Weekly Challenge #29 Traversing a Starfield
NexusHelium replied to Nerdy_Mike's topic in Challenges & Mission Ideas
Oh this is perfect. I really like basing my ships off of movies and video games. -
Environmental & Terrain Surface collision not even with terrain mesh
NexusHelium replied to Anth's topic in v0.1.5
Yeah, this happens with almost all planets I've seen. Sometimes I'll reload a save and my craft will be below the surface. I've also seen instances of them only falling slightly through the surface (On Laythe) and Kerbals just hovering on the surface. Not a great bug for someone who likes making bases. -
Yeah, the same thing happens to me... on certain occasions. I think it has something to do with the terrain loading. Because sometimes. I will look at a celestial body or even in the sky and get as low as 7 to 3 FPS and I'm pretty sure that the current terrain loading has caused this. I have only noticed these sudden and random frame drops (Especially even when I'm looking at the sky) when I updated to 1.4. I hope they've made some BIG progress on that new terrain generation update that they teased... in March.

Reported Version: v0.1.4 (latest) | Mods: none | Can replicate without mods? Yes OS: Windows 11 | CPU: Intel i7 | GPU: Geforce 1080 | RAM: 12 GB Severity: Medium Frequency: Very high To make a long story short. Laythe's collision mesh is a little broken. At least on the beaches (Where I first noticed it.) First, the distance from the sea level said 623 m even though I was only about 20 meters above. The ground said 600 meters (Which I guess makes sense seeing as I was only 20 meters off the ground but still) Second, I believe that it was patch 2 that added the whole "You can't see through the ground thing" And you can see through the ground on the beaches of Laythe. (Again, could be related to the whole "Still 600 meters off the ground and sea" thing) It could be other places on Laythe or other places in general but this is where I've noticed it. Third and last, my ship will sometimes clip through the ground and not like the whole saving and loading thing. It clips through the ground though, strangely, only a few meters and not 600 meters. The Kerbals on EVA can also cause this clipping and, more on the EVA, the Kerbals do not clip through the ground. They simply hover in place a little bit above the ground. I've been trying to establish a base on Laythe (Because in my opinion it has one of the prettiest skies and this bug has made it very hard as I really like landing on the beaches. If this bug could be fixed in a later patch that would be perfect. Thanks! The picture attached is about where I noticed it. Included Attachments:

Today (well, yesterday). I tried for a Jool V mission. Unfortunately. While aerobraking, I miscalculated my orbit and accidentally landed on Jool instead of Laythe (The moon I was aiming for first.) Poor Bill.

No no no... You cannot be pals with the Kraken. It's just not possible. He will either resort to violence or give you the cold shoulder. There are no pals.
-
Not bad man! That's a great looking ship too. I always try to make my ships look pretty whenever I travel which... may explain why it takes so long for me to go interplanetary. The kraken is no joke...

Reentry Heating Effects with Chris 'Mortoc' Mortonson - KSP 2 Dev Chat
NexusHelium replied to Nerdy_Mike's topic in Dev Chats
That's true but remember. This is work in progress. I'm sure that the glow that should accumulate at the source of the compression will come with the new thermal system. Adding it with that makes more sense to me. -
Reentry Heating Effects with Chris 'Mortoc' Mortonson - KSP 2 Dev Chat
NexusHelium replied to Nerdy_Mike's topic in Dev Chats
The amount of the atmosphere would increase and thus, as sound waves work, so would the sound. -
Reentry Heating Effects with Chris 'Mortoc' Mortonson - KSP 2 Dev Chat
NexusHelium replied to Nerdy_Mike's topic in Dev Chats
It probably wouldn't for this first few seconds but it's rapidly descending into the atmosphere so it would get progressively louder. Which is a cool thing to think about in terms of what the game will do. Because you can still hear things in the game it's just a little more subtle than in the atmosphere. -
Reentry Heating Effects with Chris 'Mortoc' Mortonson - KSP 2 Dev Chat
NexusHelium replied to Nerdy_Mike's topic in Dev Chats
At least it won't be the subtle, red glow from KSP 1. It's a lot smoother and a stroke of genius if you were to ask me. Most games don't get it quite right (KSP 1 included) I also imagine that the sound design will be a lot better. -
Reported Version: v0.1.4 (latest) | Mods: none | Can replicate without mods? Yes OS: Windows 11 | CPU: Intel (I think) i7 | GPU: Geforce 1080 | RAM: 12 GB Severity: Medium (Unless you have a decent understanding of gravity and orbital mechanics Frequency: Medium (So far ((As far as I'm concerned)) it's just been with Moho) So I've been playing the game for a while and have landed and sent probes to all the planets and moons. A couple days ago I just decided to challenge myself and send a single launch space station to Moho (Sorry for the backstory). After I got Moho in a good transfer window, I created the maneuver for the Moho injection orbit and I managed to get it to about 50,000 meters. Though the encounter symbol did not show up. Now, I've been playing the KSP franchise for a little over 6 or 7 years now and I try to understand orbital mechanics as a hobby so I knew that it was (Unless the planet had the density of Aerogel... swiss cheese) close enough to enter the SOI but I could see how this could confuse and concern new players. I'm personally fine and I love the game but I just am concerned that this may deter new players from the game. So if this bug could be looked at that would be perfect.

Construction Strut symmetry locked and unchangeable.
NexusHelium replied to NexusHelium's topic in v0.1.4
Oh, my bad. I accidentally canceled the update on steam. I was mistaken. -
Weekly Challenge #28: Explore Vall

They're new. It's an easter egg. I mean honestly, global warming is even hitting Vall. Yeesh. Here's a picture: -
Random Challenge: Outer Wilds Ventures VTOL
NexusHelium posted a topic in Challenges & Mission Ideas
This is a bit of a random challenge for all those Outer Wilds fans out there (If there be any) The challenge requirements go as follows: - Create a replica of the Outer Wilds spaceship (Here's a 3d Model:) https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/outer-wilds-the-ship-f6797d8650794c8387708f7ef78ee0d5 (Or picture down below) Picture: - USE COLORS. I don't particularly want to see the basic black and white of KSP2. Express yourself! You can make it look like the actual Outer Wilds ship or you can make it your own colors. I like both! - Have working multi-directional engines (I.e. engines that can be flown in any direction using engines pointed in other directions) ((Action groups, though they are a little broken, are great for this.)) - NO REFUEL MISSIONS IN SPACE. All of your fuel has to be on the ship itself... (Good luck!) Here are the levels of difficulty: Model ship level (Tutorial): - Figure out how to fly the ship! These things are a little finicky and, once you attach an unholy amount of struts, fly it around a little! Slate Level (Easy) - Create the Outer Wilds ship and fly it in a suborbital trajectory (Fly up) to at least 30,000 meters and (OPTIONAL) perform a manual inspection of the ship (I hear Slate has not done a good job this time)... You can crash land if you want. BONUS POINTS: Land! (Splashdown, I guess) EXTRA BONUS POINTS: Land on land! (Land... down...?) Riebeck Level (Easy Medium) - Create the Outer Wilds Ventures ship and get all the way to space on a suborbital trajectory (70,000 meters straight up). Fly back down and either crash or... BONUS POINTS: Touch down safely on the ground... It's... probably possible. EXTRA BONUS POINTS: Touch down at either the KSC or the Old Airfield (Yes, it's still there) Gabbro Level (Difficult Medium) - Create the Outer Wilds Ventures ship and get to an orbital trajectory around Kerbin. Then, carefully deorbit and touch down safely ON LAND (No splashdowns.) BONUS POINTS: If you land back at the KSC EXTRA BONUS POINTS: If you land on either the launch pad or the helicopter pad. Hatchling level (Difficult) - Create the Outer Wilds Ventures ship and get to an Orbital trajectory around Kerbin. Plan your maneuvers just right because we're going to the Mun! Yup that's right! Pilot your ship to the mun and touch down safely without too much part damage (A couple explosions here and there are normal). BONUS POINTS: Get back to Kerbin! Normally I wouldn't allow refuels but, just this once, you get ONE refuel! (Extra bonus points if you don't use a refuel mission) EXTRA BONUS POINTS: Land again! See if this ship can fly multiple times! Feldspar lever (NEAR TO IMPOSSIBLE) - Create the Outer Wilds Ventures ship... yadayadayda. If you can... Go to Minmus or beyond. I want to see how far you guys can go! I will allow one extra refuel for every planet you cross (ex. Minmus: 1, Duna: 2, Dres: 3, so on and so forth) BONUS POINTS: If you either return to Kerbin or get OUT of the Kerbolar System (Aim for DebDeb you guys!) both of those will be awarded bonus points. EXTRA BONUS POINTS: Why not do both? This may be a bit of a stretch but try your best to get out of the Kerbolar system and then come back! POINT SYSTEM - 1 point for each requirement you complete (I would really like to see them all completed) - 1 point for each level completed (I.e. Model ship is one, Slate is two, Riebeck is three and so on) - 5 points for every bonus point level you complete (If you complete the extra bonus you get 10) - 2 points for every extra little gimmick you add (Point them out in your post!) Total up your points and let me know how you did you guys! -
Reported Version: v0.1.4 (latest) | Mods: none | Can replicate without mods? Yes OS: Windows 11 | CPU: Pretty sure it's a Geforce 1070 (The game runs fine) | GPU: Not sure (I'm don't have access at this moment) | RAM: Again, not sure. Severity: Low (It's just bothered me a little, it's not a HUGE inconvenience.) Frequency: High (Happens whenever I click the strut.) Version: 0.1.4.0.whatever the next numbers were. Time: Yesterday, I guess. I'm not sure if this is a bug or a placeholder or whatever. If it is, feel free to tell me. But whenever I try to place struts it locks on to whatever symmetry I had on whatever piece I used last, whether it be 2, 4, etc. And I can't change it. The symmetry button will be grayed out and I will not be able to change it. Even if I press the keyboard shortcut for symmetry (X) it refuses to change. I can still use the struts and stuff and change the symmetry after I place or get rid of the "Ghost" part, I just can't change the symmetry while... I'm about to place it. I have to change the symmetry AND THEN place the struts to get the symmetry I want. Again, if this is intentional as a feature, please change it but if it's intentional as a placeholder, do whatever you like. And if it's a bug, well, now you know it exists. I love the game so far and I get fine performance (Only about 50% of the time but whatever) this has just bugged me for a little bit now.

KSP2 Release Notes - Update v0.1.4.0
NexusHelium replied to Intercept Games's topic in KSP2 Dev Updates
Well, for the good news... Rather than having three FPS whenever I look down at a celestial body... I now get 7! ... It's slow but it is happening. -
But hey, if they uncovered that big of a problem in a patch. It's got to be either a big or a really good one. Keep up the good work guys.
