How do I build a Space shuttle
Gargamel replied to TurboBilder's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Then try to build one. What's the worst that can happen? ;D -
Reaching orbit, Mechjeb vs IRL
Gargamel replied to Fadly's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Even with MJ, with high mass, "low" TWR second stages, I've had ascents that are nearly continuous burns. They weren't intentionally designed to do that, it's just the way the ship flew. -
A fresh install, no older files lingering from previous versions, and (usually) no mods. But given the age of MJ and KAC, and what they actually do, I doubt they had any influence on the bases. Did you upgrade from 1.4.2, or is this a clean 1.4.3? I don't have a link for it, but there is a mod that prevents landed craft from being flung into the air upon loading. This may or may not help, as I suspect it is not the same root cause, but it might help save the bases.

Should do very nicely,TYVM.

@HebaruSan's suggestion is not a KER redux, but an incorporation of the rocket equation into the game. It forces you to do the math still, but gives you the tools in the VAB to do so. @OrionPl, or anybody else wanting to take the reigns on this: I surf the web and do other things while playing KSP. I use MJ to automate a lot of the drudgery of playing, in particular docking. I would like an Audio cue that the ship has completed the Docking procedure. Or even when the magnets get enabled immediately before docking, something easy to get a trigger from the API's. Something in the "chatterer' vein if possible; Some garbled Kerbal speak. The music usually doesn't change when docking is complete, so I forget to tab back sometimes.

Vessel with way too much delta V?
Gargamel replied to Serenity's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I like to be in the middle of these two thoughts. I like to meet my mission requirements, and have a little extra to go around if needed. If extra Dv is carried, and it doesn't have severe consequences on other parts of the mission (including cost), I'm ok with that. -
How do I build a Space shuttle
Gargamel replied to TurboBilder's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I gotta say BOOOO! to this. That's the spirit! BUT... as mentioned, shuttles are very hard to get right. I've done it, and got it to work (most of the time). But I have no interest in doing it again. But being a new player (Assuming so from post count of 1, but I may be wrong), there are a lot of other fundamentals in spacecraft design you should work on first. Once you feel you can build anything and get it to space, then attempt a shuttle. -
The mod BD armory (I dunno what the current version is) will have the parts you want. Check around the forums, in particular the release thread for BDA and the KSP space craft forum for ideas.

And we poke the big bears enough as it is....... (as opposed to the "regular" bears)

Rocket Poster (NOW TAKING REQUESTS)

Being a wood worker, I'd go with an Apollo CSM bed..... Like a tent, but cooler. -
This forum engine has the ability to add other reactions other than a "like" to a post. Other forums I frequent have included things like "Thanks" "LOL" or "Surprise". I'm happy with just a like.

Title says 1.4.3. Is that a typo or are you from the future?

This. Redo your mod set, and it's basically a new game.

My first (edit: not a real) Kraken, wondering how bad it was
Gargamel replied to FinalFan's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I had to vote for the last one, just cause I yelled at a kid to get off my lawn today, not because it was actually like that. -

KSP Future DLC Ideas
Gargamel replied to Dedpewlio's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Oh very true. In the years I've been playing, I've seen quite a few mods get incorporated into stock. But that's stock, not a DLC. And even then, the mod makers often refuse to give up their ship and continue to work on the mod. The sales won't be enough to pay for the development of a DLC that already exists as a mod, and to continue to fund Squad overall. Squad (and hopefully with our help) has to find mechanics not available already that encourages people to purchase the DLC. I'm all for incorporating planet packs and a variety of mods into the stock game, or even as a DLC. But if Squad can't justify the development costs based on projected sales, then it won't happen. -
Well, at the top of this very sub forum lies: https://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/index.php?/forum/50-tutorials/ A whole sub sub forum of tutorials. You'll have to dig a bit though, as it's not exactly an organized group. But I found in my game play, just building and trying. If it didn't work, I tried something else. Like learning the hard way back in earlier versions the heat management was bass-ackwards. Back then you had to attach your engine to the smallest tank you could, and then put a large tank on top of that, cause the large tanks would overheat the engine. Fun stuff like that. But as @Reactordrone mentioned, try the in game tutorials. Once you hit a snag you can't R&D your way around, search the forums, you won't have been the first to ask that question, I guarantee it. Don't try to learn everything through tutorials, only search out the answers when you can't figure out how to do what you want to do, like rendezvous, docking, or landing. Don't constrain yourself to another's style, find your own, then modify it to make it better as you learn more from others.

I thought the same thing! welcome aboard sir!

That's what I thought! Coulda sworn I'd seen it written like that in game before... And the other day I got to talking about Lunar eclipses with some co workers. Except I kept calling them Munar eclipses. 20 minutes goes by before one of the confusedly asks why I was calling it munar instead of lunar. That's a tough one to explain, when my knowledge of them should imply I know what they are called....

Bad science in fiction Hall of Shame
Gargamel replied to peadar1987's topic in Science & Spaceflight
A lot of niche items are used for props all over the place. Starship troopers uses Therm a rest sleeping pads to line the walls of the training grounds. Lukes lightsaber in A New Hope was made from a camera flash bulb. Daleks have a friggin plunger on them. I remember an episode of Star Trek TNG that used a black and dekc cordless drill as a phaser. And what about the guy wearing it? -
KSP Future DLC Ideas
Gargamel replied to Dedpewlio's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I have a couple mod packs with animated landing struts / base legs. I commend you for that, but you are in the vast minority I would think. I think the majority of DLC sales were from the fact that KSP finally had DLC, with parts and a new game mode. The next DLC is going to have to be pretty stupendous. -
Ehhhhhhhh...... That's real stretch on them rhymes there... lol

MechJeb will also do DV, and you don't have to use any of the other features if you choose not to.
