  1. Huge thread here for just that kind of stuff: But the basics of it is research the processor the most. What you're wanting is good single thread performance. External GPU is nice, but if you're on a limited budget, not the main concern. Also don't worry too much about an SSD if it's got a decent amount of RAM. The game plays entirely from memory, and SSD will help with load times, but that's about it unless you're paging a lot. Also keep in mind that right now component prices are high because of that digital currency mining crap, especially the GPUs. This is the card I have: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125914&cm_re=gtx_1050_ti-_-14-125-914-_-Product I paid $160 for it about 6 months ago, not on sale. The memory I have increased in price by about 50% as well.
  2. Give Kerbals the Grunt Birthday Party when they die.
  3. That's funny, I actually noticed this last night. Really messed with me when I was trying to back up to another craft to dock with it.
  4. KSP does not have a RAM usage limit. What you've probably seen is references to a RAM limit of 32 bit processes, which is about 4 GB. So if you're running a 32 bit version of KSP, you could be hitting that limit and crashing out. If you have a 64 bit system, you could still be using the 32 bit version. If you have a 32 bit system... there's not much you can do without getting a new computer.
  5. I thought the second one looked good, so I finally watched the first one. It was eh. B/B+.
  6. June 4th, 2017. Version 1.3. Had a FB post about being accepted into The Kerbal Space Program. One person thought it was a real thing, and I was leaving the planet.
  7. Given the context, I'm assuming you're not from the US? Countries that conventionally do a dd-mm-yyyy date format should celebrate Pi day on July 22nd.. 22-7-20XX... 22/7 being the fraction representation of Pi. So you're probably fine.
  8. I agree, we need more to do. I'm not overly concerned with how pretty it is... one of the more appealing aspects of the game is that it runs decently ok on older PCs. Don't need to start requiring higher power GPUs. But the game could certainly use more planetary interaction, with some emphasis on sandbox mode as well. BTW: Your TL;DR blurb is longer than the section its supposed to summarize...
  9. I'm betting your payload was simply too big. Fairing itself was providing too much drag up front, preventing the fins from doing their job, and probably keeping the CoM too far back.
  10. Congrats! Although it is insanely difficult to even guess about the problem without pictures.
  11. No. Can't attach anything to it radially. I've got another centrifuge from another mod and it's the same way.
  12. You implied you were going to Moho. Moho has no atmosphere. Therefore a heatshield and parachutes will be completely useless.
  13. Really the only kicker that I can think of with laptops is that they tend to have lower clocked CPUs to help keep down with heat, since it's much harder to keep a laptop cool than it is to keep a desktop cool. Looks like that processor has a base clock of 2.5 Ghz. Should run just fine, just expect to be in the yellow more with larger vessels. Having a dedicated GPU is nice, but not really a huge concern if you don't play on running any graphics mods.
  14. I could... but that'd be a lot of weight to haul up just to drop back down again. I'm thinking maybe some deployable arms with airbags? I grossly increased the number of sepratrons, added some airbrakes to the bottom to help angle it away, and am using a SmartParts controller to detach them when they hit 1% fuel left. Now they actually shoot out in front of the shuttle and veer away. There are definitely some benefits to doing all this with action groups instead of staging. Of course no staging and using docking ports is confusing the heck out of KER. NaNs everywhere important.
  15. Initial launch was going well, until separation of the SRBs. Not having decouplers in there really changes things, and they took out half the wings. Hardened as they are, Jeb and Val seem unconcerned.
  16. VTOL would probably be ideal, especially if it was built as a jet powered quad copter, that picked up the booster directly in the middle. CoM would never change. Two problems: I'm terrible at flying VTOLS I'd need to keep the booster floating vertically. Too bad the game isn't mimicking the real things and letting them fill up with water when they're empty. The STS ones stayed vertical until they pumped the water out. Playing with the main tank this morning. Survives re-entry just fine, I just suck at aiming. Getting the tank down on KSC property might actually be one of the trickier points of this. Nose docking port is for recovery crane. I don't plan on tipping it over just to tip it back up. If I can nail a VTOL for the boosters, I could probably use the same craft for this guy too. I also slapped the current versions of each piece together. No decouplers, all docking ports. Going to need a bit of fine tuning on the action groups, since staging the launch isn't practical due to the fact that it needs to do it again. @JadeOfMaar was awesome enough to write me a MM patch that allows me to re-fill and re-ignite the SRBs. Re-launch pad... which is just a giant trench plate with some heatshields attached. The entire vehicle is supported on one docking port on the tank with 4 struts. Hopefully the KAS EVA struts will hold up to the challenge on re-launch. The problem? The whole plate is just sliding around on the launch pad. Hopefully it won't do it on the grass.
  17. Oh, I guess I wasn't too clear. @DStaal's suggestion did not work. I tried installing Deep Sky Core just in case AK needed something in there to work correctly that you weren't aware of, and it prevented the game from loading (see log above) So at this point it's uninstalled. Given my current project the parts aren't needed, but I do need aerodynamics playing nice. I figured I would just wait until there was another update (I'm assuming it'll need a hefty update for 1.4) and see if it got accidentally patched, unless there are some other things you wanted me to try.
  18. I've had this stuck in my head the last few days when I woke up. Which is nice, because in the morning I usually have a song I don't like stuck in my head.
  19. I have! The problem is that I'm really bad with buoyancy. Never seem to have any control over it. Plus either one or more of my mods is affecting buoyancy. Also considering a sea plane option. Wouldn't be terrible since I am going to have to put docking ports on the sides anyway.
  20. Tonight I'm playing with some booster recovery ideas. First test successful!
  21. It's not the loud music. It would just be mildly annoying if I could hear all the music (Although I still want to ask them what it's like being better than everyone else). It's the bass. When all you can hear is the deep, low frequency repetitive stuff that just grinds me to no end, like the oscillating idle on the truck. I even took an early lunch just to get away from it. It went on for another hour after my last post. I don't think it's age. This stuff has always ticked me off, starting in high school.
