One sentence you could say to annoy an entire fan base?
Lisias replied to Fr8monkey's topic in Forum Games!
2mb was (approximately) the capacity of the specially formatted disks Microsoft used to distribute Window 95 by the first time. 13 disks "only". After OSR2.1, this number jumped to 26 disks. It was absolutely wundebar when the install failed on the last disk due on an I/O error... -

Lisias replied to RayneCloud's topic in KSP2 Discussion
This Forum have the very solution for this problem: don't allow easy, cheaply created accounts to post anything. Mass harassment happens because it's dirty cheap to create another account that will have all the privileges for free. The problem with this approach is that most social media are evaluated by the numbers of active accounts they have, and so they have an incentive to keep the problem alive. Nope. No one wants double crossers, back stabbing <insert your favorite non Forum compliant expletive here> in their timeline. Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer - but know exactly how to tell one from another. Ask Cesar about. ("Et tu, Brute?"). I don't want to be used as a vector to monitor my friends. Well, I am. Or was. Even on my LinkedIn. I will refrain from further commenting the subject. Here. -
You copied some files on the wrong place. I suggest to delete the faulty one. There's a trick on Windows that works fine: Select the KSP directory you want to duplicate. Hit CTRL-C (Copy into the Clipboard) Hit CTRL-V (Paste from Clipboard) This will create a new directory called <original name> copy with a copy of every file/directory from the original Rename the "copy" one to whatever you want. This will garantedly duplicate the original directory ipsi literis, without mistakes! Cheers!

A heads up to people with .blend files from the 2.79 era (as I have - many!)! By some reason, opening a 2.79 .blend file on Blender > 2.8 will make the lights 10 times stronger than they should - everything will be washed out on IVAs. By importing the mu files again on Blender > 2.8, things will be fine - the problem only manifests itself by opening .blend files that had imported a mu file on the 2.79 era. It's probably some stupid configuration I need to do somewhere on 2.8 after loading the older blend file, but I'm still struggling to find it. My work around is to just set the light intensity to 10% of the original - i.e., if the light had a 250W intensity, I set it to 25W. P.S.: Remember to set the Scene Property's Units to Metric too! This will allow you to use Watts on light's intensity.

Superposition pieces bug.

If you are clipping parts on a craft, be sure you are not setting the Same Vessel Interactions on the clipped parts. Check this before hunting for a falty mod. -
Yes. And it's allowed by the license, so you won't need to be "cautious" about. The license says you can't run more than one at once, but there's no technical measure preventing it. Just be cautious not to run or delete the wrong KSP installment by accident. Believe me, it's frustrating... === == = POST EDIT = == === If you are on MacOS, read about CoW and Compression. If you are on Linux, I suggest using BTFS and using CoW and Compression. If you are on Windows, you can tell NTFS to automatically (and transparently) Compression everything inside a directory. I suggest activating it on GamaData.

Hey, case closed! In theory, it's how things should be. Security matter. Well... KSP, in an ideal world, should be doing that. But the modding scene decided to write things on GameData, and so the best practices were thrown troughs the Windows. (pun really intended). Originally, on the Windows 3.11 and 9x times, programs used to mix program code, program data and user data on the same subdirectory - some games are still this way even nowadays, and KSP is, well, more than 10 years old at this time. So, nope. In order to run KSP, the while directory and subdirectories must be owner by your user, with Read/Write rights. You will probably need to remove KSP from your C:\Program Files into somewhere into your $HOME. It's a wise decision, and I also enforce it on an add'on of mine (a library I'm building). You should never run anything you downloaded from the Internet as Administrator no matter how much you think you trust the developer. It's more than possible (in fact, it's how most malware infections happens) that someone could forge the package injecting some nasty stuff that, once is kicked in using an Administrator account will literally do whatever they want - from installing Bitcoin miners to include your computer into a botnet (not to mention stealing bank data, you name it!). And this include games. If you run KSP as Admin, every single add'on you install will run as Admin too. Good to know you don't do it. ---- Well, back to the problem - probably some Windows update decided to "fix" your KSP's access rights. There's no other option than move KSP to somewhere in your home directory and run KSP from there - it's what I do anyway, even on MacOS and Linux. Cheers!

CKAN is alright, the problem I though it could be happening happens only when launching from Steam with a unfortunate hack that induces KSP to write and read some files on the wrong place - a mess. Since you are launching from CKAN, this is not the problem. So my next best guess is that somehow the directory where KSP is installed is set to read/only. It's a possible explanation for some Assemblies not being able to read some files - not to mentino the KSP.log not being created (but I think this would create an entry on the Player.log...). Do you now how to check and maybe set a directory's owner and file permissions? Until the moment, it's the only hypothesis left - your CPU is an Intel with 8 cores and 16 threads, symmetrical (i.e., all cores with the same speed), and so a known situation that happens on assymetrycal CPUs (the e-core, p-core thingies) is not the cause for your problems. You need to be sure that the directory where KSP is installed is set to your user as owner, and that you can read and write to all files on it. If you have Steam, I would also verify the installed files.
-
Are you using Steam? If yes, did you applied that nasty hack forcing to load KSP instead of PD-Launcher? If yes, the KSP.log will be found inside de PD-Launcher - and I think this may be the reason of the borkage I'm finding in your Player.log. If yes, I strongly recommend to reset the Launch's command line to the default, and then to install KSSL instead.
-
Nope. I didn't found any "UnauthorizedAccessException" on this one. And this one was from a working session, you managed to load a savegame and get into the TrackStation, and from there to Flight on this one. Please send me exactly the KSP.log that was generated with the last Player.log you sent on this post.
-
Interesting. Now the problems appears to be many unauthorized accesses on some files: UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path "C:\Program Files\Kerbal Space Program\Logs\KSP-AVC.log" is denied. Can you please send also the KSP.log? There're some informations on file log that it's not on Player.

Found the probable cause, it's a old known troublemaker: MiniAVC -> System.IO.IOException: Sharing violation on path C:\Program Files\Kerbal Space Program\GameData\000_ClickThroughBlocker\MiniAVC.xml at System.IO.FileStream..ctor (System.String path, FileMode mode, FileAccess access, FileShare share, Int32 bufferSize, Boolean anonymous, Fi at System.IO.FileStream..ctor (System.String path, FileMode mode) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 at MiniAVC.AddonSettings.Load (System.String rootPath) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 at MiniAVC.AddonLibrary.ProcessAddonPopulation (System.Object state) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 (Filename: C:/buildslave/unity/build/artifacts/generated/common/runtime/DebugBindings.gen.cpp Line: 51) MiniAVC -> Executing: MiniAVC - 1.0.3.2 Old versions of MiniAVC are known troublemakers and, frankly, new versions are near useless - it's way better to use KSP-AVC to check for the new versions - or just use CKAN, CurseForge or other automated installer. Delete all copies of a file called "MiniAVC.dll" from your system. I think this will do the trick. If not, publish the new KSP.log and Player.log and let's keep digging.

Who never did this on KSP? (on a side note, underwear shops in the airport had a nice profit that day...)

Lisias replied to RayneCloud's topic in KSP2 Discussion
No, I don't. No one has the duty to satisfy me, it's up to me to choose to what I'm wanna expose myself into. I let someone do it to me, I would be outsourcing my own development as a human being. And you are wrong about it being a smaller problem- it was a lesser visible problem - what means that most of the vitriol these idiots produce were going unchecked. We need to shield the vulnerable from their influence, and we can't do it if we don't see what they are doing - because they DON'T STOP just because someone deleted their posts. --- -- - post edit - -- --- Let's exemplify it better. I used to have antisemitic people in my social network. It happened because I didn't knew they were, and that surely didn't coped well on my Jewish friends. Then suddenly people were allowed to post such things unchecked, and it started to appear on my timeline, and then I realized that some of that contacts really didn't fit in my timeline, what to say on my life, and gradually started to phase them out. Had that social network be still censoring that posts, I wouldn't be aware - and would risk still be surrounded by people that I don't think it fits on my life. -
Instead of Elon Musk (horrible idea) How about Dean Hall?
Lisias replied to RayneCloud's topic in KSP2 Discussion
That's the drill: I don't find any. And the reason is that I don't have any interest on such subject, and I took measures to don't have anyone witch such interests on my timeline. So, nope. I don't have a problem with this. Now, there's one positive side about: if you need to defend from such idiots, you known where to reach them and gather information about them without the need to infiltrate yourself on closed societies. People can't fight what they don't know it exists. Did you now that Twitter does comply with law enforcement when requesting information about accounts, right? -

I agree that creating a new place is a bad idea, not only someone will have to upfront some money, but running the place is a hell of a work. And places to go there're some, I don't think there's a need to create a new one - there're Steam and Reddit already, and they are moderated. I like Steam's moderation more than Reddit, but Reddit is easier to post content. I tried Discord, couldn't get a grasp on it - I'm not online all the time, and that is a live chat at best. Really messy to do anything other than bragging and ask the same questions again and again. Losing Forum will be a huge blow on historical material. A lot, really lot of useful content for both players and modders are available here, 10 years of development and playing. Losing access to it will be devastating. I don't know how to preserve it. Archive is not saving Forum pages, probably due copyright grounds (it's almost sure someone at TTI or PD requested to blacklist Forum's domain there).

And it is. But, unfortunately, it's on the job description: once you gag yourself on a NDA, you accept the risk. Been there, done that. My team The team which I belonged took the blame for a pretty stupid mistake made by an overseas team because we just couldn't talk about, and our colleagues (from the same Company, but different projects) assumed it was our fault because we refused to talk about. Sometimes, you just can't win. Indeed. But consider that it was his duty on that previous jobs. Literally, it was on his job description. To what extend this would affect our perception about his working ethics it's something we can debate about. Again, been there, done that. Fortunately I wasn't in a position in which I had to lie to 3rd parties - it was enough and sufficient to stay shut and let people conclude whatever they wanted. But, seriously, between the choice of lying or losing the job and get my cheeks ripped appart on a lawsuit that potentially would cost me my home, the choice would be obvious. It's pretty hard to rise a kid without a roof over their head, you know?
