  1. Does it mean orbiting Kerbin? Maybe you need to be orbiting some other planet or moon.
  2. I barely built an Ike base! First, I deployed a Lantern rover to scout around for a good spot. It found a tiny ledge on the side of a mountain with a good view (not shown), high altitude (also not shown), and some decent ore. An opportunity for the Augustine shuttle to land came up before the actual base modules. The ISRU and Hub sections were the first to land. It did really well, only 18 meters from the Augustine. A match was applied to the extra oxidizer and fuel in the landing stage via the tracking station. Oh no! Oh dear! We don't have enough boosters! Quicksave time! I totally did not realize that the craft with the Hab, Power, and Docking modules did not have enough dV. I quicksaved back to orbit, and then thought about my life choices. Should I send another one from Kerbin? Should I try to land without the Power module? "My Augustine still has some fuel left!" said Valentina. It was time for a radical plan B. I have some serious doubts about this, Val. The Augustine successfully docked and the useless, underpowered landing stage was sacrificed to the Kraken. Unfortunately, the Kraken was unsatisfied with this measly offering and I only barely managed to save this massive, flailing pool noodle by rapidly spamming the "grandparent part" autostrut. The good news: we have seven times as much dV. The bad news: an Ike TWR less than four, an off-center COT, and the landing gear on the Augustine and the base are facing opposite directions. Oh dear. Oh dear! OH DEAR! "Tada!" said Valentina. There was much rejoicing as no random spurts of fire and noise shot out of anywhere. Docking the last module onto the hub! Oh yeah! Base assembled! I can't wait until morning so I can actually see it! Now I gotta go build one on Duna...
  3. Bam! 5 seconds later! @Superfluous J
  4. I was actually scouting for a good Duna base site today, so I may as well enter! I'm actually planning on building a base here tomorrow. Here's a picture of the spot I chose. I'm not really sure what a "Science Biome" is, but you can do science here and there are five BG thingies within 1km. I am planning on landing a spaceplane here, so it's a low altitude Landing Zone at less than 400 meters. There are a few more reasons for this spot. A big one is that the ore is in the double digits, the third best spot I found on the planet (in this save). Another is that it's pretty equatorial, so I don't have to worry much about orbit inclination. The third reason is that I have 24/7 line of sight to the spot on Ike where I am also planning on putting a base. The fourth and final reason is that it is perfectly flat, so landing planes is easy and the base won't slide around. Lemme know if the information in those two pictures is inadequate to score this properly. Edit: I would also recommend adding whether Ike is visible to the scoring. The reasons are that it is possible to get constant coverage from an Ike lander relay, and that I would get more points.
  5. Wanna figure out how to evade the moderators? <snip>
  6. Ahem. Straight out of the guidelines. BANNED BANNED BANNED BANNED BANNED BANNED BANNED BANNED! BANNED! This thread is now locked.
  7. I'm gonna serve my kids Eggs Benedict on plates made from hub caps this up coming Christmas. Why? There's no Plate like Chrome for the Hollandaise.
  8. It's better to get a lower Pe right off, that way you can blast through a lot of the SOI at escape velocity and it won't have time to accelerate you as much. P.S. I hope you mean "Kerbin to Moho" because if you try to get a 50km Kerbin orbit, you will get a nasty surprise instead...
  9. Oh dear. My closest is now less than 100m, although I can't be sure how close it was, the other craft went by so fast. I had a base in the Mun canyon, and I refueled an LF tanker and a spaceplane there. Pictured here: I launched them both to a prograde (or so I thought) 7km orbit (as low as I deem safe) within a few minutes of each other. Only, there's something a little fishy about the spaceplane's NavBall here: All I saw was a huge white blur zip really close and the distance marker went into the double digits. I just hate how the red 'N' marker is actually on the southern side of the NavBall.
  10. I successfully claimed Minmus for all Kerbalkind by landing a rover, building a base, and docking a spaceplane: And then I sent an army off to conquer the Duna system. Multi-module bases are sometimes a real pain this way.
  11. I'm not sure it would be very comforting to have a whole bunch of dead kerbals lying around the ground with their helmets smashed.
  12. This looks interesting, but I have a couple issues. 1. There should probably be a part count limit. Maybe a 10-part maximum to prevent dozens of mega-modules from murdering lower-end laptops. 2. I think the modules should be Stock Parts Only to enable everybody to contribute.
  13. Uh oh. It's the moderator team. Gotta disrupt the chain! @HansonKerman, help!
  14. *Kills Jeb on first launch without reverts* *Goes and edits save file* Yup, I've done that more times than I would like to admit.
  15. I delivered a load of 20 kerbals to my new ISRU Mun base in the canyon with an LF-only single stage shuttle! Thanks to @Hotel26 for helping refine the shuttle design!
  16. This would be an awesome way to do the "Chaos is a Ladder" challenge!
  17. Scouting for a good, flat spot for a Mun base, I never realized this part of the Mun even existed.
