conquered with power and grace the sound of her newly upgraded EMD Hybrid engine screaming and growling at full throttle.. yet singing gently at idle like a content songbird in the morning sunrise all brings her closer to living upto the legend of her sister train 4408 so long ago.. equipt with monoprop nose mounted heading keeping thrusters that draw off the main generator.. diesel electric transmission with monoprop alternator.. roof mounted traction assist and stable lateral drag wheelset.. able to negotiate KSCs taxiways too thanks to the custom 45 degree steering at 10m/s that tapers off safely once speed gains outside of the yard Top speed 36m/s with 500 units of torque on demand Her first real mainline mission will be to rescue fallen sister train 40 class 4016 from Bombo impact crater oasis 80km from KSC if thats not enough.. she has a horn loud enough to wake the dead.. torque and power to pull over 8 fully loaded fuel tankers and a presence that no other locomotive has had since the start of KTP Overland train operations in 2013.. Truly the product of real time years of trial and error... deaths of hundreds of kerbals and many truely wonderful challenging yet enjoyable driving hours from her brethren

Is using F12 (aerodynamic forces overlay) considered as cheating?
Overland replied to EditorRUS's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Its not cheating... But it is harrassment and discrimination.. See the way I see it.. KSP is a steam game mostly...one of the best selling ones... So whoever thought it would be awesome to have ugly blue and red lines grow from your spaceship when you just want to take a steam linked screenshot...I think had thier head screwed on backwards that day.. Yes it can be changed but its an affliction effecting many less savy of the PC master race..Perhaps itlll appear when you press...up... On the xbox edition :) Furthermore.. The ugly yellow text that then without any grace.. Applys itself to said screenshot turning beautiful vistas of trees..trains and mountains into a questionably titled captions.. In my case that trains wont fly willingly nor safely while blue and orange triangles dance around the wheelsets seemingly taunting my poor locomotive that galaxy railways she is not... Saddens me greatly Is it cheating? Well if I wanted to ruin a beautiful screenshot with inapproprate text... I would simply create a meme :) Indeed...perhaps it is one.. Im waiting for the day that the internet is filled with memes..each scribbled with blue yellow and red lines...covered with "aerodynamic forces" display text But...for willingly diagnosing aircraft suitability.. Nope not cheating and why does it matter? ;) -
Fairings destroyed the 4th set of my rover's wheels
Overland replied to More Boosters's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Just about any kerbal can repair a wheel.. Right click it amd hit repair..works fine for me although I do carry most engineer kerbals See repairing a tanker wheel..unless you mean explode? -
I accidentally EVA'd Jeb during re-entry once - he fell from 10km and survived the landing. Later that day, Bill stood up underneath an aircraft, hit his head, and was turned into a fine mist. I actually now attempt to land Kerbals on EVA if I forget parachutes for some reason XD It's actually saved several kerbals, with no fatalities thus far.
This :) Ive had same... Was repairing a wheel on a 40 class loco.. Something clipped the kerbal and it was like the loco hit the sanders.. Alas it wasnt.. Poor train was left idling without a crew in the middle of nowhere.. But reentry..falling from space.. Nope no problem there :)
-
Mechjebs bloody awful at convoys of trains running side by side ..any track seems to be followed only if it wants too and usually seems to turn far too late.. Or too soon so the loco rolls.. KOS is a much more dependable thing for me.. But.. it might just be a train thing.. Seems to get confused with a 60 ton locomotive and 6 tankers more than the old style trijet landliners One of them things that looked to be awesome but didnt quite work.. The only time ive successfully used it is with sitalights KAX radial engine with spotlights on the bottom.. Kept hovering overhead for an artificial sun on demand And.. You know I think rockets and planes are cheating.. All that lovely detailed beautiful land on kerbin and you coldly leave it for the cold blackness of space...or fly over it with a plane.. Wheres the poll for that? Your all cheaters then...ALLLLLLLLLL :)

You Will Not Go To Space Today - Post your fails here!
Overland replied to Mastodon's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Launched my first fully kitted out 44 class yesterday.. Before being given the all important 4428 class number.. Being the 6th generation of locomotive of her kind since 4408s demise.. Like everything she underwent test runs.. 45 degree steering applied.. Generators adjusted.. Everythings going well One problem.. Its late at night and my steering wheels not plugged in Full 45 degree wheel steering all or nothing at 25ms.. She didnt like it one bit... Theres a collection of bogey frames.. Wheels still spinning and a horn littered not far from the end of the runway.. A train...was... Here at one time :(
