Pardon my french, but %#$@!*$ you still get 25 fps at 657 parts??? Sir, I would gladly sell off vital parts of my anatomy to have performance like that. My PC would have turned to slag well before I got anywhere near that o.o congrats sir. I kinda feel like KSP is one of those games that I'll never truly be able to run at full speed (without building an entirely separate, and expensive, PC for it).

Here's a rather crazy theory I've been trying to put into words for a while now. I didn't quite hit all the points I wanted to, but some of this stuff is hard to describe. I am by no means a scientists, so I could be 100% backwards on my ideas, but here they are anyway: So, the "Big Bang" occurs, launching matter in all directions, at just under at speed of light. Light travels faster than the rest of the matter, so there is, outside of the "matter sphere" a "light sphere." Beyond the light sphere, there would not have been enough time for light to reach it yet, meaning we have a definable (though undoubtedly complicated) limit to the universe. Theoretically, beyond this, we would find a layer of neutrinos, which would theoretically have moved faster at the beginning, due to being able to "slip" through any other matter with little to no friction. But is it even possible to observe a neutrino in the depths of space? If so, that could theoretically be used (somehow) to get a truly accurate age of the universe. This would (theoretically) be similar to when a star goes supernova: the neutrinos and light are released at the same time, though the former are able to move through the star at constant speed due to their nearly non-existant mass. Light waves (or particles, or whatever they really are) get bounced around by the other matter, effectively slowing them down, and causing them to not appear until after the neutrinos have already jumped ship. Once the light is outside the influence of the star, however, it's free to move at the speed of light towards wherever it may be headed. Okay, so, the nuetrino field is basically a shell around the universe, essentially marking the outer limits. The light sphere is basically the "mantle" of the universe, in that is sits between the observable universe (all the stars, planets, etc we can see) . Unlike the matter sphere, the light sphere is (in a weird sense of the word) solid, in that there is a constant stream of new light being issued. Regular matter just clumps together and forms planets and stars and such. I propose that it would be impossible to observe the Big Bang, unless we are at the very edge of the universe (which I theorize is impossible to reach, being unable to pass the speed of light and all). Inside the universe, the light from that time would have already passed us, and continued racing outwards. No matter how far we look, we could never truly see the beginning: only the ghost of it's existance, only the light that had been generated long enough ago that it only just now had time to reach us. Unless, somehow, we could travel beyond the current limits of the universe, which would involve wormholes or FTL travel. But good luck getting that to work

Awesome!! I've wanted a road system for a long time Any chance you can (eventually) upload a map with the road systems laid out? That'd be epic -
Top Gun AI - The Official Tournament Thread
Slam_Jones replied to RocketTurtle's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Well I guess we have to define "kill" a little better. Is surviving the match considered the same as getting a kill? Not really, right? It's just means you didn't get killed. So I guess the question is, which is more important: shooting your foe, or staying in the air? The two scenarios can coincide, of course, but they're not mutually inclusive. One does not directly lead to the other, but the consequences of one can affect the other. -

I do agree that it's a little silly for the jet with more fuel to (8 times out of 10) be the winner. I still may well make an unarmed plane with 20 mins of fuel an a bunch of countermeasures, to show how silly the rule really is. Although on more than one occasion I've seen an out-of-fuel jet land smoothly without any damage. Should that really count as a loss? -
Interesting. My question is: what would happen if the two twins opened a line of communication between them? If they spoke, would they be speaking at the same rate, or would one appear to be talking like an Ent, and the other like a squirrel? What if they looked at each other's watches? Would the second hand move at the same rate, or would it be quicker? Is it time itself that changes, or merely our perception of it that changes?
-
Wow, you got up to 600 parts? Impressive. I can barely pass 150+ without getting mad at the game turning into a slideshow It's really about how smooth you like the game to run. I suppose I could do more parts, but it bothers me to have such low FPS. So it's all about your preference. Oddly enough, I get a higher framerate in atmosphere (before re-entry effects) than I do in orbit. :|

Top Gun AI - The Official Tournament Thread

If anyone hasn't seen it yet, Keptin's "Basic Aircraft Design" thread has a ton of great knowledge that could be applied towards our jets. I'm reading through it (for the fifth time or so this year ) and getting some great ideas for more maneuverable craft. Also, the drag section no longer really applies, as that's been changed since then... still good concepts to learn, though. -
Please teach me how to plane.
Slam_Jones replied to Tazin's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Absolutely read that tutorial. It explains basically everything you'll ever need to know about basic plane construction. I've been doing jets and SSTO's for quite a while now, and I still go back once in a while to read up on something. It's a truly excellent resource with a lot of excellent knowledge, and the pictures help make the more complicated ideas a lot easier to digest. If you haven't read it yet, definitely do so! You won't be disappointed. You can ignore the part about flat-spins, as I believe 1.0 changed up the way IntakeAir works, and prevents asymmetric flame-outs. I could be wrong, though. Also, the drag system is 100% different from when it was written, but the concepts should still be solid. -
Well, the difference being that a faulty video game is not liable to kill you, while a faulty car is a HUGE liability. If the game doesn't work 100%, you just have some angry customers. If your car doesn't work 100%, you'll have some dead ones... you can decide which is worse Plus, it's much easier to send out a blanket patch to fix some video game issues than it is to physically recall and modify each and every car.

The Gladius made it to the Final! I don't care that it lost, but it made it to the final! *Wooping* -
Here, I went ahead and made 3 pics that should explain how to find the codes for your images. Step 1: Log into Imgur, mouse over top-right where you name is shown (a list box will drop down), click "Images" Step 2: Click whichever picture you wish to share Step 3: Copy and paste the code on the right side Step 4: Profit!

They say necessity is the mother of invention. Scientific progress moves quickly during wartime because it needs to. If everyone is already comfortable, there's no need to go further. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." What we really need is the next "big" idea. Something revolutionary. Something like a truly reliable Em-Drive, or a Perpetual Motion Machine, or someone discovering how to build chloroplast and use it for electricity. Right now, we're pushing the limits of what we can do with our current tech, but what we need is a game changer. Like the difference between a horse and a car. Henry Ford was quoted as saying: "If I had asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses.â€Â

(Is it okay to necro this thread? If not, feel free to delete this post) The fact that the stripes on the Kerbodyne S3-3600 and the Kerbodyne S3-14400 fuel tanks still don't line up :\

Hey man, awesome rover FYI, to post pics on forums, you'll need to use BBCode instead of HTML. Usually the best thing to do is wrap the link in the img tags: [img=...] Imgur usually gives you the needed codes in the sidebar. Click on the pic in Imgur, and the box should pop up, with a list on the right side. Copy the one below BBCode, and paste that. If you don't see the sidebar, look for something that says "get embed codes" or something along those lines. Clicking that usually causes the sidebar to appear. Simply copy and paste the code, and your pics will appear as so: Hope that helps

Top Gun AI - The Official Tournament Thread

A sad day for SlamTek as both jets lose their battles. On the bright side, I added two mini-badges (one for running out of fuel, one for winning a battle) thanks to Kerdinand They're terribly difficult to read, but decorative nonetheless. Also, I would not oppose giving guns a small gimbal range, as suggested before. Missing 100% of machine gun fire is a bit steep. -
"Invert motor" on a wheel
Slam_Jones replied to Sharpy's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Ohhhh, I gotcha. Well, hm, that's not something I've personally tried to do without mods, so I can't really help ya there :\ I do know there are lots of mods with electric propeller parts: Firespitter with KAX. It'll add some old school props, and some new-school ones. If you're looking to do it without mods, well, good luck. It's not an easy (or part-efficient) task as far as I've worked out. -
Yeah, that would never work. The purpose of war is to show your dominance by physically threatening the other guy, whether with bombs or simply displays of force. In a video game, there is nothing at stake. If you lose a unit, you only lose a few pixels and lines of code, rather than a human soul. Without the suffering of war, there would be no war. Yeah, it sucks, but that's the point of war. To make it suck so bad for the other guy that they have to do what you say. If you're a leader, and your people are suffering, wouldn't you want to do whatever is possible to stop it? Is it the "right" way to do things? Of course not. In a perfect world, the cold war would have been settled over a game of Tetris, and WWII by a big Football(soccer) tournament. Instead of invading the Middle East, the US could send over some rally cars and "fight it out" in a friendly off-road race. America could have won it's independence with an exciting game of "rock-paper-scissors." Sadly, that world is not ours.

It's called a texture seam. As Tex ^^ said, it's just where textures don't line up perfectly. Usually shouldn't be as apparent from surface-level (though sometimes they very much are).

"Invert motor" on a wheel
Slam_Jones replied to Sharpy's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Maybe (unconfirmed, but) maybe if you put one of the wheels on upside-down it will function as you intend. I think there's an issue with the wheel collider so it doesn't work upside-down, though... I do know, however, that Squad is working on a whole new set of modules for wheels, (hoping they're in the next update, but I have no idea if they will be) which should make them significantly more user-friendly. Not sure what would happen if you put them all around the probe core, I'm assuming facing different directions. I've had the idea before of having a regular set of wheels, then a perpendicular set that could be lowered (using IR or KAS maybe) so it's could kinda "crab-walk" if needed. I am curious, though, what the intended outcome is? What kind of rover is it/what's it's intended function?
