  1. Yes, exactly. It's on @sevenperforce to decide if he wants to allow this for his challenge. also to be considered: - Landing much larger Craft will be harder and parashutes will help you less (especially on Mars). - IRSU becomes a reasonable option (IRSU equipment is very heavy) The mission I have in mind would be an Elon-Style mission with purely propulsive landings and IRSU for oxidizer only.
  2. In my opinion, Elon Style would be also to build a very large ship for 100 or more tourists. May I suggest to do the scoring per Kerbal, so if you bring 3 Kerbals you divide your final score by 3 and if you bring 100 Kerbals, you divide your final score by 100?
  3. I had a job at ZF where they build The 8-speed automatic transmission. I worked there for nearly 5 years, only on weekends. It's part of the reason I didn't progress as fast as I should in my studies and i quit the job.
  4. 1) Yes, you have to land Burberry anywhere on Kerbin. 2) No. If you want to make a nice landing and use your jet engines to extend your crossrange, I won't punish you for that. I mean: Your plane can land without using it's engines, can't it? You could just make a quicksafe, show that you can land somewhere (e.g. The desert), quickload and go for a nice runway landing.
  5. The problem I have with eeloo (or any body far out) is the large time of travel to get there. I don't like doing huge timewarps, I do other missions in the meantime (Kerbal Alarm Clock is your friend). Therefore I choose very fast transfer windows and do just flyby missions. Fast transfers require more delta v and make an insertion burn even more costly.
  6. Simple and straightforward: You need the orbital survey scanner to do that. It's pretty advanced tech.
  7. Wait. How does this work? Whenever I try building just a simple moving axis, I emediately summon the Kraken.
  8. I'm playing with a lot of mods and @Galileo's planet pack. Transfer windows to Niven are quite rare so I decided to go all in with this mission. From left to right there's a big relay satelite/scansat, a tug/small relay, a big rover, two Ascent vehicles, a freezing module and the propulsion unit. It took 5 Launches to assemble this in LGO. Can't wait to fly the mission tomorrow.
  9. Now I'm confused *looking it up*. Now I'm even more confused. Wikipedia says your version here, but why would not entering a LEO parking orbit result in a much bigger rocket? It's a bit contradictory Then it shows the proposed Gemini lunar lander, wich was meant to fly a mission without a (lunar) rendezvous. I think it all about not having to do rendezvous and docking maneuvers, and the thing about the LEO parking orbit is humbug. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
  10. Falcon 1 Falcon 1e I'll edit this post as I go along.
  11. That's not what Direct Ascent is. Direct Ascent means no docking in lunar orbit. In the stock game, this is by far the easiest way of doing it, as the other two require docking and make the mission more complicated. Of course, Apollo style is more efficient, but it doesn't make a huge difference in the stock game (in real life it does).
  12. Hmm, you could increase the wing area to make the plane capable of flying slower..
  13. None. I always feel like I loose more than I gain ... by a lot. Seriously, you get close to nothing from the strategies.
  14. I'm still a big fan of the Big Dumb Booster. I believe an expendable sea dragon would be cheaper than Elon Musks ITS launch vehicle.
  15. Scott Gaelan decided to fly to Icarus without reading the wiki first. Of course He did't think about radiators when freezing himself for the journey. Keen to land, he jumped out of the freezing chamber into one of the two landers he brought. The landers are built as light as possible, with external command seats and no radiators. He had to abort the landing in the Coelom (the nice green spot of Icarus) because he started to get a little warm the lower he got. After the seat litterally exploded under him, he managed to just so fly to orbit with his EVA suit and get back to the mothership. Now he asks himself if the strange and clearly dangerous phenomenon only occurs in the biome he tried to land in, or if he maybe can safely take the second lander to the night side of Icarus. Greetings from Icarus!
  16. I don't get any of this discussion. there are cheats in the stock game (the debug menu), there are mods that add cheats (e.g. hyperedit), an der there are a lot of mods that are just mods, man you of wich actually make the game harder.
  17. We're out of tablesalt, sir, but here: have some Porassium Chlorate! This knife isn't adequate for my steak, bring me a sharper one, please.
  18. I see some serious potential for exploits here. By that I mean building a giant SSTO with hundrets of passengers will get you a rediculous score. You may want to choose a function that approaches a certain limit for the passenger modifyer, or at least a logarithm.
  19. Here's your Gamepad. I'd like some orange juice.
  20. ... but it is so complicated, it uses 5 different propellants and 12 staging events before it seperates. My building is like the Eiffel Tower, but with a triangular layout.
  21. would you're background image make a good skybox for KSP?

  22. Wow. I need a minute. Depends on the cube, some are easier to break and put together again.
