totm june 2018 Work-in-Progress [WIP] Design Thread
pTrevTrevs replied to GusTurbo's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
I am glad to announce that the U-Boat is complete. I'm testing it right now, and I should be able to release it shortly. Main Control Room, looking aft. Fore Torpedo Room, with spare torpedoes. Diesel Engine Room, looking forward. I can say with reasonable certainty that this U-Boat is accurate, all interior compartments have been based on interior views in Silent Hunter 5. The only thing that isn't quite right is the Conning Tower, I may redo it later. -
What is the purpose of the ion engine? Is it the ascent stage for the lander, or some sort of soft landing system for reentry?

Wait... But... No wings, no helium/hydrogen, just engines... How? Did I see that correctly? -

Hyperdrive Ring Test Flight http://i.imgur.com/lkKTSwr.png http://i.imgur.com/imZPyc8.png Can't embed them right now, stupid phone is stupid. I'll try and release it this afternoon, but I want to check to make sure everything works right. I also want to try and use the ring to fly to either Eve or Duna, which might involve adding more fuel. I also plan on adding some device to ensure that the V-Wing is aligned correctly when connected to the ring. -
The Dunatian, Playable Save File (Like a Scenario)
pTrevTrevs replied to selfish_meme's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Just take Kerbals with the appropriate roles and change their names. If you need a Kerbal named Watney, rename an Engineer, if you need Martinez, rename a Pilot. -
It's a little hard to control right now due to the offset CoM, but the SAS can manage. It has about 2,00 m/s of DeltaV right now. Not quite enough to get to Duna, I don't think, but if you wait for a good transfer window, I wager the ring could take you to Eve. I have no idea how to get either the V-Wing or the ring to orbit legitimately. The V-Wing should be easy, it's only 4 tons, but the ring weighs in at over 40 tons. I've just been using hyperedit to launch them separately, then connecting them with the V-Wing's newly installed RCS.

I'm working on a hyperdrive ring for my V-Wing so it can travel longer distances without having to wait several years for ion burns. I need some input on how best to attach the Ring to the ship. I've come up with this. It's sleek, low profile, and only four extra parts. It also has a 1.25 meter docking port, which can be used for attaching to other ships or stations. The only worry I have about this setup is that the Inline docking port's doors like to push around other parts when they open or close. I've tested this, and it doesn't do anything catastrophic, but it does jostle the S-Foil mounts around a little. My other idea was to put a claw on the hyperdrive ring and use that. It would be less parts on both the ring and the ship, and would allow any other ship to connect to the ring (useful if I ever try to build a Jedi interceptor, which also uses the same type of hyperdrive ring). However, the Claw setup doesn't seem very realistic and the pivot feature may be an accident waiting to happen. What do you people think? EDIT: Nevermind, using the Inline Clamp O' Tron just makes the airbrakes jack up the ship when you try and extend them. I think it's time for somebody (SQUAD) to fix the doors on that thing so it can see more use. Anyway, I'm going to have to use the Claw. -
WWII Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress Bomber
pTrevTrevs replied to Columbia's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Are you planning on making a pack of World War bombers? Also, do you think you could make a World War I bomber? Like the Gotha or Handley Page 0/400. Hell, I'll give you rep if you can make a Zeppelin! -
The TWR is probably crap, I haven't measured it yet. It's powered by ion engines, what else would you expect? I considered using the little Rockomax engines instead for more power and a cool exhaust plume, but I went with ion engines in the end because they look more futuristic and are very efficient.

The light is supposed to be the astromech droid, only later did I find out that the droids used on V-Wings were spherical to save room. I've already got two of the larger radial batteries clipped inside the spacecraft, the issue with electrical power is that the four RTGs can't generate power fast enough to run the ion engines constantly. I also kind of like the limited use, it demonstrates that the V-Wing is a short range fighter, but if it become a big enough problem to people, I can fix it. Regarding lag... What lag? This thing is only 58 parts, I don't know of any that are notorious for lag.

The first one is either the Hawker Hunter or the F9F Cougar. The second one is the DeHavilland Venom -

I set extend and retract to two separate action groups, it works fine. V-Wing is up, you can find more pictures and a DL on its own thread. -
I figured it was time to release something, and I had this amazing idea to use airbrakes as S-Foils, so I built a V-Wing! For any heathens who might not know, the V-Wing is a short range interceptor from Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. It was the predecessor to the famous TIE Fighter, and, like its descendant, lacks features such as a hyperdrive, life support, heavy armor, and large weapons in order to achieve a higher speed, more maneuverability, and a lower manufacturing cost. The V-Wing you see here has two ion engines for propulsion, so it is most practical to base these things either on an orbital station or a low gravity body such as Gilly, Bop, or an asteroid. Don't be fooled by this picture of a V-Wing in Munar orbit, this thing is difficult to move anywhere. of course, it has lots of DeltaV, but it cannot generate enough power to sustain its engines for longer than a minute or two. How did I get this magnificent creation all the way out to the Mun, you ask? Well... uh... Hyperedit... Please don't hurt me Here, have some more screenshots, the more you look at them, the less you feel like hurting me. Is good deal. You can pick up your own V-Wing right here! NEW!!! Hyperdrive Ring The V-Wing can now travel long distances, thanks to a new external hyperdrive! Download Hyperdrive Ring Make sure to give me some feedback on how it performs for you, and leave some rep if you enjoyed!

But what if I want them to be able to extend and retract with action groups? Will I need to set a different AG to extend them? It's not really a problem, the only Custom AG being used currently is AG 1, so I have nine others, not including the ones like RCS, SAS, and Lights. -

[1.4.X] Taerobee - Stockalike X-1 and More [27/01/2017]

I think an X-15 would be a nice addition to this pack. It's not really "pre-Sputnik", but it would fit well with the X-1 and Bumper. -

pTrevTrevs replied to GusTurbo's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
I should mention that it can't really fly in the atmosphere. The second picture was taken after a failed attempt to fly it to orbit on a giant SRB with wings. Next time I'll just use hyperedit. As for the airbrakes, they have a strange problem which involves them not responding to action groups. I can't use the default brakes action group because it would prevent me from using the wheel brakes, so I set them to extend/retract with AG1, but when I hit that action group in flight, nothing happens. As soon as I iron out these small bugs and confirm that it can maneuver at least in space, I'll release it. Provided I don't get distracted by Silent Hunter 5 again, I can probably get this out tomorrow or Monday. -

Hmm, it looks a little too long and too curvy to be the Bf-109. are you basing this on orthographic sketches of any kind?
