  1. I really, really don't think so and I'm very concerned that it wont be able to recapture the challenge of KSP career mode. Despite what an extremely vocal and passionate group feels, career mode is by far the most popular way to play the game and late game career is where the main KSP gameplay loop is. We need the random mission generation and the constraints imposed by money. I am keeping an open mind, however.
  2. My hope is that it is like Minecraft: the chaos of open servers is appealing in its own way, while private servers with whitelists are safe and fun too. It will be years and years before multiplayer gets released so it's not worth worrying about. I think that they have said that their will be a space race mode, which will definitely be competitive.
  3. You're framing it very provocatively for some reason. It is a game about engineering space space missions and re-entry mechanics / challenges are a fundamental part of engineering space missions. There is also the unfortunate issue of the developers communicating that re-entry mechanics were coming very soon after launch.
  4. I hope its some combination of career mode missions + tech tree. They have taken sooo much longer to fix the basics of orbital mechanics than I ever thought, so I can even believe that we will never see science mode this year.
  5. Honestly, it's a hugely passionate community that is collectively working their way through the stages of grief. If anything, it's extremely impressive that it is as civil as it has been.
  6. The game needs a lot of work to meet the level of KSP1, and that is not taking into account 1000 part ships between stars and big bases on the planets. Its going to take a lot of time and money, which I think is the crux of the question in this thread: how much money and time does KSP2 have?
  7. Having sci fi engines make your Kerbol colonization run smoothly and easily is a good thing. In fact we should expect that the more advanced engines will make things extremely easy for "basic" rocket stuff. I strongly disagree that having advanced engines with great capabilities would ruin the fun, especially because you would have to unlock them. "Balance" in a single player game is a nebulous fallacy. The mid to late game engines should be revolutionary in power and use compared to what came before.
  8. I don't want to just be negative, but why is this something to be excited about after 3+ years of dev and a disastrous launch? Won't this delay things again by more than a year?
  9. Currently their is no real gameplay loop. Additionally, orbital mechanics doesn't work yet (trajectory change bug), and ground work does not work yet (falling through ground bug/ wheels clipping into ground bug.) The only way I was able to play was with many, many saves, extremely simple craft, and a willingness to give up after a 4 hour grind where you are fighting against the game, not the gameplay. You could also fly around the VAB in a jet, that actually works more or less.
  10. No way. Game needs gameplay beyond playing pretend in a sandbox. Most KSP1 players do career.
  11. Why are the challenges even asking for rovers when its not possible to do in the game's current state? You'll either fall through the ground or have random, violent changes in direction that destroy you even on flat terrain. Is there any ETA on playablity updates? Science mode is no good when the core mechanics are still hopelessly broken...
  12. Its 2% sadly, and although the number is probably higher, steam is by far the most popular way to be playing and there are likely far less people playing it on epic and very very few launching it without steam. I would guess that tracked steam users represent more than 50% of the players, likely significantly higher than 50%.
  13. Spent 5 hours fighting against the wiggly rockets, timewarp, and manuevar node, when I finally landed the rover on Duna it fell through the ground after spinning around without friction for 10 mins of save scumming. I'm putting the game down. Maybe I'll come back and try it next year.
  14. The playerbase is anywhere from 250 - 550 at any given time. I hope they were telling the truth about having the funding secured otherwise this game is toast.
  15. There is a very vocal, fanatically anti-career mode minority that I fear the devs ended up catering to without considering that almost all the power users are playing career mode. Its gonna be a big struggle for most of us without career mode spitting out objectives and constraints. The procedural nature of the missions is what makes it good.
  16. Basically just sorta try the missions they release on discord until the bugs and jankyness force me to stop, or after 30 savescums to save my mission from the jank. As in, barely at all.
  17. There were a few streams when it first dropped but they all ended with people raging at how unplayable and broken the game is. Interestingly, it seems that the KSP2 launch even killed all the KSP1 streams for some reason.
  18. Player count was in the 400s the other day...
  19. Yes, no career mode. It will be a campaign with a resource grind instead IIRC. Strange choice as, despite the vocal critics, career mode is the most played mode. Personally I need money and missions to really hold my attention but I'll keep and open mind to the new campaign mode, if we get there.
  20. User error. Use the black on the bottom left and not the black that has the chroma maxed out.
  21. The game is pretty much unplayable unless you are a fanatic willing to savescum your way through a minefield of game breaking bugs. There is no way they can sustain a playerbase in those conditions. That patch better come out sooner rather than later. I wish them luck and I hope they succeed.
