Hey all. Not an expert here. But. I have left ships in orbit of Duna only to have Ike fling them out to orbit the sun. So, yes, SOIs affect orbits. I don't think ships on rails can collide with worlds they just stay on the rail. I don't think the algorithms take planets surfaces or atmosphere into account. I am confident that if you see yourself entering an atmosphere to your doom that you can save, go to the tracking station, warp, and look at it fly out the other side then jump back to said ship. All without aero or lytho braking. Or take control of another ship as long at it is out of physic range (Something like 22km) for the same effect. ME

Hey all. Yesterday, I finished a career play but took a contract just because I like doing landings with an actual target. New Guy flew an OP lander to Minmus to rescue Newer Guy still. Funny thing. The pilot (Sole occupant) seem to sit in the right seat like an helicopter pilot. Not that that matters. But the throttles are on the left and out of reach.... Oh. Another thing. After countless mission to moons and planets. I forgot parachutes.....Again. Can't seem to learn. But it worked out. NG bailed and parachuted safely while NGS (Who didn't have a parachute) bailed from the top hatch and flailed safely in the ocean. He hit at about 55 m/s. I didn't try taking control of him. He was horizontal face down when he "Landed". ME

Today. Jeb flew a Stock-throttleable-Kraken-Ship to the Mün and back. ME

Hi. Not an expert by a long shot here. That reminds me of something that happened to me a long time ago. In atmosphere but perhaps it is relevant. Can't remember if it happened to the crewed part or the uncrewed one. I was dropping cargo via parachutes and I would loose stuff. It had to do with having two independent ships and while you are focussing on one the other one drifts (Fly) out of physic range and the game deletes it as being cumbersome debris that is going to crash anyway. I think the range is 22.5km....Or something like that. The solution was to circle and wait for the cargo to be "Landed". Were your ships in a tight group? One last thought. Have you checked if the ships are now listed as debris? The ships were crewed have you checked the astronaut complex to see if the crews are listed as active or missing? The crews can be available, active, lost (Missing). ME

Hi all. Thanks for reading. Can we get a dummy? When making ships with a command chair sometime when you launch you get a kerbal with stuff clipping into him. The dummy in the VAB would allow us to build around him. We could of course use him outside the VAB for those trials that would be dangerous to our precious Kerbals. Who like to see Jeb die over and over again anyway? I imagine him as being a non moving (Limp) helmeted Kerbal skinned yellow with targets as dummy usually have. Hey, there could be two variant. The cheap one in yellow and the science one in red with sensors. Contracts. Put a dummy in space. Crash a dummy on the Mün. Recover dummy and test article to Kerbin. Eck you can carry him back in a cargo pod or in a seat. Maybe Bill can weld him to the outside of the ship. Thanks, M E

The "build your way home" challenge
Martian Emigrant replied to dnbattley's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Hi. Here is my rescue mission from Duna. Val and Bill Stranded on Duna. Part ship being readied. Deorbit Bill at work The back pack can't make you fly on Duna but you can jump pretty high with one. Departure after checking crossflow and staging. Staging Orbit and fuel management Departure from Duna SOI and fuel management Planning encounter with Kerbin Fixing fuel issue. A crossflow was not enabled. And course correction Capture and lowering orbit Burning retrograde till fuel exhaustion Lower atmosphere ME -
The "build your way home" challenge
Martian Emigrant replied to dnbattley's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
That is messed up (The VAB part not the lawn chairs part). I have been working some more on the assumption that it uses local vertical and local north.... It makes for building mutiparts-homebuilt-spaceships hard to balance....And to fly straight. I have tried and tested a DIY ship on Duna surface with enough Delta-v to make it to Kerbin. The trial went well with only one decoupler hanging onto Bill's head for a moment before falling down to Duna. I will work on doing the deed in one gameplay and come back with a diaporama of the events. ME -

The "build your way home" challenge
Martian Emigrant replied to dnbattley's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Hi. Thanks. I have been playing with returning 2 Kerbals from Duna and the "Engineering mode" is a pain for a more complex ship. The symmetry is a problem. So far (I admit I haven't looked really deep into it) it looks like when you pull a part with an arrow it seems to use local vertical as opposed to part vertical and parts are then offset... Plus the parts below move as if relieved from the weight of the part being moved. Again compounding symmetry issues. A bigger problem with an atmosphere. Anyhoo I will be working on a simpler design (Actually I have already but have not try building it in situ). And if all else fail I will try to find some place that is flatter for the build. Just a comment. I have reread the original post and there is no mention of a command pod. Therefore my decision to use command chairs. Using a command pod doesn't make it impossible. Just harder. One could build a command pod tipped ship that makes it to orbit and several refuelling/rebuilding drones that could rendezvous with it. So a much more complex ship could then be built in orbit. Or perhaps build a command chair thing-a-ma-bob for Duna to Ike. Then build a command pod ship there for the return to Kerbin. ME -
Hi all. How close can you keep your Kerbals when they bail out? Points? I don't know. Say 100 divided by the minimum distance achieved. I do not know the size of a canopy. A Kerbal is a meter high. So I earned about 100/8m=12.5 Show your skills. Have the Kerbals actually touch. Stand on the other guys (Gals) chute. 3 Kerbals? Wow. Impress me. ME

The "build your way home" challenge
Martian Emigrant replied to dnbattley's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Hi all here is my rescue mission. Jeb and Bill are stranded on the Mün. Part ship in Mün orbit. 62m doesn't get better than that for me. Thanks. See you later. Plenty of sunshine for the ions. Nice low circular orbit. That ain't so hot. Time to bail Kerbals always stick together. Where is that chopper? ME -
I know that one. How do contact lenses stay on your face? A liquid film. They have googly eyes and the glasses just sticks to them. ME
-
Just looked at that pic closer, they have name tags and bill is upside down without glasses. Bob is doing a squat dance and has glasses. Of course. Scientist are nerds and need glasses. I guess. ME
-
Yes,,,,, I have vague recollection of seeing a promo picture of Bill or was it Bob with glasses. ME

Warp to sunrise - but not quite...?
Martian Emigrant replied to Daniel Prates's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Different jurisdiction define sunrise as a few different things. Be it for a pilot or say a hunter. When I used to fly "A day" would begins one half hour before Civil Sunrise (The centre of the Sun's disc is 6 degrees below the theoretical horizon) to one half hour after Civil Sunset. But I agree that a day should be earlier in the game than after its high up. Should the Sun be on the horizon or 90° to the longitude of the observer. Not sure I phrased that right. Just nitpicking. for fun. An observer on Kerbin is 600,000m from the center of Kerbin. Like being on a mountain you would see the sun sooner.... Hey.....Is that why the sun seem so high then? ME -
Hi all. Today I sent the usual trio to Duna. 3 simulations were done and it always worked out. Not this time. Poor Bob. Even is flag pole was defective. But fear not. The magic gyros and a bit of RCS got the return ship upright again ME

Hey all. Today I sent a Kargo Kraken to the KSS. Followed shortly by a Krew Kraken ME

How do Kerbals take off their helmets?
Martian Emigrant replied to cyberKerb's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I did't know that. -
Congrats. Now you get to see how difficult it is to get off Eve.
