  1. That is brilliant! Here is my contribution, when I tried to make a viable ion drive ship. It wasn't very viable.
  2. Perhaps my dumbest mission involved a "base" on Minmus. I quote base, because it was simply a vertical structure. That wasn't what was dumb though. It looked ok, but I decided it was too small and needed to make it bigger. There was a single docking port on top of the structure, so I decided I could launch a new piece and dock it on top. I spent an hour trying and failing. Then I decided that maybe Mech-Jeb would help, I downloaded it and installed it, and it just seemed to make it harder. Perhaps I didn't know what I was doing. I think I spent 3 hours just trying to get this to work before deciding it was impossible. I then built a new base the size I wanted, and landed it whole on Minmus in about 15 minutes.
  3. Decided I needed to make a geosynchronous orbit. Of course, it needed to be big, launched in 2 parts. I tried to make a dish/telescope thing at the front, though it didn't look so good, so I might refine it later.
  4. I'd like to see multiple random solar systems to go to. If there could be a seed for your universe, that determined what stars were around etc. The main problem with the game now is that once you do something there is little motivation to do it again, ie if I land on moho, I don't need to do it again. If we had random solar systems, there is always something new to see!
  5. The largest I ever did was 5 orange tanks, whatever that weighs. Since then, I decided to never do so again! My standard fuel tanker is about 3.5 orange tanks, with structure, 2 nukes and 2 big RCS tanks.
  6. My longest useful burn was about 1hr long (long time ago now). It was a really heavy ship going to Jool or something like that. At least I could do it on 4x time acceleration, since the ship was stable, but from that point on I decided for ships that big, they get at least 2 nukes! My longest non-useful burn was about 5hrs. I decided I wanted to build something useful with ion engines. I built something massive, with about 30 ion engine, hoping to get some decent velocity. It was still slow. I turned on the engines and let it go. It took about an hour to escape Kerbin. I just let it keep going and went to do other things. Later it was still going, on a highly elliptical solar orbit. It had the delta-v to escape but I decided to just stop it there and leave it on that orbit. That was the point I gave up on ion engines.
  7. I like how your initial reaction is belief that he can do it rather than "That is pure madness!" I too want to see it happen!!
  8. I'm with you. I can't remember why I joined specifically - I played KSP for a while before I joined the forums, but the forum is good, with plenty of smart conversations happening. Of course there are some stupid conversations, but the majority are not, and I haven't seen a multiplayer thread in a while, which is good. After reading all the posts in this thread, I am wondering about pewdiepie. I've never watched on of his videos, but based on the comments I've read here, it sounds like one of those cases where "you cannot unsee what has already been seen"....I don't know if I dare.
  9. Hmm, I should get it for my brother. I am not sure he'd appreciate it though. I just asked him if he wanted to watch Gravity, and he said no.
  10. If anything, planes should be further along in the tech tree, much like here on earth. Space planes came after rockets - re-usability is difficult!
  11. I'll happily use timewarp to kill rotation that I didn't cause, such as a stationary station that just starts rotating. When doing transfer burns, ASAS will hold my heading. When docking, I use ASAS on and off to hold my heading, generally without RCS which I turn off while ASAS is on.
  12. This is exactly what I have learnt through multiple station builds. I love building fuel depots, and have slowly refined my design. My first station was massive, and lagged the game to death, and made it a nightmare to dock with. Now I have depots with the same fuel capacity, but are easy to dock with. My first station had RCS ports on each part that was docking and extra docking ports, plus pretty stuff to make it look good. I now dock orange fuel tanks with docking ports at each end, and nothing more.
  13. I once had Ike messing with my ships. I'd sent about 3 refueling ships to my fuel depot around Duna, and was aero capturing them one at a time. After the 3rd one captured, I sent it in to dock with the depot. After I finished, there was only 1 left. I was wondering where it went, and then I found it on a solar orbit, going surprisingly close to Eve, so I set up an Eve fuel depot.
  14. Waiting for windows is too much effort. I have to look it up somewhere, although I know when the Duna window is so I often wait for that one (then normally find I missed it by a few days). Otherwise I just go into a sun orbit, then mess around with the maneuver nodes to go the rest of the way. I do hope with all the science and stuff coming, there will be some new feature to tell us when the windows are.
  15. Jumping into the exhaust of a Mainsail engine as a method to get into a Munar orbit.
  16. Getting space planes into orbit. I seem to constantly mess up the ascent and run out of rocket fuel before getting an orbit.
  17. I have similar concerns to you. I already bought the game, but long time I am wondering how interesting it will be. I really hope at some point there is some random element added to the game to make it exciting to replay, such as randomly generated solar systems. Multiplayer will never happen. Career mode is coming soon, which will introduce more of a direction/goal in the game play, which will be very good. Having said all that, the price of the game is so low, you'll get your monies worth well before you get to every planet in the current solar system.
  18. I think the idea has some merit. You certainly haven't suggested adding aliens - unless you consider female Kerbals as aliens... There are already alien artifacts: monoliths, crashed ufos, stonehenge on vall, 3 things on Duna. Having additional easter eggs should be fine in my opinion since all the existing ones imply aliens, though we never see them. I'd like to see even the existing easter eggs be somehow part of career mode.
  19. True, but Eves gravity is higher than Venus', so I guess they balance out. I once attempted an Eve return, just before 0.20 came out. I got everything in place, almost ready to land, and then 0.20 came out, and I started a new save and scrapped everything. I'll get around to it again some day.
  20. They don't even have computers! If they did, they'd have autopilots.
  21. I've done the same thing with the nukes. I was doing a transfer burn to Duna and watching on the map screen, suddenly there is a bang and the Gs drop to 0. From now on, I just put the small tank on the bottom of them by default - problem solved.
  22. I saw some guy doing something with rover wheels one time. The thing had like 20 wheels all around. Apparently the wheel part of wheels have a pretty good impact tolerance. He managed to land something on the Mun using this method, although it took forever to come to a complete stop.
  23. I have the general forum set as my homeage. But seriously, no serious lurker will respond.....
  24. There already is a CTRL-Z function. It undoes what you did. I really want that science stuff. Sub assembly stuff will be good, but I can live without it if I get cool science stuff!
