Hello everyone! I'm making my first steps in this wonderful world, struggling with the career mode at the moment... I started to wonder, as money seems so far not to be a problem, what's the point of making reusable rockets? (besides the joy fullfilment of making something more efficient in the simulation).

    Thank you!

They gain more money, and can be pretty useful with 500 part monstrocities, but other than that, it's really for fun.

What is the rationale for the space center ambience being one giant cricket?

Where's it even coming from when I am hovering a kilometer over the VAB?

Why can't it be an owl? I can be relatively certain there aren't owls in my house when I accidentally leave KSP running at night.

I see nothing wrong with it. It's definitely better than silence. Maybe they could make cicadas buzz at twilight.

    Oooh jeez, I hope not.

The beauty of his 'assumed' anonymity is that he can interact and engage fully without getting bombarded.  And give personal opinions without it being taken as 'official'.

I am curious (naturally), and do have a couple of 'suspects' in mind, but I have no intention of sharing them, just in case...  (And also I so can't be proved wrong :D)

Hmmm, now I am suspicious... ;)

So the question remains, why place it where they did in this particular case?

They sort of had to care at a certain point otherwise they'd could potentially end up with the Armstrong Memorial on the far side as opposed to near side.

  5. A few months ago I was walking in my neighborhood with my friend, she stopped to have a phone call and my dog, who is really attatched to her, sat down on the grass for some reason. Some old man who was watching us I guess must have thought my dog pooped, and so when I started to leave, he started to cuss me out for not cleaning it up, even though my dog clearly had not. I went on home and I didn't see that man again, although I still hesitate to walk by his house.

194 degrees fahrenheit for the americans out there, my i was launching the first part of the space station into orbit when i suddenly noticed that my pc fans started to ramp up and i mean REALLY ramp up, it got so bad that it hit 100% fan speed and now it started to sound lke a jet engine, i checked the temps and JESUS CHRIST 90 DEGREES?!?!?!? i immediately pressed alt f4 to close down my game and turned off my pc to let it cool down, it never hits this high whilst playing this game its not even that demanding, by the way i have graphics cranked all the way to the lowest setting, can anyone help me?

    What are your PC specs?

Usually it's because it's working really hard, what was the part count?

    But man, 194 degrees...

What's your main savegame like? How far have you progressed (and how would you define "progression"?) What are notable mods you use? Do you have goals you want to accomplish?

For me, my main savegame at the moment is a career game with JNSQ, FAR, Kerbalism (LS and Science only), Burearacy, Unkerballed Start, Career Evolution, and CryoEngines. I think these mods give a "realism lite" feel to KSP while stretching out the early stages of the game. I especially like how JNSQ and FAR forces an emphasis on efficient rocket designed, which affects everything else in the game.

So far, I've sent probes to Duna and Eve and am preparing to send Kerbals to Munar orbit. My ultimate goal is to pull of a crewed mission to Duna and back- this will be my first time doing it with Kerbalism and JNSQ.

I have several things going on. I recently did my first manned mission to tylo despite the fact that I have been playing the game since 0.25, I am reusing the core stage in order to do a Duna mission. I am planning a manned mission to Moho currently. I have 3 stations, the Next Generation Space Station, Mun Station 1, and the minmus science station, which I built using a reusable "bus" that shuttles the modules to the station. As for mods, no part mods, but I have KER, Kerbal Alarm Clock, Docking Allignment Indicator, etc.

  8. I agree fully @Master39, what's unique about KSP is that you can make your own reason for exploration. If it's a fixed one it damages some of the creativity of the game. You can make it about a war, stopping an asteroid etc. I think the contract system dosen't need a predetermined objective, it needs a sense of continuity. In the early days you might need to test things, but not later on. You might need to plant flags, but not later on. New contracts might pop up later on that focus on station building and exploration, as well as possibly challenging you to find easter eggs. I agree with the OP's premise, but not your need for a story.

Also, contracts that have continuity don't necessarily always make a narrative. The closest thing to continuous contacts are the world records society one's and would you agree those make a narrative?

If anything, it just allows slightly more imagination in the game.

Please help me I need a challenge. So I am currently have no ideas of what to do in KSP anymore. Can someone please give me a challenge!

Go to a place you never had been before (If you haven't visited all the bodies), or if you have, install an interesting planet pack like GPP or JNSQ.

I dont want to kill the Kerbals as the mission is worth at least 1.7 mio. and as said, 600 Science Points.

I suppose you can cheat to autocomplete the contract, that might solve the problem.

In case you don't know, go to the Alt-F12 menu, select Contracts, select the Active tab go to the contract, and select complete.

    Hope this helps! :D

    (Also, Logs).

(Funny story, I forgot to add a return vehicle to the Mothership, luckily I had ridiculously over engineered it, and so it had enough fuel to get into orbit around Kerbin where the crew was recovered by a transport vehicle).

Is this the first instance of Bob Kerman being depicted as wearing glasses?  All the other astronauts have their name badges visible, except the bespectacled one, which I think it is safe to presume is Bob?  I don't think he has glasses anywhere else, no?

    Well he is a scientist...

I know, that modders will implement it anyways, but i'd rather have it made by professionals with Private Division resources, than by amateur modder on bold enthusiasm, because of the amount of attention to details required. Replicating landscape of Earth alone is a monumental task, and i'm not even talking about putting every Moon crater, to exact place it should be in. And honestly i'm even willing to pay for it as a DLC, if it would be made well, taking into account HOW MUCH of effort will that take, compared to creating a new fictional system from scratch, without having to worry about being inaccurate.

And couple of thoughts on how it might be done.
So we know, that the Kerbol system from original KSP, will be a starting point in the KSP 2. We also know, that there is interstellar travel in KSP 2. Why wouldn't one of the systems, that we discover during our journey, be our beloved RSS? Just as it is in real world with one exception. There is no humans. Earth is perfectly habitable, but is completely untouched by life yet. Just imagine THE POTENTIAL of this approach! I'm not even gonna talk about recreating historic missions, flying hypersolic planes or visiting familiar locations, cause it's just so obvious. Think beyond that. Think about sending a ship called "The Ark" under command of Noah Kerman, to find and colonize habitable planet. Think about crash landing there and loosing both all contact to Kerbalkind and all their technology. Think about Kerbals calling this planet Earth, adjusting to it and evolving over time. Think about Kerbals starting their civilization from scratch there. Think about Kerbals forgetting who they are and where they are from. Think about how Kerbals can actually be great ancestors of Humans! How cool that would be!

And now think about this being very much possible event scenario in KSP2, if only we get our solar system replica in KSP 2. THE POTENTIAL!

Nope. It's still Kerbal Space Program. Seriously people, there are talented modders out there already in KSP 1, and considering that modding is supposed to be easier, there WILL be an RSS for KSP2.

The problem there is that you probably didn't install any of the mods that you're supposed to include. You can get anywhere using the mods that are supposed to be used with RSS.

Even with those mods, there is still a struggle to get anywhere, especcially manned missions, the farthest I've ever gotten with a manned mission is the Moon, and Ive been playing RSS for a long time.

So i use the Mechjeb 2 autopilot for practically everything, and i feel like i should actually be doing the stuff without help. Can someone just clear my mind of this?

there's nothing wrong with it, I was like you at one point at 1.0, but by the time 1.1 rolled around, I was able to do everything myself, so in a way they prepare you. :)
