  1. Yes. Simply because it is right. It's the entire concept of a martyr. Of course, you get to decide what action you think is "right" in any given situation.
  2. We on the Texas coast would like to thank our Floridians for taking this hurricane. Please feel free to keep it. There's no need to let it pass through into the Gulf. And good luck, guys. Let us know when you get the power back on.
  3. Damn straight! I love fresh, ripe tomatoes! The ones you get from the store are horrible, waxy, flavorless things. Real garden or farmer's market tomatoes are absolute heaven!
  4. I think I might have that in my collection somewhere. (I checked. I do have it, plus a couple on commandos and France, specifically.) I've never played GURPS, though. Besides the D&D, we've done Vampire/Mage/Werewolf, Shadowrun, a couple of home-brewed sci-fi systems, and Cavemaster. We're usually running a couple of games, switching out each week.
  5. Sounds interesting. Our group has kicked around the idea of a French Resistance theme.
  6. I've used it on and off. It's one of those "This should be built in" things, though.
  7. Pilots being able to execute the maneuver nodes I create.
  8. I feel old now. When I was 12, everything in We Didn't Start the Fire had already happened. The only spaceflight games I had played were Spacewar! and Asteroids.
  9. Yeah, I (think I) understand. I just oppose the way it's worded. Should be "Colonies don't grow unless you manually bring Kerbals in or <certain conditions are met>". Simply stating that they don't grow is not quite sufficient to cover the actuality. (But, I might be being a bit too pedantic.)
  10. You accidentally misspelled "the flashiest graphics".
  11. Interesting. But: So, do they grow or not? That statement is not self-consistent.
  12. As long as it fits the situation. I'd hate to see that in a Mercury/Vostok level capsule. Orion? Let's have it! Yes. Yes, yes, and YES! Also, a first-person EVA.
  13. Well, I guess I'll accept Linux users1 as "people"... If I have to. 1I use Linux when I find it useful. I even have a bin directory to make the Windows command line actually useful. It's not always the right answer, but sometimes, it is. Macs, however... 15% of users, 80% of problems.2 2There are good Mac users, of course. Marcus, for example.
  14. "The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated." -Mark Twain1 Kerbal Space Program, Sr. 1"It is my belief that nearly any invented quotation, played with confidence, stands a good chance to deceive." -Mark Twain, Following the Equator, November 1897
  15. Good thinking. Giant, mobile towers, hundreds of kilometers high1, with enough power to magnetically throw an aircraft carrier. Once we manage that engineering, we've got quite a few problems knocked out. What does that level of magnetic field mean to any electronics in the projectile vehicle? And what could go wrong with high-altitude nuclear detonations? "hundreds of kilometers in the air" "tall enough to escape much of the denser atmopsheric layer" If you don't see what's wrong with that, you really need to start over at square one. 1And flexible ones, no less, else they wouldn't exactly lay flat and out of the way when not in use, would they?
  16. I found out that my co-worker of the 10.5 years I've been at my job is quitting in about two weeks. I'm slightly anxious about it, and other plans for our area. New management people took over our area at the agency level last year, and started coming up with crazy ideas. One major thing they did was get rid of the group that handled our job at HQ for the agency, and tried to farm the work out to the centers. It was soon realized that this wasn't going to work, and they created a new group to handle the agency-level work. They moved the top technical person in Florida to that group early this year, and now they've snagged my co-worker. He is the top technical person in the agency in our area, and he'll still be available for questions, but I'm so used to having him on the other side of the cube wall to bounce ideas off of. Plus, I'll be the only person in our department at the center. Local management doesn't know yet, and I'm not sure what they're going to do. I'm terrified that they might want to put me reporting to the other team lead in our office (different department). She's not the easiest to work with, and her personality grates on my nerves. The two people under her have been frantically looking for other jobs for a while now. Another idea HQ has been looking at is consolidating the various center groups into a single agency-wide group, and getting rid of half (depending on how you count, there's 12-20 people), down to eight. I know who four of those people would be. Plus, they're planning to switch us to a new software early next year. The last time we did that, it took three years to convert everything to the new system. The good news is that my soon-to-be-former-co-worker will not be relocating. They're letting him telework from Houston, so he'll still make the weekly D&D sessions.
  17. Kanamits would be even worse. They'd have no use for aged ones, and would cull the herd.
  18. I've watched a 9 year old explain how to play the game to a former Chief Engineer for Shuttle.
  19. Or they haven't figured out exactly how they're doing it, or how to explain what (and why) they're doing it the way they are.
  20. As well as: They're saying they will have more information later, not that they're pushing it into a later patch.
  21. We don't know all the details. We don't even know how accurate the reporting on the case is. My idea was posted before I went and actually looked at what I could on the case. However, there are other possibilities that could exist, for example: was person A using person B's login information to access the account? Simply put, we don't know, we aren't likely to know, and the best we're ever going to get is idle internet armchair lawyering.
  22. Depending on what paperwork has been filed, there may be Temporary Restraining Orders in place that limit what each party can do with what assets. (Although, I don't see any TRO in this case.)
