The Linux compatibility thread!
sal_vager replied to sal_vager's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
Sorry Mulbin, been away, okay the very easiest way I know of to do this is to install synaptic (yeah I'm lazy when it comes to the command line) You can do this in the terminal "sudo apt-get install synaptic" or from the software center. In synaptic you can search for nvidia and get a nice list of all the nvidia drivers in the repo, plus the nvidia-settings, so it becoms really simple to select the ones you want and install. -

Mulbin, if you install nvidia-settings-(yourversionnumberhere) to get the settings for the driver -
Hi DarkStar64, welcome to the community How's the view from out there?

This is more conspiracy theory than science, or outright hoax at least. The only signal received so far that may be of extrasolar origin is the Wow signal, and there's no way to know for sure.

We have five new threads of particular note to take us up to Christmas and the new year, nothing Xmas themed yet but we'll see what we get for a possible Xmas thread special Recent updates brought us R&D, so it makes sense to have a thread on research, so congratulations go to rottielover and his thread on how to Science! Many challenges involve a single craft or event, but there is a lot of fun to be had with larger projects, so why not practice your planning skills and try sturmstiger's Duna Permanent Outpost Mission Architecture Challenge? I'm a minimalist pilot myself but I can appreciate big designs, especially ones as impressive as those from Exothermos' Rubberband and Duct Tape Emporium. check out his SSTOS, Weird Space Ships, and more today, buy two and get a free pairing knife! Everyone likes a good story, and HippieGold's CONCORD: Storm in the Stars is definitely one to check out, there's even pictures so Mods like me can follow along Moderators are members and players too, and they even contribute, and sometimes those contributions really stand out, so a big thanks goes to stupid_chris for his music thread in the Space Lounge, so what music do you listen to? That's all for now and thanks to everyone who makes these forums so great, all you guys and gals Now I'm off to make orbital Christmas trees

(Noob) How to build pre-connected docking ports.
sal_vager replied to 2-Zons's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Hi 2-Zons Treat them much like decouplers, you just need two facing each other, the side with the hatch, window and little yellow handle is the front and they are androgynous meaning there's no male and female ports. Something to know though, you can't dock a craft to itself in the editor, meaning you can have a part with 2 ports and another with 2 ports but you can only make one port attach, every part can have only one parent part, it's how the game works. -
I may have linked to this before, but it's a pretty good explanation of why faster than light makes no sense.

Please don't suggest people jump off buildings Jim DiGriz, it's not funny :/

Not sure about this, which thread in particular? And there's a few boards that are closed, they are old and shouldn't be used, but Gameplay Questions isn't one of them. Edit: Oh I see it, hold on guys Edit2: Fixed it

Hmm, I think we're going the wrong way with this, can you open terminal in the same folder as KSP and type ./KSP.x86 ? -

sal_vager replied to sal_vager's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
Okay it could be the libs then, these are all the libs that the LDD command says my KSP.x86 is using: linux-gate.so.1 => (0xf77aa000) libGLU.so.1 => /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libGLU.so.1 (0xf76e0000) libGL.so.1 => /usr/lib32/nvidia-319-updates/libGL.so.1 (0xf75d8000) libX11.so.6 => /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libX11.so.6 (0xf74a0000) libXext.so.6 => /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libXext.so.6 (0xf7488000) libXcursor.so.1 => /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libXcursor.so.1 (0xf7478000) libdl.so.2 => /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libdl.so.2 (0xf7470000) libpthread.so.0 => /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libpthread.so.0 (0xf7450000) librt.so.1 => /lib/i386-linux-gnu/librt.so.1 (0xf7440000) libm.so.6 => /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libm.so.6 (0xf73f8000) libgcc_s.so.1 => /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libgcc_s.so.1 (0xf73d8000) libc.so.6 => /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libc.so.6 (0xf7220000) /lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0xf7788000) libstdc++.so.6 => /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libstdc++.so.6 (0xf7130000) libnvidia-tls.so.319.60 => /usr/lib32/nvidia-319-updates/tls/libnvidia-tls.so.319.60 (0xf7128000) libnvidia-glcore.so.319.60 => /usr/lib32/nvidia-319-updates/libnvidia-glcore.so.319.60 (0xf5158000) libxcb.so.1 => /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libxcb.so.1 (0xf5130000) libXrender.so.1 => /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libXrender.so.1 (0xf5120000) libXfixes.so.3 => /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libXfixes.so.3 (0xf5118000) libXau.so.6 => /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libXau.so.6 (0xf5110000) libXdmcp.so.6 => /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libXdmcp.so.6 (0xf5108000) -
The Linux compatibility thread!
sal_vager replied to sal_vager's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
Okay, permissions, it's usually enough to right click the binary and look at its properties tab, make sure it's executable and you are the owner, if it's owned by "root" things get a little harder. For the 32bit libs, they should already be installed so don't worry about those just yet, see if the file is executable first. -
The Linux compatibility thread!
sal_vager replied to sal_vager's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
It's probably got its permissions messed up Mulbin. But yeah if you don't have the 32bit libs, it's a good idea to get them. -
The Linux compatibility thread!
sal_vager replied to sal_vager's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
Mulbin, open it in a terminal like I suggested, just open a terminal window and drag the binary into it, then press enter. If it's a Linux issue the terminal should say. -
Which as we know is about as valuable as post count and comment karma, yeah, (s)he knew what was required to have that addon here, too bad, look for it and chat surrounding it on another site. When (s)he decides to post source and a license that addon can be here. Closing this one.

sal_vager replied to Buzz Kerbin's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Buzz Kerbin, just to add to this, Squad know that players want female Kerbals but this is not expected to occur at this time, remember that KSP is still being actively developed, please be patient. matts73, sick dude and not in the good way :/ -

sal_vager replied to sal_vager's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
The gear thing is KSP, nothing we can do about that, but the Enter key thing, I can't remember when I last needed to press Enter in KSP, you don't need to press it so try to avoid it -
Why can't I make this a subassembly?
sal_vager replied to photogineer's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Try using this so you can fit a pod, change that to the root then subassembly the rocket that you want -

So I have a quick question about "global warming"
sal_vager replied to vetrox's topic in Science & Spaceflight
This thread will return to civility or it will be closed, as it is this subject is usually not permitted as it always devolves into arguments and name calling, which is happening here. These are the Science Labs, back up any claims for or against with science, not argument.
