[1.2.X] [Kopernicus] Planet Cyran
MinimalMinmus replied to The White Guardian's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Well then: Flying high above Cyran (no biome in mind): Crew report: After (not that much) thinking, you decide to take your resignation EVA report: You're praying for Gene to magically switch place with you. Thermometer: The thermometer indicates a temperature of... ooh crap... Barometer: According to the barometer, you seem to be doomed. Spectro-variometer: Cyran's athmosphere seems to be composed principally of Blutonium, Redonium, and Doomium. Goo; The goo observes you, and appears supplicant. Material bay: The sample are melting in a very sciencey way. Gravioli: There are a lot of neutral graviolis here... what!? -
[1.2.X] [Kopernicus] Planet Cyran
MinimalMinmus replied to The White Guardian's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
If you need a few blurbs, I'd be willing to contribute, for sure! Just for the lulz, here are my takes for "flying low over Cyran": Crew report: You start to feel less solid an more gaseous than before. EVA report: AAAAAUUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGHHHH! Thermometer: The thermometer is very confident this was suicide Barometer: The barometer doesn't respond, I think it burned. SCIENCE! Spectro-variometer: Just before the loss of signal, you detect a large quantity of "bad idium" Goo: the goo seems to hate this place! Material bay: You try to analyze a moltenn slag before realizing it's part of the casing Gravioli: The gravity meter appears to detect positive graviolis.Dang. -
Stock Mun Space Station Challenge
MinimalMinmus replied to SomeKandomKerbal's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Fun fact: building a Sstation around minmus is actually easier than mun... Also, the score criteria are unclear- 8 replies

I took a single screenshot of all Jool's moons
MinimalMinmus replied to JacobJHC's topic in KSP Fan Works
Neat shot, we have the whole quintette for sure. ... is it possible for sarnus too, you think? I'm thinking about a picture from Hale, while close to Ovok, after waiting for the 3 others to be at the right place -
There are 2 "minoliths", one normal one in the northern hemisphere, and a greenolith, whose location is random. I'm pretty sure every single body has a greenolith, and yes, when you come close you get a tech for free.
-
Dunno, but I found Minmus' greenolith, an it unlocke a tech (experimental science). Also, it was a late-game tech, from my PoV, not the cheapest to buy at all!

The Hitchhiker's Guide to Kerbals: A Primer on the Species
MinimalMinmus replied to SkyRender's topic in KSP Fan Works
Hilarous: This topic is. -
1.There is an in-game tutorial to learn plenty of stuff, including orbiting transfers and stuff like that, but eventually the best tutorial is your own experience 2. The game is hard! It features the same "learning cliff" dwarf fortress does, and you WILL need several tries to make your first orbit. But eventually, you'll go from "Wut's a roket lulz?" to "The rocket n°6351 to Laythe will leave in five minutes. All passengers must go aboard." 4. Well, building really large ships is time-consuming, and it is even harder to send them in orbit. Really, small but efficient ships do the job as well (and the so-called "motherships" you will hear about here are modular). So don't worry too much.

1000 years? You still have a life. Come back when you have 8000 hours (yes, that's a whole YEAR!)

You do not want to know how many fails it took me to do anything good...

[1.2.X] [Kopernicus] Planet Cyran
MinimalMinmus replied to The White Guardian's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
This made me think: a Cyran-like object is possible IRL! However, it would be a brown dwarf rather than a "true" gas giant. Brown dwarves can be still pretty hot because they burn deuterium, and are good at keeping their heat. Curiously, BD!Cyran wouldn't be much bigger than it currently is, because at this point the extra squeeze from more gas is an even bigger effect than the volume gain. Case in point: Jupiter is barely bigger than Saturn, but it's more than twice as massive because it is much denser. And if one was to collide Jupiter and Saturn (gently!), the resulting giant would actually be smaller than both. So... this is quite neat to imagine that, somewhere, somewhat, Cyran can exist. -
asteroid covered in weird green ores?
MinimalMinmus replied to noobsrtoast's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Well, lucky you, that wasn't the case for me... -
Sending 3,245,000 mega kerbodyne tanks to prevent an asteroid the size of Gilly from colliding Kerbin (heck, at 140 IRL km, a gilly-sized impactor would probably end pluricellular life...) seems rather teious, and it's WAAAAY too punishing in the case you fail.

[1.2.X] [Kopernicus] Planet Cyran
MinimalMinmus replied to The White Guardian's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
A fire-themed giant? Now that's unusual. I would have thought about a "hot jupiter" too, but then of course Cyran's moons would be overcooked too, and their orbit would proably be unstable anyway. Yet, I have yet to see a mod adding a hot jupiter in KSP. Back on topic: This is a very neat mod, and I'll probably download it if gets to 1.2.2, provided it si compatible with OPM. Oh, an any plan to put it on CKAN? Oh, and is it a coincidence if "Cerillion" ~ "Cerulean"? -
asteroid covered in weird green ores?
MinimalMinmus replied to noobsrtoast's topic in KSP1 Discussion
And let's not forget the usual case: the asteroid mah bave a very excentrical, but polar orbit (a tundra orbit, to be technical), in which case making them reach Mun/Min is HARD -
I'd say Kerbin, but honestly, now that I have both STH, SVH and Scatterer, I'll never be able to look to any stock planet without thinking "Boo, it's ugly!". Case in point, Minmus, which is alreay, honestly, quite something in stock, becomes a real eye candy with these mods, no wonder I like this body so much now!
-
I like this suggestion, this would allow to stay on the current version while everyting gets updated. Case in point: because of Kopernicus, the OPMs basically disappeared with no warning for ~3 (IRL) days. Every missions to those bodies would ave been pretty screwed up. So this is not useless, as some said.

Today, I tried to get a rendezvous with an asteroid (the elliptical orbit you can see on the picture). Seeing it was on an orbit pretty far from the equator, I had to launch unusually... and this picture sums the rest quite well. http://prntscr.com/djesf7 KermanMacIntern: Er... did I read the orbit parameters backward?

Why does everyone think KSP is not going well.
MinimalMinmus replied to nascarlaser1's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Sometimes words don't work, so, I'll simply shrug. More seriously, it's because there was a wave of leaving devs, and so everyone freaked out. -
asteroid covered in weird green ores?
MinimalMinmus replied to noobsrtoast's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I've never seen any pic of a non-green magic boulder, do you have one? Also, I have read on the wiki that the chance for a given asteroid to be a MB is about 5% -
A thread for the adjectives for celestial bodies!
MinimalMinmus replied to MinimalMinmus's topic in KSP1 Discussion
In French, the case is pretty much similar to English, and I guess it would do, if you're interested, in order: Kerbolaire, Mohoite, Évien, Gillien, Kerbien, Munaire, Minmal, Dunien, Ikien, Drérien, Joolien, Laythien, Vallien, Tyloite, Bopien, Polien, Eelien -
A thread for the adjectives for celestial bodies!
MinimalMinmus replied to MinimalMinmus's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Let's see... I kinda like what you found for bop and Ike. Adapting the adjective for Ceres (cererean), you can get to ""Drerian", which sounds pretty good actually. Also, just for the lulz, here's my list, OMP style! Sarnus: Sarnian; Hale: Halian ; Ovok: Ovian ; Slate: Slatic ; Tekto: Tektonic Urlum: Urlic ; Polta: Poltian; Priax: Prian; Wal : Walite; Tal: Talite Neidon: Neidar; Thatmo: Thatmian; Nisse: Nissian Plock: Plockian; Karen: Karian -
Climatic Effects of giant Asteroid Impact
MinimalMinmus replied to fredinno's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Yup, given an impact that big, you could skip the "Will X get destroyed?" and say "Yep". The asteroid of this video, despite being very round, isn't Ceres, but rather Vesta-sized (or if you prefer, Minmus-sized). Ceres, in the same throw, would pack roughtly 8 times more kinetic energy than this already ginormous impact. Later in the discovery channel video, they explain how Vesta wouldn't cook the bedrock fast enough to prevent the eventual cooling as the "heat wave" is advancing, killing everything in it's way (It still advances about halfway through the "still-habitable crust" before cooling). I would assume Ceres would have no problem with that, essentially ending all life on Earth. As of Mars... well, there is no question here. No more life, period.
