Staying stock is no option unless you want to have huge part counts or look like a cheap comic book. I'm more into real-life rocketry and low part counts. The Orion and basically all the parts in these crafts are in the SSTU mod. It has all the parts you need from engines to tanks to capsules to landers to a large selection of real-world engine types. All the parts are based on NASA components from the past to the present. Really awesome, you'll never look to stock parts again It's in beta, but I have been running them for several versions now without any issues. Tonight I recorded a complete Lunar mission with the Ares I and V, just need to edit it all and make a comprehensive video. It will showcase the two Ares rockets above. I'll add the Ares V later tonight.

[1.3.0] Inline Ballutes [IB] (v1.2.8) [30.05.2017]
Jimbodiah replied to riocrokite's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
The ropes hold, but the thing overheats until it explodes. These are only usable on Duna, but you don't really need them there.- 220 replies

I just did a whole run of Ares I and Ares V lunar missions, and the Scatterer and EVE effects steal the show Will take me a while to edit the video though (slingshot past the earth and barely enough fuel to get back, had to do an aerobrake orbit to slow down and do final decent on 2nd orbit, will all be cut out of the video so it will seem like a perfect return ).

[1.7.2] KK Launchers - Delta, Atlas Pack
Jimbodiah replied to Kartoffelkuchen's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Is it possible to make the engine cluster into a single piece? -
I love EVE with Scatterer on the stock system, my only wish is to fly in a real solar system without all the extra sizes or the RO packs as I love the real planets and their RSS textures and flying real rockets with mods like SSTU/FASA/SpaceX. If you guys could make a config for S^3 and RSS than I think a lot of people would be happy. RSS itself look so fake with just the plastic textures, there is no depth or realism.

yeahyeahyeah, that's the one... Me wanna build!!!! Will build a few with SSTU parts I have now and change them later. The Direct is basically an Ares V with different engine cluster by the looks of it. LOL, Ares is DIRECT :))) I just noticed they have different engine clusters from 2-4 engines, that is what threw me off.

An Apollo suite would be cool, means I can do without FASA. Direct engines: You mean from th DIRECT mod or are they called that in real life? It's the 4 engines in-line, found under the Jupiter rocket proposal. The Direct mod has one, but uses a copied shuttle engine version and is 5 parts in total. One of the reasons I don't like the SpaceX pack is that they have 9 engines, so their Heavy version is 3x9 parts + 3 adapters for just the engines. Saturn/Nova: Would love them Working on a Saturn V right now, but the tank lengths make it look funky. BTW: Those russian rockets are another reason for a slanted nose cone version on LF tanks

I have Small Solar system installed and renamed the planets in the cfg names like below, but for some reason they do not work. Any ideas? Or just not supported? Running S^3 Small Solar System, EVE and Scatterer. Works fine on stock solar system (awesome looking!). Item { celestialBodyName = Earth transformName = Kerbin loadDistance =50000000 unloadDistance = 100000000 } Item { celestialBodyName = Mars transformName = Duna loadDistance = 50000000 unloadDistance = 100000000 }

In fear of asking something that is already there... Is there a Jupiter style engine mount?
-
Are there any mods with the blue origin ship(s) ? Can only find SpaceX, but nothing on BO except an engine.
-
Got EVE and Scatterer to work today, thanks for the tip. Looks amazing now :)))) [edit] only for earth though, mars and venus show no clouds/atmosphere even though I changed the names in the same cfg files as Kerbin.

Squad is all about "adding more boosters"

Doing some plugging for SSTU in my spacecraft exchange topic http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/index.php?/topic/126830-jimbodiahs-nasa-rockets/

Trying to use Imgur for the pictures, but it sucks kerbals.

I have removed all the links as they have been updated and placed in a different topic here. So... I am into SciFi as well as realistic rockets, so thought it would be cool to try and duplicate some famous NASA rockets of the past and present. Hopefully I can showcase some nice builds in this thread for everyone to enjoy. I tend to use quite a number of mods, so i will list dependencies with each craft. Note that I almost exclusively use SSTU for the parts for this series as it contains configurable parts to keep part-count as low as possible. Each .craft is ready to launch; it has been staged and custom action groups made where relevant. Screenshot showing off SSTU's version of NASA's Orion platform on which most of these builds are based. Links to mods: - SSTU Labs [link] Low part count modular components for all your rocket-building needs. - FASA [link] Real-world replica's of famous NASA rockets like Apollo and Gemini, tons of custom parts Standard action groups: - "Abort" will use the LAS to separate the capsule (you will need to deploy chutes manually) - "1" will eject cargo/CSM fairings, extend solar panels and turn on cabin lights Mods I use (but not required for these .crafts unless otherwise noted) - EVE (Environmental Visual Enhancements). Adds beautiful cloud layers to Kerbin, Duna, Eve, Jool and Laythe - Scatterer. Adds haze and water textures to give a sense of depth and realism - Chatterer. Adds cool coms-chatter and bleeps/blips to liven up the otherwise silent game play. - MechJeb. Mechjeb is life. Does all the tedious stuff like flying rockets - Kerbal Reinforced Joints. Keep the Kraken at bay. - Procedural Fairings. Automatically creates fairings in the shape needed. Delta IV Heavy with Orion (EFT-1) UPDATED 8-feb - requires SSTU 0.3.28-pre2 - 14 parts link removed SLS (Block 1) UPDATED 8-feb - requires SSTU 0.3.28-pre2 - 16 parts link removed Ares I (Constellation Program) UPDATED 8-feb - requires SSTU 0.3.28-pre2 - 12 parts The Ares I and Ares V form a pair of rockets in a new Lunar mission proposal. The Ares V will send the Lunar lander into a low earth orbit together with the stage that will send it, and the Orion command module, to the moon. The Ares I will follow the Ares V and send up the Orion capsule together with the crew for the Lunar mission. More info can be found here. link removed Ares V (Constellation Program) UPDATED 8-feb - requires SSTU 0.3.28-pre2 - requires Procedural Fairings - 30 parts Launches the EDS (Earth Departure Stage) and the LEM (Lunar Excursion Module) link removed Saturn V (coming soon) - requires SSTU 0.3.28-pre2 - xx parts Do I need to explain what this one does? link removed Jupiter III NEW feb-8 - requires SSTU 0.3.28-pre2 - xx parts Super heavy lifter using two shuttle main tanks with boosters for the first stage. This is an interesting design with 3 stages in a unique setup to reduce height. link removed
