You know, all of this would be a non-issue if a pop up dialog box was displayed upon running the game for the first time asking for your consent for this data usage to be sent/tracked... you know, I think I've seen something like that somewhere before.

The Minmus Derp's rules and stuff for having a good game
Poodmund replied to The Minmus Derp's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
Couldn't you just have posted... like... a .CKAN file? If you weren't aware, you can post a Metapackage file that acts as a mod list for others to load into CKAN and it will select all the mods you have chosen to be downloaded and installed for the user. https://github.com/KSP-CKAN/CKAN/wiki/Sharing-a-modlist-(metapackages) -
KSP obviously used RedShell to get important statistics on Marketing Metrics to help discern the user's behaviour... I think with the recent public outcry and other games removing RedShell, the decision from SQUAD and other developers to completely remove it has been pretty hasty. All along since 1.4, I have been suggesting to just go back to the way it always had been pre-1.4 and to allow users to toggle on/off analytics tracking (defaulting to opt-out now in this time) as this data is obviously of use to SQUAD to some extent. I think some developers do their consumers disservice and take their intelligence for granted. If you want to add usage tracking to your game to gain insight, do so, but be forward and open about it and how it is operating. Then you'll see uptake. Anywho, I'm personally glad to see the back of how RedShell was implemented within KSP and it's good to see community feedback taken onboard (even if the cynical side of me says that SQUAD had to from a PR side of things considering the other studios doing the same).

CommNet Signal Strength Calculator & Antenna Selector
Poodmund replied to Poodmund's topic in KSP1 Tutorials
As long as your relay craft can talk back to the DSN solely on its 'relay antennas' and your lander craft has enough range to communicate with your relay you should be fine. You can simulate the numbers with these kind of connections but by default the calculator only considers the connection between 2 points. To do this, calculate the Signal Strength (max/min) between the DSN and your main relay craft, then calculate the Signal Strength between your main relay craft and your lander... do this by changing your Required Range value (Cell K7) to the distance between the two vessels. I'd suggest setting this at the max distance for max reliability. Then multiply the two strengths together i.e. DSN -> Relay min strength = 20%, Relay -> Lander min strength = 50%... therefore through connection min strength = 10%(?) I think this is how it calculates the strength. Be aware though that all you need is a 0< Signal Strength to have control to your lander.- 86 replies

Honestly, lost a lot of interest in KSP but its never abandoned until you see a post from me saying this mod is abandoned. I just haven't had the enthusiasm to even boot up KSP and play at all since 1.3.1 hence why I have not updated this for my own gameplay. That is absolutely fine. Images, Photoshops, Stories, fan art... all those kind of things are absolutely fine.

This is actually incorrect but I would forgive anyone believing this, the bottom of the Mohole is actually around 300m above Sea Level, which is higher than the Lowest Point listed above. Granted, the Mohole hole is around 4.6km deep, so it just feels very, very low.

[KSP 1.5.*] Outer Planets Mod[2.2.1] [25 April 2018]
Poodmund replied to Galileo's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Navigate to the Kerbal Space Program\GameData\OPM\KopernicusConfigs\SarnusMoons folder and open Eeloo.cfg. Locate and delete the whole VoronoiCraters node from Line 159 to 199 and then re-save the config and reload the game. That should remove all the additional craters.- 471 replies

CommNet Signal Strength Calculator & Antenna Selector
Poodmund replied to Poodmund's topic in KSP1 Tutorials
Hi Scimas. The whole document was created within Google Sheets and to that note, some functions may not work correctly in Excel (maybe) as the function list between Google Sheets and Excel are different in some areas, however, if you have some Excel knowledge you should be able to trace back the dependency that is causing the issue and change the formula. Which part exactly is causing the issue, do you have a screenshot, cell and formula reference of it? The GPP calculator does not use a 1000 year table because I was too lazy to calculate all these figures for the 30 or so bodies that GPP has. The difference between these two methods is somewhat considerable. Just using the Apo-Peri figures will always give you a larger distance value because the bodies are at the furthest extents and are co-planar. If you just take inclination into account, this is not really representative as you also need to consider the Argument of Periapsis... and then again the Epoch and Universe Time... and at this point you may as well do the calcs to give the figures over a long period of time. Ultimately, just using the Apo-Peri figures will give you worst case scenarios. If someone had super coding skills, you could reference KSP's API on an external site potentially to dynamically calculate all of these distances pretty easily. There was a Discord plugin that hooked into KSP to give the players game status so I am sure it could be possible.- 86 replies

[KSP 1.5.*] Outer Planets Mod[2.2.1] [25 April 2018]
Poodmund replied to Galileo's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Thank you for the heads up, Valerian. That particular portion of text was from the original OPM OP as far as I am aware so it probably needs looking over then. I'll look into how we patch in Planet Shine and update it accordingly.- 471 replies

[KSP 1.5.*] Outer Planets Mod[2.2.1] [25 April 2018]
Poodmund replied to Galileo's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
They essentially point to the same download at the moment, however, OPM Galileo is being frozen on CKAN going forward and we will be continuing the distribution as 'Outer Planets Mod' officially from here on out. So just install that one.- 471 replies

[KSP 1.5.*] Outer Planets Mod[2.2.1] [25 April 2018]
Poodmund replied to Galileo's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
There were only just around 30 downloads of the release at the time and the file has been directly replaced with one of identical filename so CKAN will pick that up for future downloads. If you can't resolve an issue you have with CKAN, delete OPM manually and force install the OPM 2.2.1 package via CKAN's command line.- 471 replies

[1.12.x] JX2Antenna v2.0.5: Giant 1000G antenna for big solar systems
Poodmund replied to Snark's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
A more elegant way of handling this whole thing would be to include something like PatchManager as a dependency and then the user would be prompted on first load of the game with the J2X mod to select whether they want the OPM-revert patch loaded or not. -
@ManeTI as Omaha is experiencing above, I am still not able to upload files to the Wiki and am getting the same error messages. When I queried this on the Wiki support page I was told it was due to the 'Server Migration' but on the previous page of this thread you say that this has been done and is no longer relevant...? Can you help with this issue? Upload error Could not read or write file "mwstore://local-backend/local-public/0/0f/Moho_Biome_Map_1.2.png" due to insufficient permissions or missing directories/containers. Could not store file "/tmp/phpDstUHO" at "mwstore://local-backend/local-public/0/0f/Moho_Biome_Map_1.2.png".

Antenna Range Diagram (stock / OPM /JX2 / GPP / GPO)
Poodmund replied to Kergarin's topic in KSP1 Tutorials
@Kergarin, with the recent update to OPM, the antenna and DSN modifiers were removed so that the stock antenna and DSN power output levels persist, however, a Level 4 DSN was introduced (being the same power as the old OPM Level 3) so that far out comms can still be achieved. Unfortunately this means that your amazing graphic in the OP is now outdated as of OPM v2.2.0. I just thought I'd give you a heads up as these kind of changes are tricky to hear about sometimes. -

[1.12.x] JX2Antenna v2.0.5: Giant 1000G antenna for big solar systems
Poodmund replied to Snark's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Can we not spread misinformation around please? All we have done is, simply, append an extra level onto the existing stock DSN module. All the stock values for Levels 1-3 have been retained. The CustomBarnKit 'vanilla' config can be found here: https://github.com/sarbian/CustomBarnKit/blob/master/CustomBarnKit/default.cfg All the Space Center vanilla values are shown there and are retained by CustomBarnKit unless specifically modified.
