Communications Hubs
Gargamel replied to Duck McFuddle's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
The point of connecting to the KSC or a manned vessel is so that a kerbal, somewhere, will be in control of the probe. If you have a manned station/vessel, and the probe can connect to the station, then the station can control the probe in exactly the way you are describing. But it must be manned. Given how 'trivial' setting up comm networks becomes with a little practice, this part you describe is pretty much useless. Not only is it pretty much made redundant by the ease of getting a commcloud in orbit around distant planets, but IMO, it's pretty immersion breaking. This is the equivalent of sending some super intelligent AI out into space by itself. -
Don't all claps become waves?

totm aug 2023 What funny/interesting thing happened in your life today?
Gargamel replied to Ultimate Steve's topic in The Lounge
Not putting up a tree this year. Too much of a hassle. When I was married and owned my home (The dissoultion of the former resulted in the loss of the latter), we had put the tree up in a corner of a room we barely used. It stayed up for 9 years. After each thanksgiving we'd shake it to get the dust and spiders out. @RealKerbal3x and @CyberBullyPolice, over the top trees are just a function of the room size vs the size of the tree. -
Is there/Can someone make a mod to add the infinity gauntlet
Gargamel replied to Xurkitree's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
Might find one here. -
You are best off asking in the MJ thread itself, and providing all the required logs that the authors of MJ require for support. But your first step should be to confirm that your version of MJ is appropriate for your version of KSP. But the landing AP is intended to lock out the controls so you can't mess it up.

Throttle Issues
Gargamel replied to ModernShogun's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, modded installs)
Which mod? There's quite a few of them out there. Also a full mod list will be required. We'll also need some pics or video of it happening to help diagnose it. Like what duck said, You need to be specific in what you are describing. When you hit shift, does the throttle indicator not move, or do the engines not react? -
Well, watch a lot of the tutorial videos out there. Even the older stuff from really outdated versions are still applicable today. The theory is the same. In addition, and some people will string me up for this suggestion, is I would install the MechJeb mod. Use it to maneuver your craft where you need, but more importantly, use it like an experienced pilot teaching you how certain things are done. Use it to set nodes, delete them, and then manually set them. Be able to understand what you are doing, and why.

Assimilating Mods Into Stock
Gargamel replied to ZooNamedGames's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
This is the thing. They have not implemented ideas or concepts that are unique to a mod. They are fixing holes in the gameplay that mods have been required to do for some time. If they were to create an all encompassing auto pilot feature, automatically recovering stages when they drop out of physics range in the atmosphere, or forcing orbital scanning to only cover the areas they have passed over, then that would be incorporating a mod. I thinks it's the difference between saying "You should be able to do this in KSP" while paying the game, and "I really wish I could do this in KSP" while not playing the game. -
587, which ties me for 5th place in the gap list, but.... oldest gaps take precedence, and if you already a place on the list, you lose the tie breaker to one who doesn't, hence why @cubinator beats out @YNM for fifth. @qzgy, @Chemp and @lapis round out the updated board. And from here on, all ties will be listed on the same line. But gaps of 10 and 12 will soon be wiped off the list, so I'm not redoing the stupid thing again already.

Do I need satellite relays around Minmus ?
Gargamel replied to psvialli's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I also like putting up a strong relay network (3 sats) in orbits as far out from minmus as possible. That way, I only need the 3 sats to cover the entire Kerbin SOI, instead of nine, if you only do low orbit clouds around Kerbin/Mun/Minmus. There might be some theoretical blindspots with this setup, but I have yet to encounter them. -
Impossible Parts Ideas
Gargamel replied to Xurkitree's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Then by that definition, it is not impossible, and should not be in this thread, and since it's not int this thread, it's not going to be done, and therefore, it is on a practical level, the same as impossible. -
First prime related smackdown has occurred! New rule! You can comment/discuss as you wish, as long as you include the the next prime in your post. Sorta like saying "over" on a walkie talkie. 433 EDIT: And apparently, I will add a new rule every time I post a prime lol. j/k EDIT2: New mini-game included. See OP for details. Edit3: @YNM and @cubinator, gaps have been scored.

Surprised nobody has mentioned this. Spacewalk to take samples from around the hole: https://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-46529422

MechJeb Not Working
Gargamel replied to Pork Belly Gamer's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, modded installs)
Best thing you can do is ask in the MJ thread. But as @sarbian says, No Logs, No Support. So before you ask, you'll want to read the OP in the MJ thread to figure out what you need to have when you ask. Screenshots and more details will help too, as your description is kind of vague. -
Doing a rescue mission is easy. Just launch a craft with sufficient dV to get there and back again, meet up with the stranded kerbal, and bring him home. Since you've landed (I assume), you can launch back into to orbit, and meet up with your rescue craft. This both simplifies the rescue mission, and reduces it's dV budget considerably. If you can build a craft to get to Duna and land, then you are easily quite capable of building one to perform the rescue operations. Take a look through the various forums and threads for ideas. But using somebody else's design, in a game where designing and building the craft is at least half the fun, you'd be doing a disservice to yourself.

Are you on a laptop with a touch pad? Sometimes I bump mine and it moves my cursor around.
-
Additional rule: If you are posting a prime, you must check the previous answer. This should be trivial, for at this point not many people know these off the top of their heads, and will have a list in front of them. Only correct/comment on incorrect ones. 271

When it starts happening, look up other forums that use the same software (it'll look/function the same), and others that use different. See if it does it on those too.

I'm pretty sure he's full of it... but after visiting my parents tonight, my dad and I were watching the Falcon heavy thing on The Nat Geo Channel. I was talking him through all the cool points, which he fully appreciated being an engineer. And then we talked about the SpaceX booster "fail" the other day. But then he was going on about a repurposed Saturn V Booster that was supposed to be the newest thing, and that they went to launch last week, started the engines, and then shutdown. Now We have too many launch threads to dig through them all, and googling "crazy dad Nasa story" isn't getting me anywhere. So any takers on a Heavy launch that was aborted after igniting the engines in the last few weeks?

197 I actually impressed we got this far. Bonus points will be awarded to the person who posts the first 4 and 5 digit primes. I will personally donate a copy of KSP to the person who posts the first 6 digit prime, If I'm still around here, as per the original rules.

totm aug 2023 What funny/interesting thing happened in your life today?
Gargamel replied to Ultimate Steve's topic in The Lounge
Sooooo..... State Police Trooper just dropped me off at my house. Went out on a first date with a girl. Went well. Had a few drinks. Driving home trooper pulls me over. Light over my license plate is out. He smells alcohol on me, which I freely admit to having a couple few drinks with dinner. He gives the field sobriety test. Can't see his finger without my glasses on, so I have trouble focusing on it. And then I stumbled when doing the walk cause I'm an uncoordinated fool. Places me under arrest for DUI. Cuffs and everything. Get to the barracks to do the breathalyzer. His attitude to me has changed the more realizes I am in no way intoxicated. Blow a .015. Limit is .08. He then realizes he really dropped the ball on this one, and says he wont give me a ticket since the impound fees will be a bit of their own (They had to tow the car). He then gives me a ride home. Gives me my stuff back, after handcuffing me again, this time in front, so I'm trying to hold onto my keys and phone at the same time. Got a great selfie in the back of the cop car, cuffs included.
