Bad science in fiction Hall of Shame
Gargamel replied to peadar1987's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Oh, well there's that too.... so yeah, I'll agree on that. -
I started the "Primes" forum game the other day, and I was wondering if there was a simple way to keep score. I am not a web designer, I haven't done any real web design in 20+ years, so I'm asking for a little help. I'd like to see a widget made up that can count the times a person has posted in a thread. It will then list the top 5 posters in that thread. Something like a linkable picture that is updated every time it gets loaded. I could then add that pic to the OP of the thread, and each time it is viewed, it would list the top scores, without having to manually visit an outside site. It'd be really cool if this could be made so an OP could add this to any thread, so some of the threads that are possibly scored this way could also benefit from this.

Bad science in fiction Hall of Shame

You know.... I took the liberty of googling "hot female astronauts" (go ahead and yell at me for my chauvinism), but I will say, yes, some of them are. -
Physics Feature - Ground Effect
Gargamel replied to JMBuilder's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
This, and making changes to the physics engine over here, might have catastrophic effects over there. Side question though.... do hover craft really employ the ground effect? -
Oh, I love playing with my Arduino's! (That sounded way worse than intended) This should be a kit project! But I live out in the boonies, so I lose power and internet regularly, so bug testing that end of it would be tricky.

I've been trying to read those, and I think I gave up. Just wasn't a great read. A lot of the story arcs and background just didn't jibe right with me. It felt like a really good first draft of a book(s).

Not even sure what is going on here.... it's like a really stupid auction.... lol that said.... 15(+)

We, as a forum, need to list the primes, in order. Skipping a prime or posting a non-prime will get you banned from this thread for 1 week (obvious joke). Incorrect primes will have to be correct by the next poster to continue. Only one prime per post, and you cannot post consecutively, there must be another post after yours before you can go again. I'm curious as to how high we can get. Answers can be checked by: http://www.math.com/students/calculators/source/prime-number.htm Cheat sheet: https://primes.utm.edu/lists/small/10000.txt If you are posting a prime, you must check the previous answer. This should be trivial, for at this point not many people know these off the top of their heads, and will have a list in front of them. You can comment/discuss as you wish, as long as you include the the next prime in your post. Sorta like saying "over" on a walkie talkie. Recent developments have shown that using a picture to represent your prime is a fun way to keep this going. The pic must include the actual number, clearly and concisely, without ambiguity. If you are posting a pic, please include a plain text version of your number, in base 10. You can post other forms, Roman, Hex, Binary, what have you, as long as you include the base ten value, in clear, unambiguous text. Amendment to pics rule: If the item in the picture is unambiguously representing the value of the prime (ie I used a pic of the 9-11 memorial to represent 911), then having the number explicitly stated in the pic is not needed. Also, since we are a space themed forum, pics showing specific galaxies (NGC's) are also allowed, as long as they are clearly identified with accompanying text. Award yourself bonus points if you can figure out or know the next one without looking it up. Edit Insert from later post: Bonus points will be awarded to the person who posts the first 4 and 5 digit primes. I will personally donate a copy of KSP1 or 2 to the person who posts the first 6 digit prime, If I'm still around here, as per the original rules. Forum based giveaways are not allowed per Private Division, sorry guys! I'll begin. 2 ------------------------------------------------------------------- Gap Game! As some of our players have found a passion for pointing out the gaps between primes, we will now keep a top 5 list of players who list the largest correct gaps between primes. You can only count a gap if you post the next prime on the higher end of the gap, and you identify the size of the gap. For this game, gaps are defined by P2-P1=Gap. Ping me with an @Gargamel if you make the scoreboard. To start, only gaps of 10 or more will be scored. A gap that ties one on the scoreboard already will get your name added to that spot. Rank Player Gap 1 Benjamin Kerman 34 2 GRS, Green Baron 28 3 Ozymandias_The_Goat, Chemp 26 4 GRS, Green Baron 24 5 qzgy, GRS, Green Baron, Gargamel, Souptime, Kerminator K-100 22 Updated: Whenever the last edited thing says.

If I ignore a user, and they post something, is there any setting that will prevent me from displaying that post out of curiosity? I regret it each time.....
-
With steam, they will be under the SteamApps folder I believe.

Another reason for the lack of mod packs is the licensing. Some mods that would be central to certain types of packs are released under a restrictive license that prevents them from being including in other distributions. The amount of work to assemble a legal mod pack would be quite a lot, and then you might even have to ask some modders to change their license.

Bug - Mission Review
Gargamel replied to Joker0720's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
It looks like you have the crew tab selected, I think. Was there crew on the vessel? Click on the parts or science tab to see what is listed under there. Post screen shots of each. You seem to be getting credit for science recovered though.- 1 reply

Somebody smarter than I will correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe the game would assign you a contract for a part that doesn't exist. Check the parts folder and see if it's there. Then check your output_log (eh eh @Kerbal101?) and see if that part is throwing any errors while trying to load. If you can't find it, post the log as indicated in that sticky I linked, and we'll take a look. But also, double, triple check, the VAB/SPH for the part. Even if you haven't researched a part yet, a test contract should enable that part until the contract has been completed.

For Questions That Don't Merit Their Own Thread
Gargamel replied to Skyler4856's topic in Science & Spaceflight
ARS and I have had discussions around a scenario set abouts WWII/Korea Tech levels. For technology then, the futuristic nucs are the only way to do this. -
For Questions That Don't Merit Their Own Thread
Gargamel replied to Skyler4856's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Hehehehehee. Well.... Yeah, it's been said, ice is noisy, really noisy. Drilling through it would be your best bet. But the sub would probably hear the drill and skedaddle. But as to your scenario, @ARS, only Nuclear boats can travel under the ice for any length of time. Diesel/Electrics don't have the submerged endurance to pull off such a stunt. -

I usually pronounce it Korolev, like the cat. -
Which comes full circle, as some Whipple designs do use Kevlar.

Contracts fail when going to VAB
Gargamel replied to GraczNet's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
I see no reason given for the contract failure, aside from what is listed in the screenshot. I also see other contract failures listed before you enter the VAB, or re-enter as it seems it happened a few times. If this is a steam install, I'd try verifying your files, there might be something wonky there. To clean up the log, start up the game, accept the contract, and go to the VAB. If it doesn't fail, try again. If it does fail, upload that log without doing anything else in the game. That will minimize the amount of stuff we have to sort through. -
Depends on your tolerance for lag......

I know the most hated answer for this forum is.... 'there's a mod for that', but... I won't argue this isn't a good idea for stock, it is, but I don't see it happening. That much work is into the DLC territory, and they won't make a DLC that is easily reproducible with mods, as it would kill the sales. You can set this up now, with careful application of mods.

Or after version 1.5 after a long alpha/beta program.....
