The mod "MemGraph" seems to help with the ticks for me. There are only a couple few threads that get heated like this. And the vitriol is usually kept within the threads, thanks to the mods and the majority of the forum members not being evil. Nothing you posted should have upset anybody enough to be mean. edit: Hmmmm.... had to self censor that word.

Kraken's decoupler.
Gargamel replied to Xd the great's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, modded installs)
Breaks or exploded? Breaks apart might mean a design issue. Kraken attacks are rarely non violent. Usually at least a couple pieces approach luminal velocities. -
Need help in solving a crash

Did you confirm the mods were of the proper version for 1.2? -
Unable to install mod
Gargamel replied to Boersgard's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, modded installs)
Well, I would hazard a guess that no other mod uses the M2X prefix in it's craft files, so I'm going to assume you have already installed the mod and don't realize it, or you improperly uninstalled it. Just removing the M2X folder from the gamedata should do it, then reinstall it. -
Probably done this a few times, but back up 30-40 m or so, and try again. Sometimes the coupling action needs to reset...

So, you have a plane on a conveyor belt...
Gargamel replied to Randazzo's topic in Science & Spaceflight
That's kinda the point of the entire thread..... -
/facepalm I watched a good chunk of this hoping it was a joke, poking fun at the already huge thread we have on this...

Have we officialy heard that 1.4.4+ is in the works? 1.4 was released to make the DLC work, and upto 1.4.3 as bug fixes. From what I can see, there aren't many, if any, bugs that require a immediate fix. I would suspect to see 1.5 before 1.4.5. There might be a 1.4.4 further down the road, as they do work out some minor bugs and that it can be released on it's own, but I don't see any major work being done with 1.4x in mind.

Ahhh ya beat me to it.... Which includes a time autolock and password protecting the login. BUt just in case, run a virus scan with current libraries.

Not even W10. Any OS. One they find a stable setup between the OS and the custom software they are running, there is little reason to change it. That was the cause of the Y2K problem. Initially, the computer systems were only designed to run for so long before intending to be replaced. But the users had no incentive to upgrade, since it was working, there is no reason to fix it. The programmers, either through lack of foresight or engineered opulescence, coded the year as only a 2 digit number (ie 89 for 1989). These legacy programs were still around at the turn of the century, and when they realized all the errors that were going to occur, there was a huge rush to get it fixed. My college roommate and fraternity brother graduated in '98, and he made a mint fixing old COBOL systems, as the company he worked for charged a premium to customers who had waited too long and were now under a crunch to get things fixed. If you take a look at older industrial machines, a lot of them are still running on 70s and 80s computer software. If there is no reason to update it, for example some of my CNC lathes don't need to know the date, then why spend the cost of redesigning it? This applies to the manufacturer of the machine, and the user.

How do you come up with ideas for names of missions?
Gargamel replied to Gyrothesia's topic in KSP1 Discussion
You aint kidding. But there is something to be said about clear and concise labeling. And what is to be said is that it is boring. When I'm stumped I just use this: Spaceship name generator -
how can I make a shipwreck?
Gargamel replied to EndTraveler's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Well, that link doesn't work, which is oddly fitting. But you asked for a martianesque shipwreck. In the Martian, the only thing that was wrong with his base was the antenna was broken off. And his ship was gone, but it was working just fine. In the book, IIRC, both rovers initially worked just fine. The movie irked me by having a wrecked rover without explaining how. KSP is a game about trying not to make shipwrecks. Not sure how hard it would be to make one. -
That's not why they don't use it. A lot of the CNC machines I work on use DOS or win XP for the same exact reason. If it works, don't fix it. Imagine how many computers the military has. Now they have to own a license for each one of those for the OS. If they upgraded the OS's every few years when something shiny drops, the costs would be insane.

Be a fulcrum of pointless argument. -
If (Cost of New meter < (Time x How much you value your time) + materials used) Return "Waste of Time" Else Return "Carry On!"

how can I make a shipwreck?

Step 1) Land on Duna Step 2) Jettison your only fuel tank Step 3) Profit -
Nah, I'd probably think 7 out sold 10 is because they gave 10 away for free..... BSOD's are not just because of an OS, they can be caused by a combination of hardware and software conflicts. So buying a budget laptop, and then blaming the software for problems, is like having a Yugo and blaming the high octane gas for breakdowns. It's not just one thing.

A few?

Probably easiest to just browse the add on release forum and see what you like, spacedock would be another good place to just browse.

Capture Craft Needed.
Gargamel replied to Lego_Prodigy's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
What good is a docking mod if you are not docking? Docking requires 2 docking ports. -
Wouldn't Alt-F12, hack gravity, set to 2.5x be easier?

So, you have a plane on a conveyor belt...
Gargamel replied to Randazzo's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Be it a circle or a belt, a treadmill is a treadmill. The parts not in contact with the plane have no bearing on the plane or the question. While in contact with the treadmill, the wheels will by default be matching the speed of the treadmill. At startup in this case, the treadmill is going much faster than the plane is, so it has more of an 'effect' on the plane than the hypothetical one. This exhibit was part of the mythbusters traveling exhibit that toured around 3-4 years ago, seen at many science museums. I got to see it, and I flew the plane off the treadmill. EDIT: I googled the image trying to find the article it came from, and I found it: http://www.nwitimes.com/niche/shore/shore-newsletter-article/mythbusters-exhibit-comes-to-chicago/article_98ae270c-917f-5d21-999f-4a6d1cae7630.html But the funny part is, google image search returns it's best guess as air hockey. When you look at the photo, you can see how it made that guess. EDIT2: Found a video of it: You can see that there is also a slot car on the treadmill, and it is affected by the treadmill.
