  1. My guess would be it wants exactly 850 units, not at least 850.
  2. There's some... person who has a vehicle by my work that has a really loud exhaust, can't idle worth squat, and they like to just go start it up and let it run for HOURS at a time for no apparent reason. It's far enough away that I can't tell where it's coming from, but loud enough that I can hear it oscillating through two sets of walls. Whump....... Whump..... Whump...... OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN. This happens a couple times a month. It's been going now for at least 30 minutes. It's just as grinding as those... people who have car stereo systems that force everyone withing 1/4 mile to listen to their bass, several of which live by me, so I have to listen to that crap all the time too. This might be slightly annoying to most people, but constant, low frequency rhythmic sounds make me so mad I'm seriously about to put my fist through the wall if it doesn't stop.
  3. That type of device might be useful for the boosters. Might even put some small engines on it for braking thrusters so it doesn't explode. Also I think if you'd mirrored the retractable landing gear on the landing side, to step it down the same way you stepped it up, it would be much better than trying to catch it with some landing legs. I may have to make everything indestructible for this. Already having trouble with the boosters exploding when landing in the water, I can't imagine dragging them up onto shore will be any better. A lot easier than patching the impact tolerance of every single piece I'm using.
  4. Instead of cluttering up the WDYDIKSPT thread, I'll keep development here. Triggered by the push for more immersion of my shuttles, and @CatastrophicFailure's suggestion to do something I was already thinking about doing, I've decided to put together a program to recover, re-attach, refuel, re-load, and re-launch a complete shuttle. @kraden and @JadeOfMaar this may also interest you two. Step one is recovering the and re-orienting the shuttle, since I'm sure I'll need to make some small adjustments to it. Afterward will be making the main fuel tank recoverable, then I'll work on the boosters, and the boat to grab them and haul them back to shore. Two early failures: The firs one did ok, just couldn't get nearly high enough. The second one was spectacularly horrible. I don't understand IR hinges. The cylinders are a little easier to figure out, and I finally, finally broke down and used Tweakscale... because I pretty much had to. This worked! I'll need to make adjustments, like adding wheels so they can actually go up and grab the shuttle, but I think this is good to get it spun vertically, then I'll have another crane come in and grab it with the nose docking port.
  5. You leave it surface retrograde until just before you land. Switch it to radial out just as you touch down.
  6. Hinges are beyond my understanding, I don't think I should touch the robot struts yet. Even those hydraulic cylinders needed to be re-done once. The first time I put those together, they would actually move backwards and move through themselves, effectively compressing instead of extending. I fixed it by flipping them upside down. I know it's crazy, but I may have to actually read the manual on this one.
  7. Is it possible to pull multiple posts out of a thread, from different posters, and have them moved into a new thread? (Will all involved's permission of course.) Say, if a thread went off the rails into a completely different subject, and instead of hiding the posts as off topic, got moved into their own instead. I'm uh... asking for a friend.
  8. @kraden You people and your relentless logic.. That was the plan though, I was just kinda playing around last night. KIS/KAS has a winch right? Gonna probably look into that too. Another option was to put ports on the sides right on the empty CoM lift it up, then rotate it. Got a couple options here. Another problem I'm having with the IR stuff, is even on its slowest setting, it's still too fast. I can't imagine NASA righted the shuttles in 10 seconds.
  9. Maybe he uses his PC's cooling system as a coffee maker!
  10. A constant blue and green glare on the monitors? No thanks. I like the concept of the location of the computer, just no lights. Probably no transparent panel either. Personally, I like my computer to have a keyboard and mouse... but I guess I'm just weird.
  11. GoG FTW https://www.gog.com/game/kerbal_space_program
  12. I don't see how, since the forum server never actually sees the images.
  13. 2505, so I can wake up and be declared the smartest man alive.
  14. I seriously don't understand this big push to remove any access from the front panel, and the elimination of the 5.25" bays. I get it, we all decided as a society that optical media is terrible... (we didn't, though). But there are plenty of other applications for 5.25" stuff. I think that case is hideous, as well as most gaming cases. I hate my case, I'm only using it because it came with my computer bundle, and I couldn't really justify another 80-100 for a case I liked. I like a more utilitarian style case, functionality over flash. I hate that my front access USB ports and audio ports are on the top. Couldn't care less about LEDs lighting the thing up. The only time I actually appreciated the case I got, is when I got my way-overkill heat sink with my i7-7700K, and it would actually fit in this thing. To each their own though. While I don't share the opinion, I can certainly appreciate your... appreciation of that style of case. This is the best part of my case:
  15. Regular price is $40, but it is frequently on sale, as low as $20. I'll throw my voice on the pile... main advantage I see is the mouse. I just can't imagine working in the VAB or trying to click on small objects on the ships in flight with a controller. The only advantage I can really see to the console is flying planes, since you have to use analog inputs. Of course mods, can run better than a console if your computer is good enough, etc..
  16. Iunno. Seems fine, I guess, but I am running KJR, don't know if that's affecting it much. I don't understand IR at all. Meshes are changing when I launch the vessel, hinges want to fold backward which looks to be physically impossible, symmetrical parts behave opposite of each other when they're told to do the same thing... I just don't get it. After I play with it a bit some more, I'll start a new thread elsewhere about its progress and stop cluttering up here.
  17. I might be lining myself up for a @CatastrophicFailure. (No I will never stop doing that)
  18. I play sandbox, so money is no object. But this sounds like a good opportunity for me to get started on modding. I don't know squat about C#, but I'm no stranger to programming, and obviously I don't mind mucking around in save files. @CatastrophicFailure's just gonna have to wait.
  19. MODULE { name = ModuleEngines isEnabled = True staged = True flameout = True EngineIgnited = False engineShutdown = False currentThrottle = 0 thrustPercentage = 100 manuallyOverridden = False stagingEnabled = True RESOURCE { name = SolidFuel amount = 375 maxAmount = 375 flowState = True isTweakable = True hideFlow = False isVisible = True flowMode = Both Setting the bold values in the save file on the SRB fills it back up without auto-reigniting, and it can be fired again with an action group. I'm sure someone who understands those setting better than I could make it stagable again as well. I just ran a dirty test. I imagine a mod could add a "refurbish SRB" button that would change the appropriate settings.
  20. True. Don't think it'd be all that terrible, since I'd be doing it once. Noooo way would I do this every launch.
  21. Yeah these things are definitely not stock. I was thinking IR would be necessary, as well as some KAS and Konstruction! I already have all of those installed, I've just never done much with IR. It would take quite a rework to recover the boosters. Also I don't know if any mod exists that would allow me to refill SRBs. I'm sure it could be fairly easy to patch that though. The fuel tank also always comes to orbit with me, so recovery of that wouldn't be terrifically difficult. Gonna need a lot of practice of getting boosters down from orbit to land at the KSC. May operation "Really Nifty Timelapse" commence. I do have a 3 day weekend coming up...
  22. They're not analog, so yeah, I would count them as buttons.
