More science experiments
Gargamel replied to Cheif Operations Director's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Stock doesn't need any more science experiments. It needs more things to do, similar to science experiments. But to fill that void, there are tons of mods out there that add more things to do. Rover Science is a good one, as there is an actual game play mechanic involved with gathering your science. -
Not to sound rude, but a point of order: Kerbal: Little green dude. Kerbin: Home planet of the Kerbals. Kerbol: The sun (unofficially). Carry on!

try the pusher method. Get a tug up there and push it, but don't dock with it, see if you can move it. Very cool design though.

Bad science in fiction Hall of Shame

I know 8 tracks made weirs noises, but I think that was the artists' fault, not the media. I don't recall CD players making weird noises, but I really didn't start messing with them until the early 90's. -
Yup. MechJeb is notorious for having conflicting controls activated. When it goes wonky on you, check all your settings.... In this case, turn off the ascent guidance!! As soon as you reach orbit, make sure that is disabled, not just the Q limiter. In fact, Limit Q is also found under utilities, and if you enable it under ascent guidance, it also is enabled under utilities. Anything enabled in utilities will still function even if the ascent guidance is turned off. Including things like throttle and acceleration limiters.

Okay, that's an issue. You might want to post that in the MJ thread, and post your logs there too. Sarbian, et al, would most likely be happy to help, but they're particular about having logs to work with, and I don't blame them. But, since it occurs under manual control too, the root of the problem is not with MJ. Unless of course, you have some feature of MJ enabled somewhere that is preventing the engines from firing, which can happen. Turn off the landing control, and try to fire the engines. If they're not working, click the MJ drop down tab. Any MJ features that are currently active would be highlighted in green, if there are any, click those and disable them if needed. My first reaction to this issue is, though, are you staging anything? If a throttle is non responsive, and you have control of the vessel, you might have disconnected the engines somehow. Or under a action group, disabled them. But if that isn't the case, then you probably have something in MJ preventing you from throttling up. Oh.... you have enough fuel right? And EC to control the craft? A pic might help so we can eliminate any design errors.

Bad science in fiction Hall of Shame
Gargamel replied to peadar1987's topic in Science & Spaceflight
That depends on the person, ranges stated for human hearing are just averages. I've read papers that show that younger people have a much higher range of hearing, a few thousand hz more. I know this because I could hear flourescent lights in the mall as a kid, but I can't anymore. Turns out, there are brands of lights that are specifically designed to emit an annoying whine, but only in the range that juveniles can typically hear. The idea is to prevent groups of kids loitering in malls and other such public places. I know I could tell when a dog whistle was being blown, while attempting to train my shepherd, we would both sit there and cringe. Might have been a bad whistle too though, but the wife couldn't hear it. So us old folks may not hear the components making a noise, some of our younger members can. -
Hmph... that's cool.

No more rover flipping
Gargamel replied to Cheif Operations Director's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
The CoG doesn't have to be actually low, it just has to be low in relation to the width of your footprint. So you really need to make the rover either wider, or shorter, or both. You can increase your ground clearance of needed, but to keep the same stability, you'll need to also make it wider. But slowing down is the easiest thing to do. Go fast till til you need to turn, then slow down. -

Bad science in fiction Hall of Shame

I agree, yet counter it with this argument: If we take this block to high enough an altitude above the sun, there should be a point where it can be released, where it will fall towards the sun, yet impact the Earth instead, with sufficient velocity to kill off everybody. Ignoring all other planets, what would this altitude be? If we include planets, so the falling can benefit from the oberth effect, now how high? You have 10 minutes class. -
How to obtain negative lift?
Gargamel replied to Apaseall's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Wait, time out yet again. Which wheels are you using? The really big ones? Those steer like a tank does, not like wheels do. So when you turn right with those wheels, all the wheels on the left go forward, and the wheels on the right either stop or go backward (I don't know which in this case). So when you are at speed, and you try to turn, you're going to spin out, regardless of how much downforce, or any other force you have. One set of wheels will not be turning in the same direction that they are traveling! A pic of your rover, as requested many posts ago, would probably clear up a lot of confusion. -
We very recently went through the motions of discussing this and working out a tag system for mods. It was met with a deafening roar of 'meh'.

Like heck they do. I've had 4 kindles and only got one freebie. The original kindle had a Stephen King novella about a possessed Kindle I think. In this case, ignoring the engines, they are the same thing, as you trade one for another. -

Wait.... so you want downforce for steering, but you want it by not going fast? -

Ok..... need more info. What's the message say? What do the logs say? Read this thread, and then reply: https://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/index.php?/topic/83212-how-to-get-support-read-first/ -
Tell a minor accomplishment you're disproportionately proud of.
Gargamel replied to FinalFan's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I think this is right on. Everything you do is a stepping stone to bigger and better things. And given how most of us are striving for efficiency in our flights, anything we do during a flight is probably mission critical in some form or another. We wouldn't do that little side task if wasn't necessary later on. The first time we do anything in this game, it's usually difficult to get it right, and we feel very proud of ourselves upon accomplishing it. But later on, that docking maneuver that you were stressing over, with practice, it becomes second nature. Everything we succeed at is worth being proud of, and none of them are minor at the time, but only in hindsight. -
I believe .17 was a paid version though, so there really isn't a legit way to obtain it.
