Phase and ejection angles
Dafni replied to DaMachinator's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
It makes perfect sense to me, thank you. I love me my grav assists... even though a lot of the time the benefits are questionable (time spent fiddling with nodes versus dV safed) I do them a lot. I love deep space probes IRL and to try to copy these things in KSP. At the moment working on an ESA probe that will fly to Mercury in 2018... this maneuver will come in handy. I just never knew you'd call that particular maneuver a reverse assist, but it makes sense I guess. I just call all of them slingshots in my non-english-thinking head. Trading inclination for dV and the other way around. Thanks again. -
@EliasDanger I feel the same! That post made me feel all uneasy when I first read it... partially because @Xannari Ferrows has a point there. But I still loved Ocarina to pieces. Matter of fact, the only game I touched between Ocarina and KSP was Twilight Princess for a bit. I literally put the pad down after defeating Ganondorf and was not interested in games until someone showed me KSP. And now I give my stations and bases Zelda related names still.

Phase and ejection angles
Dafni replied to DaMachinator's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Could you please explain me what a reverse gravity assist is and how to do it? many thanks in advance Daf -
Natalia is new, young. She's lean, sleek. She looks, yet, faster than she is... but her blue skin brings pleasure to many eyes indeed

pretty sure you meant horizontal speed, right? And yeah, getting into orbit is all about horizontal speed indeed.

It makes it tricky, maybe even awkward, but definitely not impossible. People do SpaceX style booster landings in KSP, and I have seen more than one way of doing that (if you like KSP streams I can give you two examples: EJ_SA style, ghost riding the second stage to PE while you land the booster, or like MatoroIgnika does it, let the booster fall by itself after the boostback burn while you fly the 2nd stage to circularization, and then switch to the booster and land)

There is no such thing as best engine, at least not best overall. There might be a best engines for a particular job/scenario. If you are talking about favorite engine, that is a different matter altogether. I myself like the Aerospike and the Vector a lot, both a nice mix for atmo and vacuum. I'm also a big fan of the Puff engine on smaller craft.

A guy from work kept going on how I would love that game, space and all that... I told him I dont play videogames anymore. Went on like this for almost a full year before I gave in. He sent me the Build Fly Dream trailer and that did it for me. Played the demo, bought the game, went looking for a better computer within the next few daiys after Build Fly Dream. Guess I started because I fell in love, somehow. I love building stuff and I love space exploration. KSP just filled a gap I never knew existed, a perfect aftertime, someting to wind down.

Z-fighting shadows
Dafni replied to Majorjim!'s topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
On some of my latest craft this ugly shadow flickering is very severe, up to the point where it spoils the whole experience. Do you guys have an idea what graphic settings I can try to make this a bit better? I play completely stock at the moment, and I feel the graphics were somewhat smoother for me before 1.1.over all. Thanks -
When you land it on a surface? I'm no native English speaker, but I call all landed stations bases and all orbiting bases stations Like the ISS or the LEM when it was on the lunar surface (Houston, this is Tranquility Base, the Eagle has landed. etc)

it did indeed nice post, Overland. So poetic, so fitting. Glorious

I cant help you as such, just give some advice for the future: maybe you should start to play the game off a different folder than the one steam puts it into. This way you can keep all the previous versions you want, just get the new version out of the steam folder whenever there's an update. Just a thought. Steam lets you copy the game to any directory you want.

I saw that too and had a little giggle to myself. The game is full of references like that.

I have always been a bit of a space nut, fell in love with the shuttle around 1986, and followed all the probes and rovers ever since (not an easy thing before the internet) I gave up playing video games 20yrs ago... and then a friend from work shows me this game and I felt like it was made for me. Bought a better computer and here I am.

Z-fighting shadows
Dafni replied to Majorjim!'s topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
I have this too, but did not report anything as I thought its a bug of scatterer. But now that I went to check it is definitely present in a completely stock install too. Thanks for bringing this up, it is quite ugly and I hope there is a fix. -
Should KSP have a Delta-V readout?
Dafni replied to bsalis's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
You do this too? Nice. We should exchange our stock wind tunnels and force measuring rigs one day. -
cheers, mine too

New version is good, so far. But like others said I wish the Ranger had the performance like it once did (IMO it should be able to land and take back off from most planets), and the Lander had the looks it once did (that compressed looking stub look is not nice at all IMO). The biggest gripe I have at the moment is with the game itself though. I wish to test the mod some more, but KSP keeps crashing on me (the crashes are definitely not related to this mod) and this kills my fun. @JPLRepo sorry man, KSP gives me too much of a headache lately for any extended testing sessions. Hope the next patches fixes it a bit and I'll be back at your service.

Vertical Velocity - how to VTOL
Dafni replied to genericeventhandler's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
Sorry, cant help you with a mod, but I recommend getting a joystick and some practice. This way you start to develop a feel for each craft and learn how to tweak and improve them. -
No idea why @MedwedianPresident had to necro this thread, but yeah, welcome, I'm in switzerland too!

cool, looking forward to this! thanks for the update
