Custom Contracts in Career Mode
Gargamel replied to Ruarc88's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Ok, that's where you confused me. Actually, this might be a cool mod or feature. Somewhere in mission control, A really in depth mission planning screen, where you can set planned orbits, maneuver nodes, etc etc. You can then assign that mission plan to a vessel so that you can try to fly the mission as planned. As we used to say in the SCUBA world, "Plan your dive, dive your plan". -
Bad science in fiction Hall of Shame

What I love is that none of the glocks are glocks, but a glock is listed as an ak-47. -
I'd disagree with this, as the OP is stating why they don't like a mod. That reason might help us better suggest others. It wasn't a disparaging remark, just the reason they don't play with them. I've historically been a huge fan of the KW pack, but it might be a bit OP. The near future packs are real nice too. Great for building big things.

Two things, one your docking port on the ship does not seem to be centered. Probably not related to the issue, but is an affront to my OCD. Try re-rooting the rover. You should be able to do it in this screen, using the re-root tool. Just click the rover and then the port, there might be some issue with what the game thinks is the actual root.

Civillian sector contracts
Gargamel replied to horsebrackets's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
The GAP mod, and other's that are part of the contract configurator mod, are pretty much what you are looking for. -
Bad science in fiction Hall of Shame

That was the whole reason I picked it up, wanted to see a BSG alum show her stuff. I don't think I even got to see her on screen before I bailed. Never trust mass media: -
Realism in Stock KSP
Gargamel replied to VoidCosmos's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
The first part rules out the option of the second. People are cheap. If there's a way to do it for free, they will. Plus, look at the % of players that actually want to play with a realistic universe, and then those who would pay for it. That leaves a very small group of players left who are going to pay for such a DLC. Yes, it would be better off as a stock setting. Yes, a lot of the more vocal members of our forums would be some of the few who would pay for it. But, sadly, No, it is not a economically viable project for Squad. Note, I've used this argument on many of the DLC threads, but I will be gladly wrong on any of those occasions. -
Bad science in fiction Hall of Shame

Started watching 2036, Origin Unknown on netflix the other day. After about 25 "No, that's not how that works!" within the first 5 minutes, I shut it off. -
Stock heatshields can be jettisoned, so if you are asking for something different, you might have to be more specific.

I believe CKAN is technically version independent, up to a point, I believe a ways back they redid the file structure that changed how mods were stored, but that was back like in .20 or something. Could be hallucinating that though. The latest version of CKAN, found in the link above, should work with all versions.

Edit action groups in persistent file?
Gargamel replied to Srpadget's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
pinging @linuxgurugamer for clarification, but I would make a backup as mentioned first, then try. AGX should leave all the stock groups alone, aside from the editing. If you added a custom one outside of the stock 11 groups, I believe there is no way to access it without AGX. -
Have indications of CoT/CoM/CoL per stage
Gargamel replied to Stoney3K's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Well, for stacked rockets, you can just grab the lower stages and set them aside. Make your tweaks, and reassemble. I'm not a good enough shuttle builder to get into the finer details of the argument, but the single COM indicator works ok for me, you just have to line up your CoT to go through it. And I use smaller engines for orbital maneuvering anyways, so I line those CoT/COM and then add the tanks and line up the main engines. But also your CoM shifts a lot with a shuttle, so you need to account for that too, which we can already do just be emptying fuel tanks. My biggest concern with this is the complexity. I know mods have had issues telling the difference between stages on some complex designs. So with a CoM specific to a stage, in a fully built complex rocket, I can see some simple math errors really compounding an issue that might be near impossible to diagnose. Plus, I really don't see a need for this. You usually build your rocket by stage. Once a stage is completed, you move onto the next stage. I don't see the need to have an indicator specific to a stage I'm already done with.- 1 reply

Custom Contracts in Career Mode
Gargamel replied to Ruarc88's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
What's the reference point on the other ones? I don't see a dotted line around Kerbin... But this idea kinda defeats the general concept of a contract anyways. A contract is some outside agency requesting your KSP to perform a certain task. Once you have done this task, then they pay you. If you create a custom contract, who's requesting this work, and who's paying you? NASA didn't get paid to go to the moon, but they have been paid to launch commercial satellites into specific orbits for customers. -
Realism in Stock KSP
Gargamel replied to VoidCosmos's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Problem is.... mods. A DLC of this nature wouldn't sell well because most players wouldn't feel the need to buy it if the mechanic introduced was easily doable in a mod. They need to have the projected sales in place before they can even start working on a DLC. -
Bad science in fiction Hall of Shame
Gargamel replied to peadar1987's topic in Science & Spaceflight
There are working designs for a pistol from a 3d printer. not just hypothetical. They can only be fired a fwe times before repairs need to be made, but combining those with ceramics would make for a long lasting gun that would not be detected by a metal detector. But, as you said, an X ray machine should pick up the shape. -

But the rest of my logic applies, yes? I made a guess at the reason behind it, but the previous answers seemed way to specific for such a general question. -

It is possible to run production diesel engines on cooking oil, like the ones that fast food joints use daily, without any modification to the engine. It is better to make modifications, but they can run on straight vegetable oil. That's really scary, as with some light googling, it seems .4% of the US population are lawyers. I wonder though, that if in the story, they would all be lawyers, or just associated with the legal trade? But even then, I can't imagine more than a 10x increase (at the extreme) in the number of people who work in the law. That's just an absurdly high value. -
For Questions That Don't Merit Their Own Thread

I think we've gone too deep here with the answers. Computers do not think 0=1. To a computer 1=1, and 0=0. When you have a list of objects or things, say a list of values, the first element's index in that list is 0. If you have 15 elements in the list, the last elements index is 14, but there are still 15 items in the list. I believe it's a way to save memory space, back when memory was at a premium. If we have 8 items in a list, we can number them items 0-7, so when you list them in binary it will be 000, 001, 010, 011, 100, 101, 110, 111. But if we started at an index of 1 and go up to 8, the last one would have to be 1000, and we'd have a useless value of 0000. So by starting at 0, it is just more efficient to count items that way. So your List could be {Square, Orange, Cloud, Elephant, Circle, Hippo, Snake, Ball}, Then the item in index 0 is Square, index 4 is Circle, etc. It doesn't matter what the value of the actual item at index X is, that is just the computer's way of numbering the items in your list. So in your Example, your list contains {1,2,3}. The value of the item at index 0 is 1, and index 2 is 3. But that's just if you list the numbers within a list/array. The indexes do not represent what is actually in that location, the index should be thought of as an address within that list/array. The actual value of any number is it's actual value. A computer can count the value of 0. -

My solar panels don't work
Gargamel replied to Lelleck's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, modded installs)
When you right click the panel, it doesn't say broken does it? What mods are you using? I believe it's Kopernicus that has solar panel issues, but I might be wrong. -
Top 3 Rocket Launches/Missions of 2018
Gargamel replied to Nightside's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Yes, until we have the next crewed mission to the Moon or Mars, the FH is the greatest launch of the 21st century, so far, within the context of gathering public attention. A lot of us on here can make very valid arguments that other launches or missions were far more important for the year, but as a group, we fall within the .1% of science geeks. Ask a simple question about the shape of an engine bell on the shuttle, and it turns into a 12 page discussion on the history and development of the RS-25. Ask the general public, and they might say "It's a cone right?". So within the context of getting public interest in there, the FH takes the cake, with the SpaceShip 1 launch for the X prize up there too, and STS-135 launch. But those aren't this year. -
Thanks for the nominations! We'll see how long my fascination with this thread can last..... Point of order: If you are posting a pic, please include a plain text version of your number, in base 10. You can post other forms, Roman, Hex, Binary, what have you, as long as you include the base ten value, in clear, unambiguous text. And no posts without a prime, @GRS ! 1523
