  1. Sorry tater, I didn't realize you were in agreement, I retract my false comparison statement. I was thinking more along the lines of this though, when comparing the images we see from NASA to what we can see with our eyes, even when aided with optical telescopes, there's a big difference in colour like in this image: This isn't mine, but it's just like what I see in my telescope unless I make a long exposure which is how a lot of the space pics we see are made. Using a much larger scope helps as well. This is also one of the things that stargazing sites will tell people interested in entering astronomy, people won't see the colours they expect. It's certainly possible to see these colours, but to see then with the vibrancy of the images we see elsewhere in this thread takes more than just your eyes. Edit. Taking this further we have pictures like this: Taken in infrared, there's a wealth of beauty in the universe we simply can't see with our eyes. Also this should really be in Suggestions (for more lens flares).
  2. Cassini was much closer to Jupiter when that image was taken. Look at Jupiter through a telescope, don't make false comparisons please.
  3. Space is black, but stuff we see in space is largely devoid of its colour to our eyes, KSP is grey more due to texture compression, also your screen can have a big effect on it. The skybox is a lot darker on my current monitor.
  4. Well, in real life the colours you see in space photos are from very long exposures, these colours are too faint to see with the naked eye, we only see some like the red of Betelgeuse due to just how much red it puts out The beautiful colours of the horsehead nebula, and even the deep reds of Jupiter, only really show with photography, usually with their colours enhanced in some way. While there is colour, most of it is lost on human eyes, without long exposures and colour filters, most of space really does look grey to us.
  5. Squad has historically avoided patches, that's why there was a patcher. Also with the changes to KSP for 1.1 the first patch would be rather large. So there's no plans for individual patches, sorry.
  6. KSP's stock lensflare isn't too bad, it's a lot subtler than the OP's, as you can see here. It can always be modded out if you dislike it.
  7. Sorry BrutalRIP, but as you joined up after KSP was released on Steam I assume you bought KSP after the cut-off. You've had three years of fun in KSP so far, that's hardly being "ripped off".
  8. I expect there will be an announcement at the time Regex
  9. Hi @ben2988 Sorry to tell you this but this is just something the Unity game engine does, there's no fix for it, try not to let it bother you too much. What's happening is the garbage collector in Unity runs when the heap memory is low (every few seconds) to find and remove anything in memory that are no longer used, such as temporary integers, float an string variables created by C# methods, being a memory managed language C# uses a GC to automatically clean up behind itself. These variables are generated with everything, moving objects, physics, collision checking, graphical user interface (GUI) updates, everything, and the more there are the longer it can take for the GC to check them, even if there's not much to actually free. One of the biggest contributors to this in Unity4 is the GUI calls, but Unity5 uses a new much more efficient GUI method, a lot of the work for 1.1 has been to recreate the KSP GUI in Unity5. Unity5 also includes many performance improvements across the board compared to Unity4, including a newer and fully multi-threaded physics engine. So there's nothing you can do about it currently, but things should improve with KSP 1.1 on the Unity5 engine. Which is coming soon, as you can see in the devnotes in the daily Kerbal section
  10. Interesting plane @Triop, do you know who made it?
  11. As well as MechJeb until you're back on your feet with flying in KSP, don't forget there's many excellent tutorials by our members that can help you lean how things have changed.
  12. Well, I can't say why it's doing this for you, because simply put, KSP doesn't do this. Something is interpreting your short tap on the shift key as the "C" keystroke (assuming you have not rebound this). As you only have a few mods I'd try removing them all and see if this issue goes away, if it doesn't then I'd check for any accessibility aids or keymaps at the OS level, in case one of those is causing this. Or you might have a bad setting.cfg, delete it to force KSP to make a new one the next time you start the game.
  13. Hi @REMD, I can't see what's causing the issue, but I do know that Windows 10 will roll back graphics drivers to earlier versions, as this has happened to a lot of KSP players so far. Even if Windows claims the driver is up to date it's worth reinstalling them anyway. Trouble is there's no Windows 10 driver for your card, the last one from AMD is the legacy driver for Windows 8. AMD dropped support for the HD 4xxx series and earlier quite a while ago, and will soon also drop the HD 5xxx cards. I think it's time to upgrade, sorry.
  14. Yes absolutely! Let me know of your nominations in a PM
  15. I hope you're still working on this @Exclipse, it looks just like the games I play Also, I'm sticking this for March's Lounge TOTM!
  16. It's still good, so good I'm pinning this for the March TOTM so more people see it
  17. Great info @Val, there's always players who have trouble with this, especially during re-entry, Col and CoM can't be ignored. Pinned for March.
  18. This is a really good thread @Panichio, you've been pinned for March I joined in February 2012, not long after finding the 0.13.2 demo on Reddit, KSP has changed so much since back then and so has the community, but it's still full of great people.
  19. Helloo everyone! It's the start of March, so it's time to sticky some new threads from around the forums and bring your attention to some great stuff in our community you may have missed. It's an eclectic mix this month, with some old threads thrown in that I have wanted to feature for ages. So without further ado we're starting this TOTM in General Discussion with @Panichio's thread on people who joined in 2011, where we learn what some of our earliest members think of KSP. Next we have a tutorial on the importance of the center of mass and center of lift from @Val, this is sure to help some people with their spaceplanes, as it's still common for players to have issues re-entering due to neglecting to take their CoM shift into account. This. Is. Awesome! @Azimech is know around the forums for his amazing mechanical creations, but sometimes he lets himself indulge in more whimsical craft design, and this time he geeks out with an all-stock, flying Starship Enterprise, joined by the Reliant, with a guest appearance by the Klingons! Our challenge this month comes from @SpaceplaneAddict, he asks us to show the loneliest celestial body some love, so get out there and show Dres how much you appreciate her clearing up those asteroids! Unless, of course, you know that Dres does not exist... I can't remember if I linked this next TOTM before, looking back I was not able to find it, so I'm doing it anyway! Witness @Space Scumbag's amazing recreation of Mad Max, Mad Jeb Fury Road! It's just like the movie! From Mission Reports comes the harrowing saga of Emiko Station, penned by @Just Jim, "Is This The End?". We have @lobe to thank for the Science thread this month, with his discussion on what my be the only real way we'll reach the stars, oh and it involves huge explosions so it's a win win! Late addition! @Exclipse, is working on a great little 2D KSP-esque game called Asteroid Initiative, where you can build rockets from parts, fly to (and crash on) other planets. Take a look, and maybe give him a vote on Steam! And finally, how could I not feature the biggest thread in recent weeks?, give a big hand everyone to @inigma and the Spacedock dev thread! That's all for now, see you next time on the Kerbal Space Program forum Threads of the Munth! See Januaries TOTM here ! See Februaries TOTM here!
