Well, those are some cool pics. What have you done to improve the on the Talon designs? Also, my first entry is now online- the Part Clipper-11000! No pics, I'm afraid that you'll have to fight it to get an idea of how it handles.
-
Probably, because it's really just heat IRL. And HARMs, I've gotta add that. Edit: In my own battle, I was finally able to take out both of @ScriptKitt3h's planes without more than a scratch on my own. First time ever, though.
-
Really? That hasn't been a problem with me. I start my planes facing your planes at 8km, and after the AIM-120 salvo (which may or may not kill up to one plane of either side), we close into turret range. The lasers consistently shoot my planes' cockpits, enough that I have to install armor plating and a probe core to control them after the head-ons. You seem to come out of this with one surviving, intact plane.
-
@drtricky, I'd imagine that you'd have a hard time dodging radar missiles with a plane that big. How does it work?
-
I'm so glad to hear that turrets are still allowed. My plane design is progressing, pretty quickly, but I'm having trouble figuring out how to make it evade missiles. I have a feeling that the effectiveness of countermeasures decreases the more you use them (and, correspondingly, the more mounted on the plane), but @BahamutoD can confirm or deny that. BTW, @ScriptKitt3h, your design is pretty good. It can fly without the pilot, so that's an advantage it has. The Lasers are also really effective in a head-on fight.

Guys, I have a big craft request... But it's awesome.
Dman979 replied to SlabGizor117's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Nope, most people are not. It has not been released yet. As to the craft, I don't play Halo, so I'm sorry that I can't help. Good luck! -
Stumped on an orbital mechanics problem...
Dman979 replied to GoSlash27's topic in Science & Spaceflight
I saw that you had posted in a topic called "Stumped on an orbital mechanics problem" and figured that you had posted an insightful answer. I'm scared, now, because you're asking the question. I'd suggest emailing a physics professor at a local college. They like to help people out. -
This'll be fun! I have some questions, though- I'll ask them via PM as I start my design.

If you're falling back down, aim for a higher Apoapsis than your orbit. (BTW, Apollo was ~180x180 km). Once you've passed apoapsis, pitch up, so that your vertical velocity cancels out at the same instant that you reach your target orbit altitude (again). You'll save ∆V because you're not fighting gravity all the way, and it will allow underpowered stages more time to fire.
-
It might be your launch profile, or it might be you're over mass. See if you can find the mass of Apollo 11 at liftoff, and compare it to yours. Also, what orbit are you launching into? BTW, the Saturn V had a takeoff TWR of 1.1. It was a BIGGGG rocket. The third option I see could be the lack of first and second stage inboard engine cutoff.

Ah ha! I was editing my profile picture.

Hey guys, just your friendly GM checking in. It's good to see some more activity on this thread.

Who? WHAT? Eh? You rang? Ummmm.... @ILikeIke?

Hey all, Would someone be willing to make this picture: into an avatar-sized format? I guarantee that there's a replike for you!

Hi @Mare Veris, Oh, you return them!? Mine are permanent 1-3 Kerbal colonies. Not really, though. I plan my missions pretty well, but I like to use KER. Welcome aboard!
-
Oh, it was referring to specific people? I thought it was a template, but we all get confused sometimes. Best, Dman. Sometimes, taking things out of context is most of the fun. Happy landings!
