Hi. I know this as been suggested before. I was doing a space walk the other day (well indirectly anyway) (1.8.1) and thought "Hey, maybe there was an update and I don't know about it". And, no. A kerbal still can't grab a docking port and enter the craft that way. It would be nice. Thank you for reading this, ME

Thanks @Geonovast All is solved. My PC was getting slower and weirder all the time. Until it failed altogether. I reached in my drawer for parts and got out another drive a Terra (I always inherit old computers from family). The failed one 500Mb wont even mount (I tried to mount it as secondary to retrieve pictures). It spins but something is obviously wrong with it. I will keep it for a short while until I am convinced it will not heal itself. On a re-install I always re-install on a different drive and retrieve my files from the original. Not having a PC to download Linux I used what I had (The CD). I am now running Linux Mint 19.2 and KSP 1.8.1 just started. The install was the same as always but this time it asked for installing 3rd party software and drivers. My previous one (17.1) had not. That's the only real difference I saw in the install. Now to get the backup drive connected and get picture albums from years past. Thanks again. I am not sure I would have checked to find if there was a newer better Linus out there. ME PS. Memory. Yes. My memory is a bit low and there is too much swapping. My biggest hangup is the video card. Full screen or looking at Kerbin the game lags. Looking toward the Skybox all is well. A new computer isn't in in my foreseeable future.

Reasons? No real reasons. I had the CD for 17.1 already. The update manager suggested an update to 17.3 (Naively I thought that would be the latest). I will go looking for those more current versions....But it ran before. Puzzled. Intel i5 CPU 750@2.67GHZx4, 3.4GiB, HD 957.2GB (Using less than 1/3) I do not know what DE mean nor how to change drivers. I will go and get 18.3 AND 19.2, try them both. Thanks.

Hi all. Sorry but I need help again. My PC crashed yesterday Linus Mint 17.1 the game (Both 1.7.3 and 1.8.1) ran great straight from the file. So, new install of 17.1 then upgraded to 17.3, because. I get KSP 1.8.1 and it fails to run. Tried getting a new "Uncorrupted version". Still fails. Tried running from different user. Fail. Tried downloading and running 1.7.3. Fail. I run two monitors. I tried starting from either. Fail. I tried running from the launchers, x86, x86_64. Exact same fail. What I see is a window growing and shrinking too fast to observe. No messages, no log is created. I really don't want to revert to Linux Mint 17.1 just to see. Don't quite see the point. I could live without playing KSP ......., but , you know. Why? I have Linux mint 17.3, 64 bits installed, dual monitors. Any ideas or input? Thanks for reading this. ME

Roots. 1000 equals one thousand roots. Kerbals are obviously vegetarians and trade roots. ME

"Rear-view" Camera?
Martian Emigrant replied to StrandedonEarth's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Hi, I like that. One of my bane is looking at a ship and doing an EVA. The Kerbal is always on the other side and the whole camera as to be rotated. Grump. Your magic button would be used by one such as me. ME -
Capture the Kerban
Martian Emigrant replied to TedJet Aerospace's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Yup. They can board the chair again and come back home. The first time I had tourists on EVA was after a crash. Then I spun the craft intentionally on the ground to release them. Just now I tried this: I am running 1.7.3 Vanilla with MechJeb as the only mod. ME -
Capture the Kerban
Martian Emigrant replied to TedJet Aerospace's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
The OP should of course do it first but.... Actually I have experimented with tourists and, yes, they can go on EVA in space, on surfaces and walk around. In 1.7 anyway me think. I will make a short vid to demonstrate. Easy to do. ME -
Well you are right or partially anyway. I sent a miner to the asteroid. It started at 8t total with 6.9t of ore @87% After mining it was the same size, 1t, no resources. The ship and asteroid floated 11m higher (I jettisoned the ore). When released it sank. So I guess a very rich asteroid totally mined should float. And be cheaper to move around the solar system. ME

Hey all. This morning I landed (Splashed?) an asteroid that was captured yesterday. And the asteroid isn't buoyant. It sinks. I saw a video long ago of someone doing the same and the asteroid floated.... Has the density of asteroids changed at some point? Is there a density scale so that larger ones float? ME

Today A few daring Kerbals got to Eeloo for science. ME

@Cheif Operations Director Yes, it would be funny, I guess. For some. For a while. But I disagree that we should use the name of living people on public buildings, bridges, etc. That should include games. You see living people aren't done being alive and as much as they are popular now they will change. Some will stay known and popular. Some will get to be controversial and yet stay popular. Some of them later get trashed by history and you need to change the name of that child, bridge, library, highway, moon.... ME

I used to be a pilot and I always hated the IVA looks because of the layouts. Flying our contraptions from the inside like a flight simulator would be great. Alas. Since we got a ground altitude readout I don't go IVA at all any more. The only reason for me was for a quick peek at the Radalt (Radar Altimeter). Yes, "Normal" layouts put all the primary instruments in front of the pilot to minimise head movements. ME

The Direct Ascent Challenge!
Martian Emigrant replied to Jodo42's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Thank you. The pole position won't last long. There are points? I am unclear on how to score over 400 points. if one wants Mun and minmus (36+24)=60. Does one do two missions (IDTS) one mission with two un-reusable landers (IDTS) one mission with the same landers (IDTS) one mission with the same landing whole ship (Ay caramba for the grand tour) ME -
The Direct Ascent Challenge!
Martian Emigrant replied to Jodo42's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Hi. This is my submission. (Mission haha funny) 19.3 KiloRoots, 34.5 Tonnes, 46 parts, vanilla. Departure leaving Kerbin Orbiting the Mun Jeb working on the surface And going home Return trajectory plotted All done Thanks, ME -
Hi. Maybe I should have posted two different entries but here we are. I know someone will say there is a mod for that. My first one is a personal peeve. When a vessels chute as been deployed we see an empty cannister that can be repacked. When a personal chute is deployed it looks the same....Can we have the visual changed? I find it really annoying to see a Kerbal hanging in the air with an intact chute. The other one is can we get Kerbal foot restraints? As opposed to putting the Kerbals in a chair. It would allow better looking IMUs, putting Kerbals on robotic arms, etc. Of course that open the possibility of Kerbals being launched to space holding on by their feet. To counter that could we have a hold-limit of say 0.1g or 0.2G to make them fall off. And or an aerodynamic load. High enough to be used in space, Gilly or Minmus but not on the Mun nor Kerbin. Thanks for the reading and the consideration. ME

Today Jeb went to the KSS to take command of the Erector. After figuring an intercept. He made it to the OSS And went right to work on finishing the station ME
-
Yes, but can it do a Crazy-Yvan?

Hi @Nich Not sure about the Lagrange points. But do you mean the Mars cycler? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mars_cycler It works for other bodies as well. I remember reading about...(So vague now)....a moon probe maybe Japanese that was in the wrong orbit with not enough delta-V. They consulted a math-physic-guy who figured how to ride the ridge of gravitational wells. The probe was sent to hover between the earth and the sun and the moon before falling on the moon side with fuel to spare.... As I type this I researched it and it was the Hiten probe. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hiten I think you mean a "Ballistic capture" or "low energy transfer". Apparently developed by Edward Belbruno and James Miller of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory

The last few days Jeb as been ferrying crews to the KISS in a variety of ships. The Dream Runner The SPlane Here Bill is trying to figure out why the Viper refuse to get any closer to the docking port. He could fly unimpeded between the ship and port....Go figure. The CTV The Orbitron And finally the Guppy
-
Jeb accompanied by Bill did another test flight on the Dream-Runner. To a new destination this time. The newly uploaded Adam's ISS. Jeb: It ain't easy parking backward using the rear-view mirror. Bill: Hey Jeb. You parked 90° off the stations alignment. Jeb: I know. Jeb: I did it on purpose. Jeb: Cause that's the way I am. Again survived re-entry. I have to work (With help from Bill of course) on improving it's flying characteristics. ME
-
Today, well last night. Sent Jeb to the High-Lab with the new Dream-Runner. We'll need a bigger station. Somehow, surprisingly, survived re-entry....And a splashdown. C of G and control issues to be worked on. ME

Hi @traxtor I think it as to do with the having to track all your hundreds of ships and debris at the same time. The game just puts everything on rails. Easier that way. And about that. One of my little frustration is having a ship refuelling with an ISRU. It takes a long time so off to the station to warp time (The game won't know that there are night cycles and let the ISRU work full time). Simple enough. But the station also doesn't update the mass of the ship so you don't know when it's fully loaded. You have to be generous with time before going to go look (Have to remember to go peek daytime over there). And have to leave your little Kerbals extra months or years on some moon. Maybe miss a transfer window. C'est la vie. ME

I don't think so. ME
