I Object to the locking of old posts, such as this thread which is as important as it ever was.. simply due to the nature of scatters.. it shouldnt be locked just because its old but rather be used to even so late in the KSP versions to enlighten others new to the game.. since its an optional setting and one that requires a restart There is most definitely trees in stock KSP, but you need to read the small text down the bottom that says some settings wont take effect until you restart KSP.. sometimes it does work without but generally its best to set terrain scatters to 100%, then restart KSP and just check if its on there isnt trees everywhere randomly.. every area has its own idea of how many trees or what kind of trees.. its changed alot in recent times, I didnt think mine was turned on until I drove around 50km from KSC and ran into a forrest.. some areas are teeming with trees, others bushes.. some just cactii and rocks with the occasional shrub.. it also has a habit of turning itself off sometimes if KSP was closed wrong.. like Alt F4 This is around 60km north of KSC its not perfect.. but its better enabled than not. even if its a bit buggy... as for the memory leak with low altitude flights.. not sure *how* long is.. but I never fly and ive driven 100km in one session and not had a problem.. im using 64 bit windows though. I know how horrible 32 bit windows running KSP can be

All the more impressive when you drive one and it falls to bits when you look at it wrong anywhere outside KSC Look up SXT Trucks mod Works well with wheelsound mod..modded a bit.. Youll appreciate the skill once your own truck rolls and explodes trying to copy it

Challenges also start better in the mission report forum then transition to fan works for each persons challenge See elcano challenge for reference

Its a question I once thought I knew the answer too.. My trains are numbered first by thier class prefix type then thier build number such as 4427 and 4429 are 44 class locomotives and 27 or 29th of that class A railway inspired convention thats given way to numeric names, statements too all of kerbin that THIS locomotive and her crew will subdue kerbin.. Battle terrains extremes and ward off the kraken.. Her running number then becoming history proudly Sadly it also represents losses.. As in modern times its rare to have 2 of the same class running.. And everything since 4404 has been built to replace a lost sistertrain This on the surface sounds simple.. It seems so on paper.. Yet in practise not so easy When a locomotive achieves a milestone.. Emotions..memories get attached to her class number.. As the locomotive gains experience and the kilometres click over.. The train builds a personality naturally like any machine akin to a ship Its then something like 4408, becomes a name not a number in a class.. Something to be remembered and honoured both in visiting former wreck sites...and... Even making a replica or "naming" what should be 4431 as 4408 mk 3 as she starts where her high achieving sistertrain left off..carrying the torch of the elcano challenge So.. Are numbers numbers..are names numbers.. Im not sure anymore.. Its formed its own thing

Its great to see another driver KSP might not be no european truck simulator but kerbins size and beauty makes a challenging and worthy drive Your using jets I know but if your using modded stock wheels or stock alone then install this..it adds sounds to the wheels If you going to use a wheel.. You can use the accelerator and brake naturally..youll hear the wheels spool up nicely.. Having wheels as primary motive power or for starting jet propelled power is always great . In my earliest trains jets were primary power and wheels used at low speed.. Its a great way to start and enjoy kerbins beauty Routes for my trains is a strange thing as sometimes from update to update once flat ground becomes an upgraded green stormy sea.. At the moment im going roughly coastal with inland jaunts.. Avoiding any darker areas of ground.. Still it pays well to stop every 10km to plan the next steps with the map view.. No science to it... Just careful driving EDIT: one important thing for any driver... Music . Put some on .. Let it become part of the experience:) -
Anyone have any KSP Film ideas? (+film questions)

"Kerbin" is a distortion of its original name.. The planet kerbal is its true name.. All that endless green on kerbin.. Is not grass but actually the fabric of kerbal.. A great link of lifeforce that buds like a flower to produce kerbals in the spring The entire planet IS a kerbal.. This explains why KSC is the only building Kerbals are the self aware seed of kerbin.. Using KSC. To venture out into the stars to spread thier race That and when they eat a banana an amazing transformation occurs! Eric kermin IS BANANAMAN! -
What parts do you rarely or never use?
Overland replied to storm_soldier2377's topic in KSP1 Discussion
TR-2L Rugged rover wheels.. They seem to snap off at an alarming rate when pulling a load or breaking.. Not high enough off the ground at all..almost no suspension and even modded for durability.. Never quite live upto a modded M1 rover wheel in the same way -
Might be a little unrelated but it doesme well.. Silent rovers arnt realistic at all.. Rover wheelsound mod works well and is easily modified for other non stock wheels I Wouldnt be without it..lets me know if theres wheelslip.. Adds life to any rover

Experience and style in alot of cases, the early diesels I drove had a 6 wheel driven steering wheelset up front. The rear was 4 wheels The idea was 6 turning wheels would give turning authority for the train. 4408 What happened in reality was on long steep hills climbing the front wheels would slip as the weight of the train dug the rear wheels in..losing traction and horsepower needed to not stall the train.. Steering also became lighter So it became a design upgrade to switch wheels around.. This became a constant style on all later trains since.. Adding traction and climbing ability but also safer braking.. Its rare I use any other wheel arrangement 4429 Most trains have 4 wagons of fuel rarely 5 or more as this represents a balence in weight vs horsepower.. And framerate But also stability.. A 6 car train handles differently.from a 4 car and becomes more of a struggle.. With most of my experience in 4 car trains.. I Know how the trains going to.handle with a new locomotive type.. And ive only got to get used to a new locomotives handling not the whole train.. With 6 cars I tend to forget.. Turn too soon..brake too hard and lead to smashing the wagon off accidently... Starting and stopping power differs greatly too Its been 2 years and counting.. Things evolved.. 4408 is 4429s older sistertrain in the class.. Theres some similar parts and overall look..but generally experience..practicality and function have dictated the style along with class types 44 class being my primary locomotive of the fleet followed by long hood 40 class.. Both are long range locomotives but for visibility and a compact package.. Ill always choose the 44 class Thus the design grows.. 4429 being the latest but with a definate nod to her fallen sistertrains

Ground Vehicle Transport

Try using the regular sized docking port, that tiny one actually physicly pulls away from the part its attached too and rubberbands under load causing problems.. They also tend to push into your tow vehicle under braking They made the docking ports more rigid though in the updates so where the regular docking port used to articulate its now more solid.. Good for space stations.. Bad for us I generally use truss adaptor..then a tiny truss and onto that the docking port..it gives enough articulation with decent auto return centering Also the design you have with the ports angled.. Generally parts wont rotate as such but flex side to side enough to articulate.. The 44 class in my signature being a good example.. Everything works better being level Sadly though there limits to what can be done stock because of the wheel physics 30ms is dangerzone for anything articulated. 25ms is a good cruise Lastly for snaking recovery a few rcs ports with SAS and RCS enabled momentaryly should bring it back into line for the trailer Hardware wise.. Joystick or wheel is best..keys are too harsh..a wheel also makes drives enjoyable The load is rather big though..maybe split between two trailers..3 or.. 4 Then you can call it a train.. Then much awesomeness will follow At this level though powered or alternate powered axels per trailer is a personal choice -
What sort of personalities do the orange-suits have?

jeb is a little different.. In that hes actually not a highly skilled pilot nor is he actually a pilot at all but rather hes the cleaner and part time caretaker of KSC Jebs junkyard? Things hes found in a bad state in the rubbish bin skips and repaired.. Or repurposed. That 44 gallon drum...no no lets paint it white..now its a fuel tank! working in the shadows to gain access to a rocket and then onto space Jeb kermin isnt jeb at all.. But rather nidorf kermin in a stolen spacesuit. All.kerbals look the same KSP command knew no better..so off to space he went Those maniac smiles? A never ending high based on forfilling a dream.. Someone whos only qualification is to not mix bleach and soap -

Does kerb cam still work? Ive been struggling to find a camera waypoint system for a while..any links? Open Broadcasting software does really good too even on lesser hardware..records to flv or stream -
the 4429 and her crew face the sun of a new day.

whats your connection like for upload? I struggled a bit with OBS and twitch until lastnight when I downed the quality to 300kb. is you tube any less demanding?

A few things, Ive been driving since around 0.23 myself too.. Firstly would be I use a steering wheel to drive..the keyboard is far too harsh and any direction changes builds up a wave that terminates at the rearmost wagon.. Eventually leading to destruction The wheels are modded stock from a setting ive stuck with for a while..the locomotive wheels are 1.2 ton each to simulate rail wheels..wagons similar but unpowered They all share an angular drag value of 7 as well which ive learnt coupled with the above steer very nicely if given respect Thats not to say its easy though..a trains a very dangerous machine and must be handled with care and experience For flexability I use a tiny truss behind each docking port then onto the truss adaptor...though they still transfer fuel fine Maximum speed no more than 30 in perfect conditions..25 cruise And always use the wheels.. No cheating with jets... The ones I use are thrustless alternators If your driving electric though Put in the KOS command Lock wheelthrottle to ship:control:pilotmainthrottle. Youll then be able to control wheels by the throttle:) Thanks to someone in the mod forum for that.. Helps many

drove 70km with 4429 as my trial run to restart my elcano challenge (got to get where the old one ended first!) here with a family photo

KAS for xbox then?

I hoped that docking port would work the one stackable in the tube It doesnt It also doesnt work in 1.04 I.tried it..modded it...it still crashed my game Here lies the truth of the matter 1.04 refuses to contaminate itself with a windowed inescapable coffin 1.05 ..... Well.. Im sorry if you cant revert to 1.04 like I can

Sam hall's KN2 kerbonov pack comes with grid fins as well as the well used much loved stockalike Kn2 cockpit with IVA Might be useful.. They dont fold though Its still on curse

I just hope it runs better My current computers old but I believe it serves as a good yardstick.. I get around 10 less fps with the same scenes and parts in 1.05 than I do in 1.04.. Time slowdown happens sooner and in general everything looks the same and it acts the same on lower settings I blame new water physics.. While yes I can and will buy a new PC, it puts KSP on a disturbing path down a slippery slope that many such games have been down Where we end up needing more horsepower to run the same game weve always played.. With a few new features In simpson terms.. Malibou stacy with a new hat I dearly hope they fix it with 1.1 Its sad to say so because I love water physics..boats and paddlesteamers thay could make KSP rival most ship simulators too with the right mods. Wheels would be nice to fix.. But maybe not if they end up needing an i7 cpu if theres more than 4 on a craft

Modeling KSP with Gmax
Overland replied to Reason's topic in KSP1 Modelling and Texturing Discussion
They dont need tracks as such just a good steering wheel and throttle sd40 on tank tracks would be epic Diesel electric land trains were a real thing during the cold war . Its not that far outside of reality -
Or theyd rather pour resources into thier game to make it steam workshop compatable rather than prop up a mod... A good mod granted..but some good mods get made stock as we all know.. Most dont Spaceport went..kerbalstuff wasnt supported..the later being a good sign squad has thier own ideas on the horizon Carving up thier income and lack of action to support a mod as a stab at the community is a bit of a mild insult to good people that gave us...what we too increasingly take for granted Most of us brought KSP once maybe twice..years ago.. Its been a good ride for most. Let it remain so Theres many great mods that almost became fabric of KSP for a large playerbase.. Only a few become stock Kerbalstuff didnt .. Thats all
