Mannequin Skywalker's got the high ground now!

This escape motor firing will be interesting... The screen on the seat really should have a button to switch to metric units...

"RSS H. G. Wells" printed just above the hatch!

I woke up at 7:30 sharp and was disappointed because I was trying to wake up at 8:30 to see the webcast over breakfast. Now since its been delayed it doesn't really matter.
-
I can't wait for the day when I have two live launch webcasts open on my computer at the same time.

I want to see raw footage of the descent right from the fairing.

That moon would extend about a third of the way across the runway in KSP if you set it there.

New Radio Image of the Galactic Center
cubinator replied to daniel l.'s topic in Science & Spaceflight
What is the scale of the image? -
After boring a tunnel with what is designed to be the most advanced machine on the planet for the purpose, lining it with a remote-controlled RGBLED strip would be a piece of cake. No reason not to make a simple light show for passengers to enjoy. In fact, this sort of lighting is probably less epilepsy inducing than the florescent lights from before due to being continuous. Much easier on the eyes.

Ladders can't possibly work like that. They are floating in midair! The image is manipulated.
-
How many still-usable Falcon 9 boosters are they ever going to discard after this one? I think they can afford to discard this one if necessary for the very important crew milestone.
-
When a rocket necessitates a crew abort, I'll be very impressed if any part of it besides the cabin can be salvaged.

Sometimes, if you can hang out with them, you can start to make them smarter just by letting them ask you about things.

You mean the millions of planets with glass rain. -
This has been around for some time... http://superliminal.com/cube/cube.htm

Probably this one: Although I'd be happy to visit just the first one.

Remind me to listen to this at some point when I'm over 1 million miles away from Earth: -
Bad science in fiction Hall of Shame
cubinator replied to peadar1987's topic in Science & Spaceflight
I've made a thread where we can take the discussion of 4D objects. -
This is a topic that branched out of the Bad Science in Fiction thread, and I feel it appropriate to dedicate a thread to it. While our brains are very stubborn in interpreting shapes in exactly three dimensions, we can learn a lot about how 4D objects would look and behave by looking at their 3D cross-sections and shadows. These are hypercubes: Try to see each cubic cell connected to the others by faces, just like square faces are connected at right angles to form a cube. This is close to what a hypercube would look like from an actual 4D perspective, in which your field of view is a volume rather than a plane.

Bad science in fiction Hall of Shame
cubinator replied to peadar1987's topic in Science & Spaceflight
When both sides of the argument are true it makes it about point of view...which is somewhat difficult to grasp in more than three dimensions! Definitely a worthwhile discussion in this case. -
Bad science in fiction Hall of Shame
cubinator replied to peadar1987's topic in Science & Spaceflight
No, you don't. This drawing of a cube is inaccurate in exactly the same way as the tesseract: Except it looks just like a cube, and you can tell it as such. Similarly, these images of a hypercube are exactly what you'd expect a wireframe to look like if you could see in four dimensions. -
Yay bricks!

Bad science in fiction Hall of Shame
cubinator replied to peadar1987's topic in Science & Spaceflight
That doesn't matter in this context, because nothing about the tesseract is based in reality for this scenario. A drawing of a tesseract shows perfectly well what it is and isn't, and shouldn't require a disclaimer that it is a drawing.
