As someone who got into PC gaming through the Total War series I can say it does feel slightly broken right now. I've had 2 attempts at playing and yeah, the AI is a bit dumb and there are a few slightly annoying bugs but most importantly is both games I've started have been ruined by a bug. First game I had my one big army on a boat and the boat glitched out and couldn't move anywhere or disembark the troops. Game ruined. Second game I got a bug where I couldn't move the camera on the campaign map...horrible to try and play like that. Game ruined. It was at this point I decided to wait for a patch or two before another attempt. It actually runs nicely on my sub par machine, even on high settings, so not a problem for me there. I decided the curse of the early release has struck and I'm waiting for a patch or two before committing any more time to it. At it's core it seems like a nice addition to the Total War family, it just needs a little fixing. Basically happy to have bought it, but unhappy it's not finished yet. I can wait though, there's always Dota, TF2 and KSP to keep me busy after all.

Ideas and tips for a Joolian tour craft

Right then, after a minor hiatus when I deleted my entire steam folder trying to install Total War Rome 2, (slightly broken game, not worth playing yet imho), and then finding the game crashing every second or third launch and putting me off playing, I am back trying to fulfill this mission objective of mine. I honestly think I may have bitten off more than I can chew here, but I shall not be deterred. At least I worked out why it was crashing all the time, (bad mod install, damn you engineer redux!), and fixed it so I can play without having to reload the game every 5 minutes...YAY. So I thought maybe a double lander transporter thing might be useful. I shall need some other design for Laythe and Vall I feel as I doubt they'll be much good in highish gravity, but it's a start. The rovers I made for them are really nice, they can drive up steep slopes easily and had some fun at the KSC riding round those humps like a wheel of death motorbike! They can also pull doughnuts they're so stable. So this is the base for the mission I think, I'll need a second launch to get the Laythe and Vall landings, so maybe I also need to assemble a station around Jool...yeah, this is some challenge for a noob like me, but I'm not going to give up. Trying to think my way through all this is an awesome challenge. I'll keep you updated...not that anyone cares, but it gives me something to do in work when I'm bored. -
Infinite or finite, lifeforms or just rocks and gas and dust the question can still be asked. Is there a reason for this vast expanse to exist or is it just a random collision between a couple of 'branes? Even then, why do the 'branes exist? Who or what process created them? Ad infinitum I suppose. I realise there is lots of modern physics which is counter intuitive but this vast universe happened, of that there is little doubt, happened a long long time ago and will continue happening for vast orders of magnitude more. Seems like a lot of stuff for no reason. I'll take an accident as a reason, but with what and by whom? The sun exists because gravity and hydrogen The sun shines because fusion. The sun rises because rotation The sun dies because iron The earth dies because expansion from sun The universe exists because....

Articulated Rover Assembly (Compact Rover Delivery)

I've found the black wheels to be a better bet for stability and wear and tear. Here's some screenies of what I've done, hope they help...a bit...mebbe Parachuted into Laythe. That last one gets to 24 m/s ish, sometimes 25 and up to 30 downhill. Starts to get a little bit unstable over 25 though. Turns like a boss. -
I really don't see the problem with more cameras. As stated no-one is going to watch the footage without reason. You get murdered, the footage is there and the bad guys get caught. Great. You murder someone, the footage is there and you get caught, great. Nothing of note happens and....guess what, nobody watches the footage and nothing else happens. I find it strange that you feel that being caught on camera means there's someone watching the feed or tape later, they wont be unless anything gives a reason to do so. As mentioned before, you're neither that interesting or important for anyone to give two turds. 99.98% of all recorded footage from cctv is NEVER even seen by a human eyeball. Also, 75% of statistics are made up on the spot etc.

The learning is a massive part of the fun, and yes, you have a LOT of it to do. But of course the beauty of this sandbox game is you don't have to if you don't want to, just bang a few tanks and engines together and go fire them at stuff, it's still a whole load of fun watching what happens. Personally I've found the knowledge journey a huge part of the appeal, but them I'm a massive geek. The feelings of accomplishment you get for getting somewhere in a somewhat decent fashion are huge. Landing on the Mun for the first time was a great feeling. I was so proud, (as well as having a lot more respect for Armstrong et al!). Basically, this game is as deep as you want it to be. I mean seriously, have a watch of this and realise just how far you can go:

Best answer here is, *AHEM* "It'll be ready when it's bloody ready, alright!"

Engineer takes around 10 seconds to download and install, seriously. It also hasn't broken my game for a whole one update so far. You will like the engineer redux, it's great.

What scientific factoid did you learn about today?

I would never have thought Earth's gravity would affect things so much. Wow, this is the interesting factoid I learned today. -

Wow, nice one guys, I'll have a good read through all this when I get home from work. Thank you all. -
There was a race of intelligent, bipedal dinosaurs who were nomadic. They followd the great herds of roving plant eaters and hunted with spears and ropes made of vine leaves. They communicated and co-operated and lived in tents made from animal hide. They lived very much like the Mongols and so left no lasting trace of their existence. Oh wait, that was in Evolution by Stephen Baxter. My mistake. Seriously though. Best book.

Awesome. Thank you. That should make life a bit easier. So there is oxygen on Laythe. The thick plottens... -

Monkeh replied to Kerbin Dallas Multipass's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Well, it seems I am wrong and you, good sir, are correct: "Mercury is the second densest planet in our Solar System. It has a density of 5.427" "Earth is the densest planet in our Solar System. It has a density of 5.51 grams per cubic centimeter" From http://www.universetoday.com/36935/density-of-the-planets/ Seems very counter intuitive though. How does a ball of iron lie around being less dense that a ball of iron surrounded by rocks and water? This makes no sense. Mercury, why you so weird? -

Wait a minute. Mercury is almost pure iron isn't it? Surely that's denser than our rocky rock? -

Yeah. Cheers man. I was considering adding a couple of jets for the Laythe landing and take off. Do they work with Laythe's atmosphere? Anyway, it sems I won't be doing it any time soon as I managed to delete all my steam games late last night. All my sub assemblies. All my saved craft. All things. Got to start from scratch again. Head down. If you check my last screenshot on the link in my sig below you can see how the lander and returner were shaping up. I was qite happy with them as far as they went. Was gonna change the lander to nukes and add jets for Laythe. Back to then drawing board then spose. Using your ideas should help. Nice one. -
Early this morning whilst attempting to re install steam after problems downloading rome 2, I managed to delete all of my steam games. All of them. All saves and everything. All my sub assemblies. All my saved craft. All. THE PAIN. Does it ever go away?

Those nosecones look a lot like parachutes... doesn't want the empty boosters landing too hard. Sweet.

Everytime I think I'm going to take a break from ksp for a bit my damn mind comes up with another plan, idea or experiment I want to play around with. Then I'm back into it clickin' and a swearin' at the VAB. I would marry this game.

The sub assembly manager mod works pretty well. That's available right now. Its great.

Love: Building Testing Flying....things. Learning Exploring Roving Hate: Tricky construction. I want to take a collection of parts off, spin it around and add it again via another part of it, that would be lovely. Slightly boring planets and moons. More stuff to do once out there would be lovely. Missing maneuver nodes due to time warping a little bit too much. Auto stop on SOI change would be lovely.

I have been inspired by all the awesomeness around me on this forum to try to stretch myself a bit within KSP. So far I've made simple rockets that have got me to most of the celestial bodies. I have never given much thought to return or anything more complex. Last night I decided I wanted to do a tour of the Joolian system. I want to get to Jool and visit as many of it's moon's as I can before returning home. I started designing a lander and a 'return homer', which seem to have some potential and I can attach them to each other in a stack. They can dock with each other or the other part of the craft. I have no idea whether they have enough delta 'v' for what I want to do but it's a start. I was wondering if anyone who has done anything similar had any pointers or tips on how to achieve this tricky little task I have set for myself. I still need to design the interplanetary stage and the booster stage as well to get me into orbit. That part I should be able to manage I think, it's more the lander and orbiter that seems to be the tricky part. So yeah, any 'grandish' tour tips or pointers would be awesome. Thank you.

Can strongly recommend the engineer redux. So damn useful. It will do those calculations for you as you clip parts together in the VAB. Easy to install, (just as easy to uninstall as well of course), and easy to use. I mean, if I can do it then anyone can. No. Seriously. You can see it in use in flight in this screenshot Edit: A-ha, just noticed the delta v i have left in the rocket is matched exactly by my orbital velocity. Seems like a million to one shot there...or just great engineering by accident..or just a coincidence...gah. Universe, why you confuse me sooooooo........
