Continuing to mess around with micro stations! Last time, Jebediah was stranded aboard ASS due to... minor miscalculations. So Valentina was sent out aboard an all new crew shuttle, decked out with the latest in Kerbal technologies: two seats! It's a tiny bit uncomfortable, but whatever. Liftoff! After the boosters were separated, Valentina heard and explosion, and felt an oscillation around the craft. It was found to be just a decoupler, and the launch proceeded. Success! Valentina arrives at ASS with lots of fuel too spare. She boards the module with Jeb, who's very excited to have a way back home. The crew now can just chill. "So, uh... how's life been treating you?" -Jebediah Kerman

Messing around with Micro Stations! I decided to call the space station the Astro Space Station, or ASS. Yeah, I realized that a little too late... And with that, the space station was ready for inhabitants. Out first inhabitant is, of course, Jeb. However, I didn't quite think too well when making the shuttle craft. Turns out I added the wrong docking port to it. And I also ran out of fuel. Oopsie... Jeb was told by mission control to shut down everything in the space craft, and to EVA over to ASS. Watching my failures float away... Valentina will be sent up in a 2-seater command module, and live with Jeb on his fifty day mission. Things are definitely going to get a little bit cramped though.

The symbols look like a crude mixture of English and Runic. And the letters and symbols also look scrambled.

Beyond: Kerbalkind's History of Space Exploration

WAK KORPORAL: YEAR 2, DAY 31 Lol k puns... As a special request by the UKA, we are launching their sounding rocket design the WAK Koporal. We have no idea what it's launching though. They said it was classified payload. Why would they cover up what they were launching? And why did they want it launched from Woomerang, and not the KSC? Do they not want the public to know what's inside? We ca ponder as much as we want, but we will probably never get answers. The rocket made it to about 90km before electric charge ran out and signals were lost. The rocket crashed in the nearby mountains. -
Nice! 10000 m/s is a tiny bit overkill . I think this goes in KSP 2 mission reports. This is KSP 1 mission reports.

Where were those city textures? Did you have mods installed, because I don't think there's any city texture in the game.

I created a flag for my made-up government Kerbin government, the United Kerbin Administration. It's a global government, as I believe that Kerbals aren't corrupt and would have the capabilities to run the world under a single body with little consequence. Without further ado, here's the flag!

JEBINI 6: YEAR 2, DAY 26 BYE... Jebini 6 just docking to Kermes Station With this flight, the Jebini 6 program comes to a close. This will be the final stay on Kermes Station, and with no plans to extend it, it's just going to be left orbiting Kerbin pretty much forever. While a gloomy fate, Kerbin will not forget it. Jebini and Kermes have proven that Kerbalkind can achive anything, and were an important step on the road to... DUNA Debo going for here EVA outside of Kermes Station -
The colony theory has been added to the OP!

Beyond: Kerbalkind's History of Space Exploration

ORBITAL RESOURCE ENHANCER: YEAR 2, DAY20 Oil? Oil!!!!!!!! O.R.E. in orbit Today, Beyond launches up their newest research vessel, the Orbital Resource Enhancer, or O.R.E. O.R.E. will do a scan of Kerbin's surface to try and find natural resources under it's surface. While the excavation of natural gas for commercial purposes is illegal, other natural resources like rare-Kerbin metals might be beneficial for Kerbin. It could make it easier for UKA surveys and commercial crews looking for rare-Kerbin metals. The rocket launching it will, of course, be the all-powerful Kitten II rocket. One of the most reliable rockets ever built. However though, it's time is limited. As the Eve I rocket advances, the Kitten II is quickly becoming obsolete. As payloads become heavier and require a further distance than the Kerbin system, the Kitten II will soon be retired, as it will have no more use. It's a sad day for everyone who's worked with this rocket, but it served us well for how long it was used. -
I really think that the plant theory is the strongest. Specialized cells in Kerbals that allow them to photosynthesize makes the most sense, considering they can shoved inside a pod with just snacks for years. The idea that they're semi-autotrophic makes the most sense, considering real life examples can be drawn from. But I do like the idea that Kerbals are colonies of various different fungi, plants, and bacteria. A real life example could be drawn from that too, the Portuguese Man O' War. I might edit the OP to have that additional theory...

This has been a debate for years now in the KSP community. What are Kerbals? Some people theorize that they’re plants, some people theorize they’re fungi, some people theorize they;'re animals, and some people people have even theorized that colonies of organisms! I have built off these theories, and here’s what I’ve come up with so far. THE PLANT THEORY It’s a tiny bit bizarre to think Kerbals are entirely plants. They do eat other things, and have a brain (albeit not much of one). But I do have theory that could still incorporate photosynthesis. In real life, there’s an animal called Elysia Chlorotica, or Emerald Green Sea Slug, that can photosynthesize. This is because they eat algae. From the algae, they take their genes and chloroplasts via specialized pouches in their intestines. This then allows them to photosynthesize. They can go months without food. Kerbals might do the same thing Kerbals are obviously very food driven. And they probably eat a lot. Perhaps they too have specialized pouches in their intestines, which collect genes and chloroplasts from, let’s say, veggie snacks? Now, obviously, Kerbals are bigger than sea slugs. So perhaps they’re able to photosynthesize for several years at a time, and that’s what makes them able to be in space for so long. THE COLONY THEORY Kerbals could possibly be not one organism, but multiple put together to form one massive, moving colony. A real life example could also be drawn from this one too. The Portuguese Man O’ War is often thought of as a jellyfish, but it’s actually a massive floating colony with organisms that work together to feed themselves. If Kerbals are like this, it’d explain why they can live pretty much forever. Plants photosynthesize to make food for a Kerbal, and fungi and bacteria decompose dead matter and reproduce to replenish the shape of the colony, making the Kerbal, once again, a pretty much immortal being. THE FUNGI THEORY Fungi is indeed a very good theory too. Kerbals look a lot like fungus, with their flat and round heads. So the idea that they’re fungus isn’t too far off. Perhaps they evolved from a fungus with some kind of fuzz on top of it, that slowly became able to walk and move, and it eventually became an animal. It still maintained its fungal features, though. Fungi though, however, are heterotrophs, and feed off dead organisms. So unless Kerbals feed off their souls, the fungus theory isn’t too strong. THE ANIMAL THEORY Kerbals are most likely animals. They are quite clearly some kind of mobile heterotroph. But they are very specialized animals. I think think the fact that their semi-autotrophic makes the most sense. But, perhaps you think something else. Note to mods: I don’t know if this fits in KSP 1 discussion, KSP 2 discussion, or KSP fan works. Put it where you think it goes.

Beyond: Kerbalkind's History of Space Exploration
Kerbalsaurus replied to Kerbalsaurus's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
JEBINI 5 CREW RETURN: YEAR 2, DAY 14 I ran out of ideas for subheadings... Crew: Stamon, Jully Jebini 5 heads back home with more science and information about long term crew habitation. The crew say that they're time on the station was, once again, quite cramped. But it was still a pretty cozy space station, all things considered. The crew found out that a good place to relax is by the windows when they're not working in the laboratory/airlock. However though, Kermes Station's time is limited. With one more mission to go, Beyond starts to design new space station that can support the crew for 100 days, 200 days, perhaps even a year or more. In the meantime though, Beyond will continue operations on Kermes Station. -
This is probably my favorite screenshot I've ever taken. It's also the picture on my desktop. This is Albert Kerman, going for her EVA on Jebini 4. This was the first crew to stay at Kermes Station.

Tim Kerman started to come to. A familiar voice ran through his head, yelling out his name. Suddenly, he jumped up. He opened his (non-psychotic) eyes in a hospital ward. He was quite confused, though. Last thing he knew, he was on the Mun researching the mysterious Stargate. Next thing he knew, he was here. A doctor ran in surprised he had woken up. "How are you alive? You were asleep for a month! Some hiker found you badly injured on a mountain side!" the doctor yelled out. "Well, first thing I know I'm on the Mun, the ne-" Tim was cut off by the doctor. "The Mun? How would you be standing on the Mun's surface? It's extremely far away from any where!" "What? But I remember! The gray dust, my lander, and my crew mates! I was wearing a space suit, maybe you have that? "Well, you were wearing something. But it wasn't a space suit. Nobody's even been to space yet! You fell off the side of a mountain." "I was on the Mun, Dr... Arlep Kerman!" Arlep walked out of the room to talk to another doctor. "He's clearly delusional. He thinks he was on the Mun. He was wearing a pressure suit when we found him. Maybe he's a pilot who's gone mad?" Arlep said. "Well, how can we diagnose him if we don't who he is? I'll go in and ask him" the other doctor said. She walked in to the room, and proceeded to ask Tim as many questions as she could to figure out who he really was, and what he was doing. He told her his name, and continuously said that he was on a top secret mun mission, that the public didn't know about. He mentioned who his crew mates were, Joemon Kerman and Anfield Kerman. But they didn't exist on any records. Not even Tim did. The doctor walked out of the room, confused about the story Tim was telling. However, he wasn't any harm to himself or anybody else. And all of his injuries had healed. So the hiker who found him was called over and picked Tim up. Tim was given his pressure suit, as it was the piece of clothing he owned (the hospital wouldn't let him keep his gown). A Kerbal named Virsen Kerman was the one who founded Tim. He was muttering gibberish about the Mun and something called Stargate. She couldn't know exactly what had happened to him, but he was badly injured. As if he fell out of the sky. "Hi Tim," Virsen said. "I imagine we'll be roommates from now on! I'm sure you'll enjoy my place even if it is a pretty crumby apartment. Tim just looked confused. "Well, come on! get in the car!" And off Tim went, off on his strange new adventure.
