R.I.P. Bill Kerman Famous Last words "WHO FORGOT TO BOLT THE HANDLE TO THE DOOR"

I have too say most of these games are good even if coming from a **** company that will not get any of my money. I think at least half the reason I love humble is getting to snub companies by legally getting their games without giving them money. Mirror's Edge is an awesome game anyone should play at least once, I would recommend a second play with the highlighting turned off. Burnout Paradise is one of the best in the series and thus one of the best arcade race/crash games of all time. Medal of Honor and BF3 are different but both enjoyable FPS games. Crysis 2 I have no experience with. Dead Space 1 & 3 (wtf no 2?) is horror something I don't normally get into but I hear they are good and will try them out. Sims... Anyone want a free sims game?

Why are solid rockets considered unsafe?
drakesdoom replied to Stinkk's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Once it is established that rockets are slow controlled bombs I think it becomes clear any task involving rocket fuel of any type is terrifying. -
In all reality wind turbines are harvesting solar energy that has already been converted into kinetic energy known as wind by the weather patterns of the earth which are established by the uneven heating of the air by the sun.

Spaceship like "Discovery One" from 2001 Space Odyssey
drakesdoom replied to Pawelk198604's topic in Science & Spaceflight
That is only if you want a reaction less spin up of the wheel. There could have been reaction wheels built into it around the entrance locks to counter the momentum or they could have used thrusters to counter the spin. If it wont be spun up or down often that could be feasible. -
When the tradition that "only women wear skirts" came out?
drakesdoom replied to Cesrate's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Well the armored skirts that warriors wore in the roman and earlier times were short because of how the balance of weapons sat at the time. Basically a light leg hit wouldn't matter much as with swords it would always be on the outside where you will not bleed out since the main veins are on the inside of the leg. A strong hit that could cut through the leg was not worth adding armor for for two reasons. First without hardened steel armor was much heavier for the same protection as compared to later times. Secondly even with armored legs that same blow would then just sweep your legs and then it would be trivial to finish you off on the ground. The skirts only real purpose was protecting the jewels. -
One tip, turn off auto repair. There are two check boxes in the lower left you want the one for repair unchecked. All planes are repaired 10 times for free instantly and after that you can still repair them for free it just takes some time. At low levels you can play arcade with all five countries and by the time you are done the first set of planes will be repaired.

Incredibly Stupid, Clumsy, and/or Painful Things You Have Done
drakesdoom replied to bigyihsuan's topic in The Lounge
Military school taught me so much about fire saftey. We had a pep rally before the big football game against the other military school in the state and following tradition every company throws a "sacrifice" on the fire. The "sacrifice" is some object made to degrade the other team and stuffed with FIREWORKS. Ours was a doll stuffed into a foot locker and contained everything from sparklers up through 3 in mortars and unknown to faculty a new extra large can of spray paint. It all started well nice pillar of flames from the wood and synthetic pillow stuffing, then some small bangs and whistles. The mortars were a little hairy, one skimmed the crowd so low it knocked off a hat before exploding in the field behind everyone. After that it died down. The next company started presenting their "sacrifice" and that's when it happened. The paint can exploded, The fire ball was around a 15 foot diameter and rose to around 50 feet in the air. The commandant a retired two star general and his 2nd a retired major where walking around the bonfire and were engulfed in the explosion. No major injuries but they lost all exposed body hair and both of their uniforms were scorched and ruined. They never could prove we caused it either... -
What do you think of Deus Ex like augmentations?
drakesdoom replied to EvilotionCR2's topic in Science & Spaceflight
It is not highly addictive, just that without it you experience rejection and since so much of you is now fake you die. Also you knew this when you got the implants to start with so no one is tricking you into anything. -
As Mr shifty has said in much better words it is more a problem of keeping them running and non critical. I have heard of a pulse fusion rocket in the works that magnetically fires bands of metal at a pellet, the combined force of the magnetic fields from the bands driving a small fusion explosion. Supposedly everything is working separately and funding for a test bed was secured.

You know this is all the Wright brothers fault. If they had not started all these stupid juvenile stunts in 1903 none of this would have happened. We would all be so much better off getting around by boat and blimp, no need to waste precious resources on "flying." Space, space is right out, poppycock.

Hey those had to be properly tested, if they landed off target they could have been stuck in them for hours.

The really crazy server rooms are off net, communication is only through hand carried removable drives. A pain to upgrade since if anything goes wrong you have to leave, get the files you need and have them cleared before you can take them in just to get back to work.

Yet another strike for the typical CoD player
drakesdoom replied to stupid_chris's topic in The Lounge
People are complaining about the new SAS? Isn't this what many mods have been trying to work out for some time now? -
User: Drakesdoom American Bomber Pilot Mainly in PBY for now Also historically the PBY was an odd plane and was critical in the defense against the Japanese in Alaska. Unfortunately they don't let you dive bomb with it like it was actually used.

Or you could but up all those under priced goods and hoard them until prices come up and make a profit that way.
-
See I think I found your problem, you have an annoying friend. Step 1, Tell him he is annoying ignorant tool and to go jump off a bridge. Step 2, ??? Step 3, Profit!

New data storage material has unlimited lifetime
drakesdoom replied to Latcarf's topic in Science & Spaceflight
(Near) Unlimited shelf life, anytime you are writing data with a laser their is an upper limit on how many times you can rewrite to a location. -
"Life" would be just fine their. Not only are their many forms of life that could care less about radiation but also Europa is believed to have liquid water under the surface which is the best known radiation shield in the universe. Intelligent Life on the other hand would probably not develop there and would have a hard time visiting as well.

I had a though today about muscles. Muscles produce lactic acid as part of the glycolysis cycle. It is my understanding that the buildup of this acid is what causes your muscles to get sore during heavy work loads. The muscles can easily outpace the bodies ability to remove the acid and they can only have so much acid in the tissue and still function. Now when you stretch you can get a very similar feeling, my thought was that there is always some acid wrapped up deep in the muscle and that when you stretch it is dislodged and that's what you are feeling. Thus you are giving yourself an acid bath. Probably total bs as biology was always my weakest science, there is a reason I like machines.

The sounds were somewhat muffled and even in hard vacuum you don't die instantly, and the air coming through the portal would be quite a bit more air then hard vacuum.

Billion Pixel View of Mars - Curiosity
drakesdoom replied to Voidryder's topic in Science & Spaceflight
I understand the view is many patched together photos but does anyone know why the section with the rover body is black and white?
