You will probably get a better response in the 'Add-on Discussion' section, but just to point you in the right direction, every part will have a cfg file, usually named parts.cfg. In there you can easily change things like mass, drag and thrust for engines. I am not really a modder, so I am not the one who can give you detailed help.

I am guessing your game updated to 1.3.1. One or maybe more of your mods is not compatible yet. What I did was just delete all of the mods in the Game Data folder and then slowly add them back in until I hit the crush again. Then you will need to look for an update to the mod.
-
I have the Steam version of the game and I just got the update, and of course the game crashed. I deleted all the mods in my Game Data folder and the game loaded. Now I have to figure out which mod broke the game. I use to freak out about this, but now I was already anticipating it . In the meantime - here is my Sputnik picture.

Thoughts on a Gaming Controller for KSP?
Ty Tan Tu replied to Speed_Kerman's topic in KSP1 Discussion
There is the Steam Controller which has native support in KSP. I was a bit intrigued after watching the video below. But I play the PC version, and build rockets, so in the final analysis I decided the key board worked better for the way I play the game. But watch the video so you know what to expect with a controller. -
I have this bad habit of starting a new sandbox game just to test one of my crazy ideas or some new part - and then forgetting about them? My saves have such creative names as ' Testing 123', 'New Parts Test', and 'Terrapin Station'. Nothing to give me a hint about what I was thinking about at the time, 'Terrapin Station' has a five story habitat on Minimus. 'Testing 123' has three asteroids orbiting Kerbin. I think the idea was to setup fueling stations in low, synchronous, and extra high Kerbin orbits. 'New Parts'Test' I had completely forgotten about, but it was a crazy idea that was pretty cool. It has the beginning of a floating base on Laythe. There is a Hitchhiker can attached to a science lab floating on Laythe, The idea was, you do not have to land on one of Laythe''s islands, you can just use boats to build a floating station on the planet. Anyway, does anyone else have old saved games you are not actively playing, but do not want to delete quite yet?

If I had my druthers I would get rid of the whole SOI (sphere of influence) and make it closer to a full physics simulation. One of the things I miss from Orbiter is the high Callisto orbits. The orbits could get weird enough that I would really start thinking deeper about the three body problem. You could also set up Lagrangian orbits. Setting up a halo orbit around Lagrangian points is really cool, and something you can not do in KSP..

Ohh My GOSH!!! Look what I did!!! Yes finally YES!!!!!!
Ty Tan Tu replied to IAmNotCreative_21's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Does it have ore you can mine? Maybe you can attach resource extractors and use the ore to fuel the rocket? Second question, what is the drag on a thing like this? If you zoom in on normal asteroids, it contains a tiny little cube. -
I suppose it is a feature that allows you to switch back to a ship before it crashes. I sent a large solar array to Minmus (really large, 100 Kerbals large) with a sky crane and landed it. I separated the space crane and sent it on its merry way expecting it to run out of fuel and crash back to the surface. Mission accomplished. I went back to the VAB to build a rover, which I did launch into a Minmus' orbit. But then I discovered that here were TWO objects named 'Minimus Probe I'. I was pretty sure which one was my really big precious solar array. but I was not completely sure. So, I went back to the Tracking Station and zoomed into the one I was sure was not my solar array - and sure enough it was the crane still suspended above the Minmus surface. I watched it until it finally did crash. Now I have some debris I can visit with my new rover, and know where to land my rover.

I sort of hit the wall where I was not really sure what I wanted to do. Then i remembered a video tutorial on the Kerbal Planetary Base System where the presenter simply used Hyper edit to place the bases on the surface, so, I just went with that. I discovered that the VAB and Space Hanger limit the size of what you can build. My first effort was really not much more than an exercise to use all the parts of the Planetary Base System. It has a nuclear reactor for power, two drillers (one for oxygen and one for nuclear fuel), all the tanks and processors, a garage, science labs, greenhouses and habitat. I tried to put a bit of thought into it . Everybody has their on entrance to their living space without having to walk through someone else's living space. But I thought there was not enough greenhouses. So I built a farm. There are 16 greenhouses there. Why not build up instead of out... Here is what it looks like now. I will probably just delete the game, and try again, combining all of the best parts of the three designs

You are right it does say they can change it without telling you. -
How to complete docking training?
Ty Tan Tu replied to port513's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I spent two days trying to dock for the first time, and not short days I assure you. By the second day I had it set up so that the target ship was facing retrograde, and my ship facing prograde in almost the exact same orbit with an inclination of NaN. The apo and ped were not exactly on top of each other, but I had it down so that the two ships could not be more than 15 meters apart at the absolute most. I put the camera behind me and used the RCS thrusts to nudge a bit to the right. the ports were still not exactly align, and I was about to to panic yet again when - suddenly BOTH shops raced away from me. I was like "What did I do wrong now?" Then it dawned on me, "Oh, I am docked." Docking is the hardest thing you are going to do in KSP, but it is a bit like riding a bicycle, once you get it , it is easy. If it is really frustrating you, look at a couple of mods. First try the Docking Port Alignment Indicator. You still have to control the ship, but it gives you a good indicator to control your ship when docking. I used this quite a bit when I strated. https://mods.curse.com/ksp-mods/kerbal/220299-docking-port-alignment-indicator Or even consider MechJeb and watch it do it for you, but pay attention, because I really think you will benefit from learning how to dock. https://mods.curse.com/ksp-mods/kerbal/220221-mechjeb Installing mods can be a bit confusing when you first start, so let us know if you need any help. :-) -

I suppose the short answer is, if you find it unacceptable, don't accept it. -
Exploring the question, Is there life on the sun?
Ty Tan Tu replied to drew4452862's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
There are hydrothermal vent creatures in the perpetual night of the deep ocean hydrothermal vents near the Galapagos Rift. I have always wondered about Jupiter. Is it possible, as chemically active as the planet is, that there is a layer that could support anaerobic organism? It happens on Earth... -

Ty Tan Tu replied to T.C.'s topic in KSP1 Discussion
Reading through most of this it seems they are just trying to protect their intellectual property. You can't install 10 instances of KSP on your computer and then share out your hard drive to everyone in your dorm so ten of your friends each have their own version of the game to play. You can't steal their artwork and audio files and make money on them for yourself. You can't recompile their code and use it to write your own game that you make money on. Scott Manley is fine making advertising money from his YouTube videos because what he is offering is what is call 'commentary'. There are very specific rules in re-claiming advertising dollars on YouTube. It is not what I do, but I work for a company that does re-claim advertising money from people who post movies or things like the Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor, and we re -claim advertising money I have overheard very serious discussions on whether or not a bad Russian translation of a movie is a violation of the studios rights, or an attempt to make a 'commentary' on the movie. These dissensions are not made lightly. No one cares if you install multiple instances of KSP on your personal computer for your personal use. To be honest, no one evens knows you have even done that .. or at least they do not care. - Stream let me install the game three times on my computer. You can not make money off of the hard work of KSP programmers. You can not make money off of the hard work of KSP artist. You can not make money off of the hard working people who made the KSP audio files. That is what you are agreeing to. -
The "You know you're playing a lot of KSP when..." thread
Ty Tan Tu replied to Phenom Anon X's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I was at work in Oracle's SQL Developer trying to figure out what the heck a programmer was trying to doing with an SQL - and hit the 'M' key thinking it would zoom me out to an 'orbital' view of the database. It did not work. It would be cool if you could do that though... Image a program that could parse an SQL query and then present it as a 3D view showing all databases and tables referenced? Maybe it already exist, but my company is basically of the Caddyshack mentality of 'You will get nothing and you will like it.'. -
Maybe the KSP logo grow out of this or maybe it was added deliberately, but I visited the old space center and the setting sun reflecting on the old antenna produced this effect.

That is pretty much what I am doing lately. I send out a polar orbital probe to map resources. Next I land an unmanned rover to scout out a good landing site. I should probably be more circumspect, but I usually will send a manned lander next and use the scouting rover to explore the area. Once a good spot has been found, I know I will need fuel for any manned mission so I send two miners, one for liquid fuel and oxidizer and a small one for monopropellant. I use the KIS/KAS mod so my kerbonauts have the tools they will need to transfer fuel. With that in place I launch the space station, which is really just a big fuel tank with a hitchhiker can - and of course dock ports. Because my miners will not be exactly where I would have wanted them, I send a tanker rover with a rocket fuel tank and a smaller monopropellant tank. The idea is that the tanker drives out to the miners. The Kerbals on the surface attach the miner to the tanker rover and than drive it back to the lander to refuel it so it can get back up to the space station. Now you are ready to start a colony. I use the Kerbal Planetary Base Systems mod because it has cool things like greenhouses, believable habitat units and lots of container and energy options. I am skipping a lot of stuff like the communication network, and support infrastructure. I need a Kerbin space station to host my deep space shuttle to get Kerbals back and forth from the remote location, and a way to get them back to the surface, I have still been using a MK1-2 with parachutes, but i should probably develop a space plane to shuttle Kerbals from the surface to space station and back again. *You can cheat. You can build a really big base with Kerbal Planetary Base Systems in the Spaceplane Hangar, and use the Hyper Edit mod to just place it on a planet or moon. Not that I would ever do that, but if you did, it might look something like this: You could have four greenhouses with eight habitat units to house 32 Kerbins, designed so that you do not have to walk through someone else personal space. There could be two science labs and a garage for rovers on the left. Maybe two miners, one to provide oxygen to the station and the other to provide ore for the centrifuge to fuel the nuclear reactor on the right.
-
Ohhh! That makes more sense then the answer I was going to give. I thought it was because he was current at Eelo and it takes that much time for the messages to be transmitted to the Kerbin based severs that host the forum.

The Sunway TaihuLight looks promising. At 93 petaflops and 10,649,600 CPU cores, it should be able to run most KSP mods. I am not claiming your load times will always be great, but I doubt you will drop too many frames because of the physics calculation in the CPUs. Since it is running a modified Linux, a port for KSP should not be that hard.

Given that Nibiru is scheduled to destroy the world on Saturday, I was trying to figure out where it is today. It supposedly has a period of 3,600 years. Since it is going to collide with Earth, I figure its perihelion has to be no more than 1 AU. That would put the aphelion out at about 469 AU or about 70 billion kilometers. So if it is due to hit us in about five days, where would it be right now?

I once found a new 5" mirror on Astromart. An odd size to be sure, but it fit perfectly into the end of #10 cans, like large coffee cans. I soldered several cans together. I bought a beat up 4.5" telescope just for the focuser and secondary mirror with adjustable 45 degree holder (it was cheaper than buying those new, and I was very broke at the time). I used bicycle spokes for the spider, which the local bicycle repair shop gave me for free after I explained why I wanted what they considered trash. The bicycle spokes were a touch of genius. They have those little hex nuts that make collimation a lot easier. I was going to add light baffling, but decided that the ribbed nature of the cans with flat black paint would be good enough. The primary mirror has a long focal length, but works quite well, especially for planets in Portland OR's light polluted skies. I want to grind my own mirror. The Rose City Astronomers (RCA) has a weekend shop where I can do that with expert advise. Does anyone have a recommendation on where to buy a couple of glass blanks and grinding grit?

Karken roe. It is basically egg masses that can only mature and hatch under very special conditions, like a warm oxygen and water rich environment.

Obscure Underwater Kerbin Easter Egg? Join the search!
Ty Tan Tu replied to DAL59's topic in KSP1 Discussion
There is this strange little glitch I discovered with a poorly designed boat that tended to have its nose pushed down at higher speeds. I think it most be Unity, but between the surface view and the underwater view, there is this tiny angle where you can see the floor of the ocean crystal clear (with clipping at a distance). Here is a picture. The dot in the center left is actually the boat and sea level. I am well off the coast from KSC and almost out to the under sea ridge. -
Cheating; A meditation on it's definition in modded KSP
Ty Tan Tu replied to Neil Kerman's topic in KSP1 Discussion
The whole SOI (sphere of influence) is a cheat isn't it? I got some negitive comments for stating this before, but I am not sure people undersood what I was trying to say. For me, KSP is a toy not a game. But you see, I think toys are superior to games. Games have rules and if you do not follow those rules, you are cheating. If you pass Go on your way to Jail and collect $200 , you are cheating in Monopoly. You can't cheat with a toy... I play sandbox, which might make a difference, but as long as it expands my imagination, I do not give it a second thought when I 'cheat'. Inspired be Hayabusa I wanted to see if I could put a ion powered probe around Minmus. I did not give it a second thought when I just putting it in a LkO. After hundreds of launches, I know how to put x amount of Kg weight into orbit. That was not what I wanted to do with my toy. I just wanted to see how I could do the retrograde burn to put it into orbit around Minmus - and how much fuel I used. How far can I send this craft?
