What I hate is when I make a series of planes or rockets trying to work out a design. I end up over the course of a week or so naming them different things. Cool stylish names, like "Gull". Then 4 months later after I take a break from KSP, I have no idea what plane can do what exactly. So instead of booting up a premade design I have to fufill a contract, I end up re-testing each design, not liking any of them, and starting from scratch. The I started naming my craft things like MAV (Munar ascent vehicle, for shuttling between Kerbin and the Muns) or SRV (Space rescue vehicle), and then I end up with all these acronyms I can't remember they mean, so I have to go through the whole process again.

I think you might need to explain that a little, as this game is basically flying legos as it is... KIS/KAS will allow you to do EVA construction of ships already in flight (orbit, landed, etc).

I've been using the ummmm.... StageRecovery mod for a while now. Really kinda enjoy it. All the benefits of recovering stages, but without all the hassle.

What is your most facepalm-worthy moment regarding KSP?

K, just to top that off.... I made it there, looked around for a bit, planted a flag... and promptly drove over it.... -
What is your most facepalm-worthy moment regarding KSP?

Picking up some exploration contracts on Kerbin tonight, the only 'precision' atmo landings I can do are to the KSC, I have a variety of navigation markers setup that give me a good flight profile to the KSC. SO trying to reach Baikinour... Bakealite.... Old KSC... I drop in 80km short of the target. Oh well, new craft, first try, to be expected. And luckily I planned for this as it's a rover. Set MJ's rover auto pilot, and then went to make dinner. Come back, wiggle the mouse, KSP pops up, I'm about 75% of the way there. And then it crashed. -.- I was sitting down to stop the rover and quick save, so things like this could be mitigated. Roving again now...... -
About the same length of time since the OP.....

I'm impressed at the memory @DAL59.

Yup, same here. '13 though. Bought v .18 immediately and this is pretty much what I had the first week or so:

Has anyone ever built a train?
Gargamel replied to Zosma Procyon's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
I've been playing for a long time, but only briefly in career mode, but in my limited experience with contracts, most of these I have encountered have required components to by built new after the acceptance of the contract. Having the extra parts laying around is nice, but it hasn't helped me with contracts before. -
Bigger landing legs
Gargamel replied to mikey117's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I really don't see there being a limit to how much legs could hold, it's more of a question of how heavy they themselves would be to hold a given weight. For the sake of argument, the Bagger 293 is the worlds heaviest vehicle at 14,200 tons. Meaning, there are 'legs' that can hold that much weight. It's seems to be the bigger issue is getting that mass to fly, and land gently enough to not break the legs. And given the fact that the leg mass would have to scale up faster (educated guess) than the mass of a vehicle, your point of a fixed base then comes into play. At some point, legs would be less efficient than a structural base to support the vehicle. The goal of legs is to 1) Raise the vehicle off the surface to protect components, usually engines; and 2) Spread out the foot print of the vehicle to keep the COM more within the footprint, making it more stable on the surface. At some point, legs would become unnecessary, the structure itself would have a large enough footprint to maintain stability. I would like to see some stock folding legs for the bigger sized diameters though. -
Getting a rover onto Minmus?

Well, for starters, you're assigning quotes to people who did't say that.... -
Having not seen these parts packs before, I'm looking forward to the DLC. Being a Clevelander myself, I should really get out there for Yuri's night....

Completely OT, but that reminds me of a quote attributed to Daniel Boone: "I was never lost, but I was mighty confused for a few months".

Yes, easily with a Kraken drive, or unlimited fuel cheat enabled. I've done both, Kraken by accident, cheating not by accident. KSP doesn't model relativistic effects, so theoretically it's possible. Enough fuel and you can reach any speed you want. Practical, no.

Thank you sir! I missed that in the manual. I have no idea why that didn't occur to me... my bad.

Getting a rover onto Minmus?

Very good point! A hopper may your best bet. The only rovers I've used on minmus have been multi ton tanker trucks for ore, and they took a while to stop too. -
Getting a rover onto Minmus?
Gargamel replied to strider3's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Move the panels so you can mount a couple Octogonal struts to the top, inline with the COM, plop a tiny separator or docking to it, and then attach that to to bottom of your lander. Do something similar to then mount it to the transfer stage of your rocket. Adjust as needed. That way it will be suspended beneath the lander, and gently plop down upon release. Make sure the lander legs are tall enough to allow for the rover, you want to land on the legs, not the rover. Or take a look at the skycrane premade rover, and do something similar, and land it near your lander. And since it's minmus, you can lose the ladders, the kerbals can easily jump over the rover, and probably the lander too. Save on the part count and FPS. -
What time is the TMI burn supposed to happen? (EST please)

The key to doing a gravity turn is to throw yourself at the ground, and miss. (Sorry, SpaceX and the HGTG onboard has me all goofy tonight!)
-
Boooooooo! But understandable. But I hope the cameras last long enough so that Earth is eventually too small to really make out, after that, Unless they get a close flyby of mars by accident, they won't show much but the car.
-
There might already be a mod for this, but if not, somebody needs to make a Tesla roadster, in that custom color, with a command seat in it, so we can recreate those beautiful images SpaceX is beaming back to us right now.
-
Yeah, but the dang thing is full of batteries right? If they can go 200 miles at high amp draw, they should be able to go quite a while with just some web cams drawing power....
-
OMG, they switched to the view of the engine bell.... That's the death star I said out loud! Oh that's an easy one... they'll just say it's CGI. I have a hard time believing it's not, the images are so surreal.

That's the tea boiling off.....

Some official word would be nice...
